Hi, My Name is...59

It's time for animals gone wild! Crocodiles, alligators, dogs, all bringing the ruckus to the Philippines. Also people gone wild against animals.  Sad.

Hi, my name is Eric Saladaga Vista. I am mentally impaired. One day I went to Kabug Island Mangrove and Wetlands Park when I saw a crocodile in a cage. I thought it was a toy so I jumped inside the cage to play with it. That is when he bit me. Thankfully the owner reduced me before I was killed.

Investigation disclosed that 29-year-old Eric Saladaga Vista, a mentally impaired man, was roaming inside the Kabug Island Mangrove and Wetlands Park when his attention was caught by a crocodile inside a cage.

Thinking it was a toy, the victim jumped inside the cage and was attacked and bitten.

Vista was rescued by the crocodile owner, identified as Nanding Panogan, and was taken to the Dr. George T. Hofer Memorial Hospital in Ipil municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.

Hi, my name is Ariel. I was out in my rice field with my carabao when it became agitated and attacked me. It gored me to death. It had never been aggressive before. They said it might have been due to the heat.

A 31-year-old farmer was gored to death by his own carabao in Sitio Manpahong, Barangay Banogbanog, Isabela, Negros Occidental on Friday, April 4.

Police Master Sgt. Rocky Tonog, Isabela Municipal Police Station investigator, identified the victim as Ariel.

Tonog said Ariel was  tending to his carabao in rice field when the animal suddenly became aggressive.

Ariel was gored multiple times and sustained severe injuries. He was taken by relatives to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Tonog said the carabao had no history of violent behavior. “It was the first time that the carabao became aggressive,” he added.

He said that the carabao may have been agitated due to extreme heat.

Tonog said that Ariel's family is planning to sell the carabao after the incident.

Hi, my name is Marvin Arasa. I am, or was, a construction worker. One day I saw a cat. Of course I beat it to death. What else do you do to a cat?

https://web.archive.org/web/20250408123927/https://mb.com.ph/2025/4/8/construction-worker-arrested-for-hitting-cat-with-baton-in-tondo

Marvin Arasa, 31 was arrested for violating Republic Act (R.A.) 8485, the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, as amended by Republic Act 10631.

Police said the incident occurred along Malaya Street, Barangay 125, Tondo, Manila.

The suspect, a construction worker residing in the area, was apprehended after allegedly attacking a pet cat belonging to Gemma Escultura, a 26-year-old resident of the same barangay.

According to the witness, the suspect struck the cat with a cudgel for no apparent reason, causing severe injuries that ultimately led to the animal’s death.

Tirzah Lim, President of Humane Philippines, an animal welfare organization, filed the complaint.

Upon witnessing the gruesome act, the pet owner immediately sought assistance from officials of Barangay 125, which led to the suspect's arrest.

The authorities recovered the weapon used in the crime and brought the suspect to the station by 11:35 p.m. for further investigation.

The suspect was later transported to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center for a mandatory physical examination.

The Manila Police District (MPD) is preparing the necessary documentation for the R.A. 8485 complaint, which will be filed before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.

Hi, my name is Rex Arceo. I was out fishing when to my surprise three baby sharks appeared in my net. Of course I released them. I don't know if they survived but at least I set them free.

https://web.archive.org/web/20250409132339/https://mb.com.ph/2025/4/9/3-baby-sharks-caught-released-back-to-hagonoy-river

A fisherman in Bulacan got the biggest surprise of his life when instead of shrimps and fishes that he was expecting to catch on his net, three baby sharks were among the wiggling marine resources he considered his catch for the day.

But Rex Arceo said he released the baby sharks back into the Hagonoy River.

He just didn't know if the baby sharks survived because they were already weak when he released them back into the water.

When asked why he decided not to keep them, Arceo said he knew that it is prohibited to catch sharks and remove them from their habitat.

Animal expert Dr. Romulo Bernardo said the three sharks caught by Arceo are called Bull Sharks.

Bull sharks, he said, are often seen on the shallow side of the river where their mothers usually give birth.

He said the mother shark leaves her baby sharks on the river because there is less predator that can hurt them.

In a recent episode of "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," the story of fisherman Roldan de Jesus who also caught a baby bull shark was featured. De Jesus caught the shark from the Calumpit river and claimed that it was alive when caught but seemed to be getting weak.

He brought home the baby shark but the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), upon learning of the incident, went to his house and examined the baby shark.

BFAR explained that an adult bull shark can grow up to 11 feet and is known to be aggressive. Bull sharks are not known to hurt or kill when caught. They are included in the list of protected species or threatened species.

Hi, my name is Amado Soliman. I was out fishing for shrimp one morning. All of a sudden I was attacked by a crocodile. Thankfully I escaped by stabbing him with a knife. I ran to a near by house for help.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2051011/man-survives-crocodile-attack-in-palawan-town

A resident of Sofronio EspaƱola town in the southern part of Palawan was attacked on Tuesday dawn by a crocodile while catching shrimp in Tagumagas River.

The victim was identified by Labog village chief Isaac Arcona as Amado Soliman, 67 years old.

Arcona, in an interview, said Soliman came rushing to his house at 3:30 a.m. to seek help after he was attacked by the crocodile at around 1 a.m. in the part of the river in Barangay Labog.

Soliman suffered wounds on his left leg and back.

He said the victim told him that while catching shrimp in the waist-deep part of the river, a crocodile suddenly appeared, bit him in his leg, and dragged him to a deeper part of the river.

“He said he managed to fight back by stabbing the crocodile with his knife, after which, the crocodile let him go,” Arcona said.

Arcona then accompanied Soliman to the barangay health center where he was given first aid and later taken to EspaƱola District Hospital for additional treatment.

Because of the extent of his injury, however, Soliman was transferred to Leoncio General Hospital in Brooke’s Point town.

Arcona said there have been several sightings of crocodile in the river, prompting him to advise his constituents to be extra careful when going to the area.

He added that a resident survived a crocodile attack in another part of the river sometime in 2022.

Hi, my name is Samuel Contridas. I was out gathering firewood when all of a sudden my neighbors carabao gored me in the stomach with his horn. They tied it to a tree but it was so aggressive it broke free by cutting the rope with its horn. A 70-year-old man died after he was attacked and gored by a carabao on Friday afternoon, February 7, 2025 in Barangay Dapdap, Pilar town in Camotes Island.

Police identified the victim as Samuel Contridas, married and a resident of the said place.

According to Police Master Sergeant Julius Navarro, desk officer of Pilar Police Station, that the victim was gathering firewood in the mountainous part of the barangay on Friday morning when he was suddenly attacked by the carabao.

Navarro said that the victim was gored by the carabao with its horn piercing the old man’s stomach which caused his death.

The dead victim was later found by relatives at around 4:50 p.m.

Navarro said that the carabao, who was owned by the victim’s neighbor, was tied to a tree in the area when it suddenly became aggressive, but it broke free when the branch of the tree where it was tied was cut.

This was due to the carabao’s aggressive pulling of the rope causing the branch to break and be cut from the tree.

“Kining kabaw aggressive ba. Kalit lang gi-attack ang victim,” Navarro said.

(The carabao because aggressive. It suddenly attacked the victim.)

Currently, the body of the victim was brought to a funeral home.

The family of the victim already accepted the death of their kin and no longer would want to pursue any legal action against their neighbor.

However, the owner of the carabao, their neighbor, also promised to the family of the victim that he will help for the funeral expenses of the victim.

“Dawat ra man sa pamilya ang nahitabo sa biktima,” he added.

(The family had already accepted the death of the victim.)

The carabao was also returned to its owner.

Hi, my name is Jenelito Pontejon. One day my horse died and I blamed it on my neighbor Felix Abajo. I demanded he pay me P12,000. He maintained his innocence but he decided to pay me anyway to avoid trouble. He had only paid half the balance but claimed he would pay the rest in installments. One night as were walking to a billiard hall both stinking drunk I asked him again when he would pay the rest of my money. That's when he punched me. We got into a heck of a tussle. Then he pulled out his bolo and hacked me to death.

https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/602520/catmon-man-kills-neighbor-who-blamed-him-for-death-of-his-horse

The festive atmosphere in Brgy. Macaas, Catmon town in northern Cebu was disrupted by a hacking incident that happened Friday night, October 25.

While the residents were celebrating their town’s fiesta, a man was killed due to an argument over a horse’s death.

The victim, Jenelito Pontejon, 45, lost his life after he was hacked by his neighbor Felix Abajo, 56.

According to Abajo, Pontejon blamed him for the death of his horse in September and demanded compensation of P12,000.

While he insisted on his innocence, Abajo, a charcoal-maker, agreed to pay to avoid any trouble.

But so far, he only made a partial payment of P6, 000 when he was called to their barangay hall to settle Pontejon’s payment claims.  He promised to pay the balance in installments.

At around 7 p.m. on Friday, Pontejon, a farmer, again talked about the death of his horse and his demand for compensation as he was walking with Abajon on their way to a billiard hall, after they drunk liquor.

In an interview with CDN Digital, Abajon said he got fed up after Pontejon repeatedly asked if he had plans to pay the balance of his debt.

Out of anger, Abajo said that he punched Pontejon, who also fought back.

He then brought out his bolo and hacked his neighbor.  Although injured, Pontejon tried to run away, but Abajo chased after him.

When he caught up with Pontejon, Abajo hacked him at the back of his neck five times which caused his immediate death.

Abajo, who has previously been jailed for serious offenses in Mindanao and Cebu, has expressed regret for what he did.

While he said that he is prepared to face the consequences of his actions, Abajo said that he wanted to seek the forgiveness of Pontejon’s family.

As of this writing, Abajo remains detained at the custodial facility of the Catmon Municipal Police Station while the police prepare for the filing of a complaint for homicide against him.

Hi, my name is Dante. One evening my son brought his dog into the house and the blasted cur would not stop barking. So, I confronted my son and told him to make him stop. The quarrel got so heated I stabbed my son in the neck. At least he won't be barking anymore.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1692991/father-kills-son-in-cavite-over-dog-barks-police-say

The Police Region 4A reported that Remcar Citra and his father, Dante, had an altercation around 8 p.m. about the dog brought by the former into their house in Barangay Molino 6

Investigators said the father was annoyed by the disturbing bark of the dog and confronted his son.

A few minutes later, a family member found the body of Remcar.

In a phone interview, the desk officer at the Bacoor police station said the quarrel led the father to stab his son in his neck. The victim died on the spot.

Police were conducting further investigation, while a manhunt was launched to arrest the suspect.

Hi, my name is Puppy. One night I was minding my business when this drunk man attacked me. First he ran after me with his shoe, shouting all kinds of nonsense. Stupidly I fled into a corner which is where he grabbed me and threw me to the concrete. A bone in my leg cracked and if it doesn't heal I am very well lose it. They man has yet to turn himself in.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/topstories/metro/946309/puppy-could-lose-leg-after-being-attacked-by-drunk-man-in-pasig-city/story/

A puppy is in danger of losing one of its legs after it was brutally slammed to the ground by a drunk man in Barangay Santolan in Pasig City.

According to EJ Gomez’s report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, the suspect was caught on camera committing the abuse is a cousin of the dog’s owner.

Some witnesses said that the intoxicated suspect suddenly caused a commotion in their area. Before he attacked the puppy, the man reportedly struck the dog several times.

“Tapos po, sabi niya, ‘Ay nangangagat ka?!’ Bigla niya pong pinaghahabol po ng tsinelas, hinampas hampas niya po. Sinipa niya pa po yun e,” said “Riri”, the owner of “Kikiam”, the puppy.

(He also said, ‘So you’re biting me?!’ He ran after the puppy and hit it with a slipper. He also kicked it.)

A witness also recalled that the puppy was seen crying and visibly ailing, fled to a corner after it was attacked.

Footage showed the puppy crying in pain after it was hurled to the concrete floor.

Further, the suspect went after to the barangay hall to report that the puppy allegedly bit him. However, officials said they did not notice any animal bites on him.

(Initially, he reported the incident on the blotter and claimed that he was bitten by a dog. He was drunk when he went here.)

Kikiam was brought to a veterinarian who said the puppy suffered a bone fracture which could lead to amputation of one of its legs.

(If he fails to recover through medicines, his leg could be amputated due to a crack in the bone.)

The barangay summoned the suspect, a tricycle driver, but has since gone into hiding. Meanwhile, “Riri” will pursue filing charges against him.

On the other hand, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) slammed the incident.

(This is clearly an act of cruelty. This is what the Animal Welfare Act specifically prohibits.)

Violators of the Animal Welfare Act could be penalized with detention of up to two years if found guilty.

PAWS urged the suspect to immediately surrender to authorities.
