Insurgency: Holiday Truce

The CPP's anniversary is coming up and the AFP has warned they "might commit retaliatory attacks to mark the occasion."

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1240099

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday communist insurgents are no longer capable of conducting large-scale operations, even as they look to celebrate the 56th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Dec. 26.

"As they have been already weakened, and being weakened, they are no longer capable of staging major operations and also, meron na din po sila (they have) a leadership vacuum, and they are not capable of recruiting any more additional personnel into their ranks," AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

This comes as the New People's Army (NPA), the CPP's armed wing, might commit retaliatory attacks to mark the occasion.

She, however, said the AFP is ready to thwart these actions.

"Our commanders on the ground, we trust (that they) know the situations on the ground and they will be preparing accordingly," Padilla said.

She also said the AFP would continue with its internal security operations to finish the remaining communist insurgents in the country at the soonest possible time.

"From the start of the year, we started with seven weakened guerrilla fronts, ngayon (now) we're down to one and we're well within targets," Padilla said.

Could the AFP be any more contradictory? The AFP says the NPA is weakened, has a leadership vacuum, are unable to recruit, and are unable to carry out large scale attacks yet they are prepared to thwart such attacks. We have also seen that the NPA definitely still has leaders and is allegedly recruiting in Iloilo. Why all the contradictions?

In the past the AFP has held a Christmas truce with the CPP-NPA. The DND says they are not interested in such a truce this year.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/18/holiday-truce-with-communists

If it were only up to Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., the national government will have no truce with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), its armed wing, the National People’s Army (NPA), and political wing, National Democratic Front (NDF), this Christmas season.

In a statement Wednesday, Dec. 18, exactly a week before Christmas Day, Teodoro said that any truce that shall be made by the national government with the CPP-NDA-NDF “is a ceasefire against terrorists and criminals.”

“It is a last-ditch measure of a Jurassic group to find relevance in the national political ecosystem,” he stressed.

As of writing, the AFP’s Commander-in-Chief, President Marcos Jr., has not yet decided whether or not the government will declare a unilateral ceasefire with the Communist groups this holiday, as what has been the tradition in the previous years until the collapse of the peace talks between the two.

If the CPP-NPA is unable to carry out large scale attacks what's the point of a truce?

The AFP has killed another one of the non-existent NPA leaders calling his death a "big blow to the NPA."

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1240011

The Philippine Army is hopeful that the death of a notorious leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Samar will encourage remaining rebels to abandon the armed struggle.

Brig. Gen. Lenart Lelina, commander of the Army’s 801st Infantry Brigade, said the neutralization of Artemio Solayao alias Budil is a big blow to the NPA’s Eastern Visayas regional party committee (EVRPC).

Solayao was the leader of Squad 2, Yakal Platoon, of the NPA EVRPC with multiple warrants of arrest for the atrocities he committed against the government forces, including the ambush of members of the 14th Infantry Battalion in 2014 in Maypadandan, Catbalogan City.

He died during the firefight on Dec. 13 in upland Cawayan village in Catbalogan City, Samar that lasted about 15 minutes. Government troops also seized a .45 caliber pistol and documents containing high intelligence value.

“This Christmas season, we are hoping that NPA remnants will choose to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law. It is not yet too late, be with their family, the government will help them,” Lelina said.

The official said it is high time for the remaining rebels to surrender with the military’s continued focus operations that target the communist NPA’s leadership and logistical networks. This is part of their effort to end insurgency and ensure long-term peace and security in the region.

Why does the AFP think the death of this one guy will cause the remaining rebels in Samar to "abandon the armed struggle?"

Another important leader was captured in Northern Negros.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1239984

Troops of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) seized the hideout and captured a key leader of the dismantled New People’s Army-North Negros Front (NPA-NNF), following a clash in remote Barangay Bandila of Toboso, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

The arrested rebel, identified only as alias “Pinky,” is a cohort of Roger Fabillar alias “Arnel Tapang,” an NPA hitman facing a string of murder cases in northern Negros with a PHP1-million bounty on his head, according to the 79IB report.

“She was arrested during the pursuit operation after the encounter and is now in the custody of Toboso Municipal Police Station,” 1Lt. Dan Carlo Samoza, 79IB civil-military operations officer, said in an interview.

A report of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office on Sunday showed that alias “Pinky,” 58, was apprehended in Sitio Malig-on Saturday morning.

She has a warrant of arrest for attempted murder without bail, issued on Jan. 27, 2021 by the Regional Trial Court Branch 59 in neighboring San Carlos City.

On Friday afternoon, troops of 79IB tracked down the location of the NPA remnants in Sitio Tauma, based on the information provided by the locals, and engaged them in a 12-minute firefight.

No one died or was injured on the government side.

According to the 79IB report, soldiers found bloodstains from the encounter site towards the rebels’ withdrawal route.

After the encounter, they recovered various weapons, including a 5.56mm assault rifle, a caliber .38 revolver, a short magazine for AK47 assault rifle, two magazines for caliber .45 handgun and assorted live ammunition.

At the hideout, the NPA remnants left behind two backpacks, medical paraphernalia and medicines, food supplies, some personal items, and subversive documents.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, commander of 79IB, said the result of the encounter is “a testament to the unity, bravery and unwavering dedication exhibited by both the soldiers and the members of the community.”

“It is a clear manifestation of the relentless efforts of the ‘Masaligan’ troopers to hunt down every Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army personality and bring justice to the victims of  their  brutal  killing spree and atrocities,” he added.

Meanwhile in Northern Samar relentless ops vs the NPA have recovered numerous firearms.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1240081

The Philippine Army has recovered two firearms in its continuing military operations against remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Samar province.

Troops from the Army’s 20th Infantry Battalion seized the firearms on Monday after an encounter with six communist rebels from the sub-regional guerrilla unit, under the sub-regional committee of the NPA Eastern Visayas regional party committee (EVRPC), in the remote areas of Manering village in, Catubig, Northern Samar.

The 15-minute firefight resulted in the recovery of one Bushmaster M4 rifle, one M16 rifle, and various NPA war materiel and personal belongings. No one was hurt during the brief firefight.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lt. Col. Richard Villaflor, commander of the Army’s 20th Infantry Battalion lauded villagers for providing information about armed rebels near their communities.

“Our troops showcased their commitment to peace and security in Catubig town acting on information from concerned citizens. This success underscores the dedication of our troops and the vital role of community cooperation in fighting insurgency. We thank the public for their trust and timely support in securing our barangays. Let us remain united and vigilant in achieving lasting peace and development in Northern Samar,” Villaflor said.

The recovery of firearms is part of the continuing intensified fight against insurgents in Northern Samar after a major clash early this month.

On Dec. 2, seven rebels died in a fierce gun battle with a group of 30 NPA combatants hiding in a lair fortified with anti-personnel mines in upland Paco village in Las Navas.

In a follow-up operation on Dec. 5, two NPA members died in a clash in Barangay Victory in Las Navas and nearby Barangay Geparayan de Turag in Silvino Lobos.

In Cagayan the AFP have recovered 38 IEDs.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/20/npa-ie-ds-recovered-in-cagayan

The military recovered New People’s Army Improvised Explosive Devices in Sitio Tagkar, Barangay Isca, this town, on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The 95th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Vladimir Gracilla received information from concerned citizens that a cache of explosives owned by communist rebels were kept in the area.

Soldiers, with the assistance of the police, verified its location and found 38 Improvised Explosive Devices, four improvised blasting machines, five remote controllers, and a 50-meter-long wire.

Police have taken custody of the IEDs for proper disposition.

Who are these "concerned citizens" that knew the location of these IEDs? Former rebels? How would an ordinary citizen know where the NPA was storing its bombs?

Engaging the NPA in firefights isn't the only way to defeat them. Building roads and bridges works too.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/18/2-multi-million-infrastructure-projects-in-eastern-samar-to-boost-anti-insurgency-drive

The construction of two multi-million infrastructure projects, the P163-million Maslog and Jipapad Road (Phase 1) and the P30-million Panic-an Bridge in Maslog in Eastern Samar, is seen to boost the campaign against insurgency in the province.

The 2.4-kilometer Maslog and Jipapad Road (Phase 1) and the 22-meter Panic-an Bridge will connect barangays and municipalities, especially in vulnerable areas, to foster socio-economic development, especially
in conflict-affected areas.

The farm-to-market roads were funded under the Fiscal Year 2024 Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Program, which focuses on the transformation of former rebels (FRs), their families, and communities.

Brig. Gen. Lenart Lelina, commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, stressed the importance of farm-to-market roads, citing the adage, “Insurgency ends where road begins.”

“These two municipalities were formerly considered hotbeds of the insurgents in the province of Eastern Samar. But now, with these infrastructure projects, economic development will soon start to flourish,” he said.

Major Gen. Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of the 8th Infantry Division and the Joint Task Force Storm, thanked the government’s continued support in putting initiatives that are critical in defeating the New People's Army.

“Through these projects, the root causes of insurgency will be addressed. The delivery of basic government services and the socio-economic development will improve through these access roads,”  Orio said.

Now that these communities have proper infrastructure they will be able to get rich and the government will be able to deliver basic services. No need to be a communist anymore. It's time to pack it all in because the government built a road and a bridge.

Simply surrender and seek amnesty like 1,665 others.

https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/19/1-665-ex-rebels-seek-amnesty-opapru-1317

A total of 1,665 former rebels have applied for the amnesty offered by the government, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) said on Thursday.

Of these, 1,061 were former members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and their front organizations.

Another 344 were from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF); 241 from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF); and 19 from the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB).

At least 1,260 of the applicants are still under verification, while 331 are for conference, 33 for resolution, and only 41 have been resolved by the Local Amnesty Boards (LABs) and are up for review by the NAC.

(Some causes of the delay are incomplete submissions of application forms. Some of the applications we received were just the one-page application form, which we provided and is downloadable from our website or social media pages. What happens is that the LAB secretariat has to search for the necessary information to complete the applicant's documents, so that's where we experience delays.)

There are currently nine LABs across the country, and the NAC plans to establish 11 more in 2025.

The LABs serve as centers where rebels can avail themselves of amnesty, but only for political crimes or crimes committed in pursuit of political beliefs.

(What is important here is for the applicants to know that it will expedite the processing of the application if they submit a complete document in support of their application.)

The amnesty process requires proof of identity, of affiliation, and of the commission of a crime.

Former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF were granted amnesty by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. under Proclamation No. 404.

Members of the RPMP-RPA-ABB, MILF, and MNLF were granted amnesty under Proclamation Nos. 403, 405, and 406, respectively.

Under these proclamations, issued on November 23, 2023, members of these rebel groups have two years to apply for amnesty. Applications are filed with the LABs, which also handle the initial processing.

A lot of criminals will never face a true reckoning in this life.

Filipinos Prepare for Trump 2.0

Filipinos both in the Philippines and the USA are preparing for Trump's second term as President. His cornerstone proposal is to put a halt to illegal immigration and deport all illegal aliens currently living in the USA. Illegal Filipinos are being urged to self-deport.

The Philippines' ambassador to the United States has called on undocumented Filipino workers there to start the process of obtaining legal status before US President-elect Donald Trump assumes office next year.

With an estimated 250,000 to 300,000 undocumented Filipinos currently in the US, Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez advised them to immediately seek legal aid or face deportation, which could permanently bar them from re-entry.

Trump secured a return to the White House in a decisive electoral victory earlier this week after leading a campaign that promised "the largest deportation effort in American history."

On Friday, November 8, Trump told NBC News that his administration has "no choice" but to carry out that promise and that it will not have a price tag.

"My advice to many of our fellow men who actually are still here but cannot get any kind of status, my advice is for them not to wait to be deported," Romualdez said in a forum with international and local media on Friday.

The ambassador said it is likely that Trump will proceed with his plans of deporting illegal immigrants en masse. But this will "take a lot of resources," he added.

The increased exchange of information among American immigration authorities now makes it nearly impossible for undocumented individuals to remain undetected, Romualdez said.

He estimated that nine out of 10 "TNTs" (tago nang tago or always hiding) — a term coined for Filipinos abroad who are in hiding or overstaying — "will be discovered at some form or another." Different US departments from immigration to the transportation security administration (TSA) are now interconnected, he added.

"Plus, anybody can just simply send a picture of you or whoever it is to the [US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.] That's the one that goes after illegal immigrants, and then you have a problem," Romualdez said.

The Philippine ambassadors advice to self-deport comes with the caveat "if you cannot get any kind of status." Lucky for all those illegals the Pilipino Worker's Center is holding free legal clinics to educate illegal Filipino aliens of their rights. You see, they can't simply be deported.

https://usa.inquirer.net/160023/mass-deportation-help-hotline-free-legal-clinics-for-undocumented-filipinos

The Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) has announced initiatives to support undocumented Filipinos as Donald Trump’s return to the presidency sparks anxiety among immigrant communities.

“(Trump’s) return is causing a lot of anxiety, fear and stress among many in our communities,” said PWC Executive Director Aquilina Soriano Versoza during a virtual post-election town hall Friday night.

“We gather here to prepare to protect and stand strong for our communities, especially the immigrant families.”

PWC announced the launch of a rapid response hotline that undocumented Filipinos can call for deportation defense.

The center will also hold free legal clinics and “Immigration Know Your Rights” trainings, and launch new communications plans “to make sure that our community is able to have up-to-date information.”

Versoza has urged undocumented immigrants “not to panic and self-isolate” and to make sure they are “connected to reliable information.”

She reminded undocumented immigrants that “ICE can’t just deport you…there’s a legal process and that’s why it’s important to connect to legal support.”

Versoza also stressed that undocumented immigrants should not feel they need to voluntarily leave the United States to avoid deportation as “they have rights and don’t need to leave.”

She was reacting to the statement of Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez advising undocumented Filipinos to voluntarily leave the US instead of facing deportation.

“There are real economic reasons why (undocumented immigrants) are here,” she said. “They don’t have to self-deport. There are resources…and pathways to citizenship and we’re ready to support the immigrant community.”

PWC is preparing for their legal advisors “to be paired” with their 24/7 rapid response hotline, Versoza said.

Perla Santos, one of the more than 100 town hall participants, shared that “many of our kababayans are feeling downhearted” in the face of Trump’s mass deportation plan and the shifting immigration policies.

“We’re not liabilities. We are assets,” Santos said, bewailing Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric.

Looks like there is no need for illegal Filipino aliens to panic. The PWC has their back. All they have to do is reach out and grab that lifeline.

Trump's 2nd term is also being seen as bad for remittances. This would seem to be related to the mass deportations of illegal Filipino aliens but this article does not make that very clear.

https://business.inquirer.net/489317/trump-2-0-seen-bad-for-ph-remittances

Remittances to the Philippines and receipts from the business process outsourcing sector could take a hit from US President-elect Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies, while the possibility of diminished security support from Washington could stir up more tensions in the West Philippine Sea, said Japanese investment bank Nomura.

Those are the channels where the Philippines is most vulnerable after Trump won the race to the White House again following a divisive Nov. 5 election.

Zooming out, Nomura said in a commentary that Trump 2.0 will be negative for growth in Southeast Asia, albeit at varying degrees.

“The Philippines does not have a similar cushion and will be at risk from the impact on workers’ remittances from a possible tightening of US immigration policy and on the outsourcing sector,” Nomura said.

“Increased geopolitical tensions in the South China Sea due to the lack of US security support could put the Philippines on the front line. This could be an issue for the broader region, if China’s assertiveness in the disputed waters intensifies,” it added.

There are thousands if not millions of legal Filipinos in the USA working in every sector sending big bucks to the Philippines. What are they worried about exactly. Besides this just goes to show how fake much of the Philippine economy is as it relies so much on remittances.

Senator Escudero is urging the government to prepare for a Trump presidency.

https://globalnation.inquirer.net/255157/escudero-urges-ph-govt-prepare-for-trump-presidency

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Monday urged the national government to start preparing for potential policy shifts in the US with the looming fresh administration of  Donald Trump.

Escudero referred to Trump as a “major macroeconomic assumption” that the Philippines must be “one step ahead” because his moves as US president would impact not only Americans but also Filipinos.

He pointed out how Trump has always been transparent about his plans as US president, encouraging the Philippine government to assess his promises and see how they would affect the Philippines.

“From trade to security to immigration, what he said he plans to do, some on day one of his administration, would certainly impact us,” the Senate president stressed.

For one, Escudero pointed out Trump’s commitment to carry out mass deportation of illegal immigrants. The Senate leader noted there are 300,000 undocumented Filipinos in the US.

“How many of the estimated 300,000 vulnerable Filipinos will be in the first wave of expulsion?” Escudero asked.

According to the Senate president, even if the US deported only one percent of the 300,000, it would already require 10 big airplanes.

He also suggested that the national government think about how Trump plans to impose high tariff walls and how it would affect the Philippine economy, especially how almost $1 of every $7 in its economy comes from its trade with the US.

“If because of him the dollar will strengthen, what effect will it have on us if it causes the peso to weaken? The value of our foreign debt is sure to balloon,” Escudero said in mixed Filipino and English.

Escudero further urged the national government to revisit the US-Philippines relations, noting that the alliance was only boosted because of the Biden administration.

“On the security front, will a second Trump administration be hawkish or dovish against China?  We must be ready in case they have a new position in Washington,” he said.

“There is no reason for the Philippine government to be caught flatfooted and stand helpless as the ground beneath it caves in,” he added.

Escudero is out of his mind! He's thinking too much about all those illegal Filipino aliens that might be deported calling them "vulnerable." Is he going to stop the Philippines' deportation of illegal aliens who are here to work, most notably the Chinese? Of course not.

As for his questioning as to whether or not Trump will be hawkish or dovish against China, has he listened to a single thing Trump has said? US-Philippine relations weren't boosted becasue of Biden. They were great under Trump who was a good friend of Duterte. He even visited the Philippines in 2017 for the ASEAN meeting. EDCA was signed into law while Trump was President.

Ambassador Romualdez has a different take on Philppine-US relations under Trump.

https://www.reuters.com/world/philippines-confident-us-alliance-under-trump-amid-china-tensions-envoy-says-2024-11-07/

The Philippines expects U.S. policy in the Indo-Pacific and support for its treaty ally amid South China Sea tensions to remain steady under Donald Trump, driven by bipartisan resolve in Washington, its ambassador to the U.S. said on Thursday.

Both Democrats and Republicans prioritise countering China’s influence, including in the South China Sea, Jose Manuel Romualdez said, suggesting that military cooperation, economic ties and security commitments with the Philippines will continue.

"It is in their interest that the Indo-Pacific region remains free, peaceful and stable, especially given the economic part of it, with trillions of dollars passing through the South China Sea," Romualdez told Reuters in an interview.

U.S.-Philippine security engagements have deepened under President Joe Biden and Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Marcos Jr, with both leaders keen to counter what they see as China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea and near Taiwan.

Marcos said in a congratulatory message after Trump's victory: "I am hopeful that this unshakeable alliance, tested in war and peace, will be a force of good that will blaze a path of prosperity and amity, in the region, and in both sides of the Pacific."

Under Marcos, the Philippines has increased the number of its bases accessible to U.S. forces to nine from five, some facing the South China Sea, where China has built artificial islands equipped with runways and missile systems.

The U.S. has proposed $128 million for infrastructure improvements at those bases, in addition to a $500 million pledge for the Philippine military and coastguard.

Romualdez expressed confidence that these commitments, including joint U.S.-Philippine maritime exercises that began last year, would continue under Trump.

"We have very strong bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress where the money comes from. Every single one of our friends in the Republican side has signified their concern and strong support for whatever we're doing right now in relation to the challenges we face with China today," Romualdez said.

He suggested potential changes under Trump would be "minimal" and could even be favourable.

During Trump's previous term, the U.S. dispelled any doubts about its defence commitments when then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo assured Manila in 2019 that Washington would defend its ally if attacked in the South China Sea, reinforcing the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.
Beijing claims much of the South China Sea, where about $3 trillion in ship-borne trade passes annually, with the area becoming a flashpoint for Chinese and U.S. tensions around naval operations. There have been recent clashes over territorial claims between China and the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Romualdez emphasized Manila's intent to manage disputes peacefully, and "will continue to dialogue with China as long as it's not detrimental to our interests."

"We're not at war," Romualdez said, adding there are many areas where Philippines and China can work with.

How much more reasonable is Romualdez thats Escudero. It seems Chiz forgot he was a Senator during Trump's first term and everything was fine.

President Marcos has assured the nation PH-US relations will be normal under Trump. After all he did get the overwhelming support of the Filipinos-AM community.

https://globalnation.inquirer.net/255960/marcos-calls-to-congratulate-trump-cites-fil-am-votes-he-got

President Marcos said he had personally congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump in a “very friendly and productive” phone call on Tuesday morning, where he expressed his desire to see the Philippine-American alliance enduring under Trump’s second term.

Marcos said he reminded the incoming Republican president that Filipino Americans “overwhelmingly voted for him” and that “I’m sure he will remember that when we see each other.’’

“I expressed to him our continuing desire to strengthen that relationship between our two countries, which is a relationship that is as deep as can possibly be—because it has been for a very long time,” Mr. Marcos said.

“[I]t was a very good call; it was a very friendly call, very productive. And I am glad that I was able to do it, and I think President-elect Trump was also happy to hear from the Philippines.”

The conversation, he said, did not touch on Trump’s immigration policy, a key issue of his campaign that can potentially affect the Fil-Am community.

“We didn’t talk about that. It was just a congratulatory call,’’ he said when asked if the subject came up. “But, of course, our ambassador (to Washington, Jose Manuel Romualdez) is already working on that.”

“The overwhelming support of Filipinos in the United States on your triumphant win is a testament to the deep and enduring friendship between our nations.”

Democrats and liberals in the USA are losing their minds over Trump's election and Filipinos also seem to be losing their minds or are at least being cautious. But there is nothing to worry about. Philippine-US relations were great under Trump. Mass deportation of illegal Filipino aliens won't be so easy and there is legal help available for them. Remittances will likely not change because there are many legal Filipinos slaving away for their deadbeat families in the Philippines. It's very doubtful Trump 2.0 will change the status quo.

The God Culture: The Mystery of the Three Kings Book Review, Part 3: Magi is Maginoo

Having reviewed Timothy Jay Schwab's new book The Mystery of the Three Kings and shown that he has no idea what he is talking about and that the text of Revelation of the Magi contradicts him it is time to take a look at a few other things. In this article I will be reviewing Tim's claim the Greek word Magos is actually a Filipino word.

The Mystery of the Three Kings, pg. 68

The title of the chapter is Magi is not a Word From the Greek. Already we are in bad etymological territory as magi (magos) is certainly a Greek word which is found in the Bible. Case closed, right? No, because Tim does a little dance and makes a little mess which needs cleaning up.

Here is Tim's introduction to the matter.

One of the greatest revelations needed from Revelation of the Magi (RotM) is that the word Magi or Magos from the Wise Kings narrative does not originate in the Greek language. Greece is not East. The same could be said of Africa (which some scholars try to force), but for this to work, one must forget what direction both left and right are. Those are not theories. Yes, it is written in Greek in the New Testament (as the rest of the canonical books are), but is it Greek in origin? What if, instead, there was evidence that the word derives from its land and its language of nativity? It turns out, there is, thanks to this text. How many times have we all heard the Christmas sermon about how the Wise Men were not Kings? That is false, they were certainly Kings. 12 in all, there were more than three in number indeed, but three still has precedence, as you will find.

Then, even the highest of scholars takes us to the faulty assumption the Babylonian and/or Persian Magoi are injected by The Gospel of Matthew. They ignore that those Magoi were not even in power in the first century. They are still rebuked as satanic sorcerers in the same New Testament. One does not need to go to the Old Testament to learn how to read a word well defined in the New. They are changing the Bible when they do so, against its own interpretation itself.

They will make up fiction, supposing the sorcerers converted to the religion of Daniel. That is not ever a Bible account; it is poor assumption they cannot make. The fact that they have to manufacturer such a story to make their lie work should be evident. Certainly, Daniel was the head over the Biblical Wise Men, such as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, but sorcerers were his satanic enemy. For a theologian to assume such a thing is nonsense. Daniel never became head of the magicians. He was head of the Sophos; the Wise Men.

p. 69
What exactly does Tim think he is accomplishing here? Everyone familiar with the matter knows magi does not originate in Greek but is a Babylonian/Persian loanword. What Tim really means is magi isn't a Persian word not magi isn't a Greek word. He can't even get his claim right.

the name given by the Babylonians (Chaldeans), Medes, Persians, and others, to the wise men, teachers, priests, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreters of dreams, augers, soothsayers, sorcerers etc.
Look at that. Magos is a catch-all generic word which does not only mean sorcerer but can also mean teacher, physician, or wise men. Context matters. Matthew calls them Magos because they came from the East. They were Wise Men (Magos) from the East. If they had come from somewhere else then perhaps Matthew would not have used the word magos. In Acts magos is translated sorcerer because that's what those specific people were, men who used magic and sorcery.

Keep in mind the word is magos and this word is also in the Septuagint in Daniel. That means the word was known BEFORE the Magi came to visit the Child Jesus. Tim is going to say this is a Filipino word originating in the word Maginoo. How can this be when the word dates at least to the time of Herodotus?
This name has come to us through the Greeks as the proper designation of the priestly class among the Persians (Herod. 1:132, 140; Xenoph., Cyrop. 8:1, 23; Plato, Alcib. 1:122; Diog. Laert. Parouem. 1, 2; Cicero, De Divin. 1:41; Apul. Apol. 1p. 32 ed. Casaubon, p. 290 ed. Elmenhorst; Porphyr. De Abst. 1. 4.; Hesych. s.v. Μάγος).

Here is the citation from Herodotus which dates to 425 B.C.

When he has so arranged it, a Magus comes near and chants over it the song of the birth of the gods, as the Persian tradition relates it; for no sacrifice can be offered without a Magus.

 http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Hdt.%201.132&lang=original

Tim has a lot to say about Daniel to prove his thesis that the Magi in Matthew were not Persians. According to Tim Daniel was not placed in charge of the magicians but the Wise Men as the Greek word in the Septuagint is Sophos not Magos.

Certainly, Daniel was the head over the Biblical Wise Men, such as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, but sorcerers were his satanic enemy. For a theologian to assume such a thing is nonsense. Daniel never became head of the magicians. He was head of the Sophos; the Wise Men.

pg. 69

The reference to the Book of Daniel’s Wise Men of Daniel 5:8, for instance, is not Magos. Daniel uses the Hebrew word hakim, which is a general term for those considered to hold knowledge above the regular folk. Taking that generality and assuming it into Matthew’s Wise Men is illiterate. However, he rattles off others in a listing that separates them. The King’s Wise Men that are described in the Book of Daniel were not the Magi described in the Book of Matthew. Even the era is very disconnected, as those Magi had no part in the New Testament except as enemies. One who supposedly converted to the Biblical faith would no longer be called a sorcerer. They would have to leave that satanic paradigm.

The Wise Men described in the Book of Daniel, however, are not Magos in Greek. According to the Greek Septuagint translation, the word is sophos meaning wise; not even Magos. It would not matter, however, if it was the same word; it most certainly is not the same concept in the Book of MatthewIndeed, among those the King considered wise could definitely be sorcerers, however, they are still not called Magos by Daniel in the Greek Septuagint. They are still called sophos, instead, in Daniel 2:12, 13, 14, 18, 24, 27, and 48. Matthew’s Gospel repeats that in 23:34, using sophos as well; referring to prophets, wise men and scribes. Daniel does not even call them Magos. To equate that term solely based on a misunderstanding of a different word is not scholarship.

pg. 70

Tim is correct here in saying the King would consider sorcerers to be Wise Men. In Daniel sophos (wise men) is a catch-all term which includes enchanters, magicians, and soothsayers. Tim is wrong when he says Daniel was never head of the magicians.

Daniel 2:48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

Daniel 4:9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and nosecret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

In 2:48 Daniel is made ruler over all the wise men (Sophos) of Babylon and in 4:9 he is called master of the magicians (ἐπαοιδῶν). That is because Sophos is a catch-all term for enchanters, magicians, and soothsayers.

Daniel 5:11 further affirms the above two verses and says he was put in charge not of the Wise Men (Sophos) but of the magicians (magos) among others.

There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the Spirit of God; and in the days of thy father watchfulness and understanding were found in him; and king Nabuchodonosor thy father made him chief of the enchanters, magicians, Chaldeans, and soothsayers.

Here is the Greek with the relevant words highlighted.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lxx/dan/5/1/s_855001

The first word highlighted is archon which means chief or ruler. The second is the word for enchanter as in verse 2:48. The third word is magos which is translated as magician. Daniel was made archon or ruler of the enchanters, magicians, Chaldeans, and soothsayers who constitute the Wise Men of Babylon.

Tim is totally wrong in his assessment of Daniel. The Septuagint version of Daniel does not help Tim's case at all. Tim's comments only muddy the waters for readers who won't or can't take the time to learn exactly how Sophos and Magos is used in the Septuagint version of Daniel.

That should be the end of the matter but of course it's not. Tim's fake Filipino etymology for this word is incredibly stupid. Let's look at it anyway.

What if the Philippines actually had a documented social class of royals known as the MAGI in their native, ancient language? Of course, that would be impossible. No such thing could ever occur... unless... it does! Filipinos already know what we are conveying as there is an ancient royal classification known as the MAGInoo. This was the highest social order, which included what one would refer to as Kings and princes. Then, Revelation of the Magi tells us these were Kings, sons of Kings, and Wise Men. It is not difficult.

MAGInoo: Tagalog: gentlemangentlemanlyhonorable.
maginoohin: of gentlemanly habits or bearing. Root: ginoó: mister; sir; gentleman. The female counterpart to “ginoo” is “ginang.” pagka-máginoó: Tagalog: quality of being noble, worthy or stately.

This title for royalty in the Philippines preceded the Spanish arrival recorded in use in 1571 and 1690 among other references. Better yet, it was recorded in the first century by the Apostle Matthew, who used the Greek language to express a word that was not of Greek origin. He was translating Tagalog into Greek.

pgs. 71-72
Behold Tim's brilliant solution! Matthew was translating Tagalog into Greek by transforming Maginoo into the word Magos. Why would Matthew shorten the word from Maginoo to Magos? Why would the usage of Magos in Matthew be different from that in Acts? Tim never explains how Magos is Filipino for Maginoo in Matthew and is Greek for sorcerer in Acts. Instead he gives a litany of Filipino words that begin with mag or magi and this is supposed to be his proof that Matthew was translating Tagalog into Greek. There was also no royal class in the Philippines known as Magi or Magos. They were called Maginoo. The words are not the same!

However, the scoffing academic would then ignorantly claim, “that is simply not enough.” No, it is not, and that is not the end of this narrative. What about these two definitions of prayer and silence? Certainly, neither of those could be of Philippine origin. Scoff! Scoff! Snark! Oops! They both are! In Tagalog, the national Filipino language, the prefix mag is used in magdasal, meaning to prayMAG and MAGI are the origin, the root words, with a plethora of combinations in linguistics, which identify even other traits of the ancient Magi Filipino. Wow!

mag+root: [affix/verb] to do something; to do an occupation; to go; to use something; to wear something; to do a reciprocal action; to be.

MAGdasál: Tagalog: to pray.3
MAGa-ampo: Ilonggo/Hiligaynon: to pray. managampo: Bisaya: ampo: to surrender.

pg. 72

If Tim wants to go this route of listing words with mag in them how about this verse from Jeremiah 39:3.

And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

Rabmag means magian or Magian or soothsayer or an official of Babylon.

Is this word also of Filipino origin? Or perhaps it is more proof Tim is wrong about his etymology of magos.

Finally, Tim gives us this gem.

The Chinese were documenting the account all along. They went to the Philippines to trade with an island, likely Mindoro, which they called MA-I or MA- YI. Wait! You mean they were attempting to express MAGI? We find that likely.

“An edict of 972 indicates that Mindoro (Ma-i) was part of that trade: In the fourth year of the K’ai Pao period [972], a superintendent of maritime trade was set up in Kwangchow, and afterwards in Hangchow and Mingchow also a superintendent was appointed for all Arab, Achen, Java, Borneo, Ma-i, and Srivijaya barbarians, whose trade passed through there, they taking away gold, silver, strings of cash, lead, tin, many-colored silk, and porcelain...” –William Henry Scott

“The first Philippine tribute mission to China appears to have come from Butuan on 17 March 1001. Butuan (P’u-tuan) is described in the Sung Shih (Sung History) as a small country in the sea to the east of Champa, farther than Ma-i...” –William Henry Scott5

Mindoro is on the way to Butuan, and we vet that further in The Search for King Solomon’s Treasure: The Lost Isles of Gold & The Garden of Eden. However, one of the most amazing facts about Mindoro or Ma-Yi, is the name of its indigenous tribes– the MAGI! Mindoro is historically famous for its skill in working with gold in fact.

Mang yan:

Mangyan is the generic name for the eight indigenous groups found in Mindoro each with its own tribal name, language, and customs. The Mangyans were once the only inhabitants of Mindoro

pgs. 78-79

"We find that likely?" That is not a proof! That is conjecture. Ma-I is not Magi or Maginoo. Also the tribes of Mindoro are not called Magi but Mangyan as Tim even admits just after calling them Magi! Why is he lying about the Mangyan being Magi when he has already said Magi has its origins in Maginoo? He can't even keep his theories straight.

This whole chapter is completely worthless. Not one time does Tim attempt to prove Matthew was "translating Tagalog into Greek" or that the Chinese meant Magi by Ma-I. He simply sates it as a fact and moves on to listing Filipino words with mag or magi claiming that is proof enough. He even has the gall to say the tribes of Mindoro are called Magi and then show they are actually called Mangyan! He is blatantly lying to the reader's face and is making it all up as he goes. He is "Baffling with BS." Tim is in fact storytelling.

Are we "storytelling" or are we presenting the facts?

pg. 161

There is no reason to debate Tim on every word he lists because he has said Magi means Maginoo yet he has not proved that Matthew was "translating Tagalog into Greek." The Greek word magos pre-dates the Gospel of Matthew in Herodotus by almost 500 years. He does not even try to prove his case in any meaningful way except to say, "Look! This word looks and sounds like that word therefore it is that word or it is related to that word." That is not how linguistics works!
