How Google Classifies Certain Filipinos

I noticed something very interesting when searching Google for Joma Sison.

Rather than labelling him a politician or a terrorist or the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines Google refers to him as a Filipino writer. Just like national hero Jose Rizal.

Sure Rizal was an ophthalmologist but doesn't his literary talent overshadow his medical practice? What about the organisation Sison founded? The CPP is considered a terrorist organisation by many governments. What does Google say?

A political party? Absolutely not. Certain party-list groups not withstanding no one in any office in the Philippines is a member of this "political party."  What about their armed wing the NPA?

Armed service? That is rather close to armed force. Which is what Google labels the Philippine Army. Google's algorithm says the NPA and the Philippine Army are basically the same.

Let's try some other famous Filipinos and Philippine groups and see what Google has to say about them.

Nur Misuari, founder of the MNLF, is a mere politician.  Just like Risa Hontiveros.

If Nur Misuari is a politician then what does that make his group the MNLF?

A political organisation obviously. And just as obviously this is all wrong. The MNLF is a Muslim separatist group formed in the 70's. It has never been and never will be a political organisation. The MNLF is without question a terrorist organisation who fought against the Philippine government and is still at odds with them after they were ousted from the ARMM and the BARMM was put in place. The Zamboanga siege of 2013 was the MNLF's last big operation.

What about other people who are terrorists and the groups they are connected with?  How does Google classify them?

None of these men are listed as terrorists nor are these groups listed as terrorist organisations. Why? Actually if you search for Bin Laden, Ramzi Yousef, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, ISIS, Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and many others none them are labelled either terrorist or terrorist organisation. In fact they have no label at all. Why does Google refuse to label these men as terrorists and these groups as terrorists organisations? I don't know.  But I do know Google manipulates search results.

https://www.businessinsider.com/google-manipulates-search-results-report-2019-11
But a new Wall Street Journal investigation found that Google manipulated search algorithms in some worrying ways, including prioritizing large businesses over smaller ones, removing autocomplete results that involve sensitive topics like immigration and abortion, and even outright blacklisting some websites.
Is that what is going on here? IS terrorism to sensitive to call out and label? Again I don't know but it is a little strange.

Let's try just a few more. What does Google think of the MILF and its current chairman who is head of the BARMM?

The MILF is just an armed force like the NPA and the Philippine Army while Murad, who is a terrorist heading the BARMM, has no label. I could fill up this page all day with anomalies like the ones above but I will leave you with two more. Two very well known politicians. Senators Vic Sotto and Grace Poe. How does the Google algorithm categorise them?

Senate President Sotto is a mere actor and Senator Poe is a businesswoman. What business does she own?

Try it yourself with other personalities. See what you come up with.

Things That Don't Make Any Sense

Let's end 2018 by taking a look at some things that don't make a bit of sense.

SM always has the strangest deals. Buy four cans of San Mig Light and get a roll of paper towels free. Or is it buy a roll of paper towels and get four cans of San Mig Light free? How do these two items go together? Maybe you will spill your beer and need a paper towel to clean up. Maybe you can use the a paper towel as a beer coozie. Maybe they are just trying to get rid of stocks as fast as possible.

After a hard day at work in the sugar cane fields it's time to wash your clothes. But where to hang them? Why not in the bed? But are these the driver's clothes or the harvester's clothes? Where did they wash them? Since many drivers sleep in their trucks either in the cab or in a hammock under the bed perhaps it's not so strange to hang up the wash in the empty bed.

Nothing strange about an ATM right? Sure but look at the computer on the ground.

That is the brain of this ATM. Anyone can come along and unplug the machine if they so choose. But people aren't that malicious you say. So what? The point is the machine should be secure. How hard is it to have this ATM against the wall and the computer running it protected and out of sight?

Touching butts while taking a pee. Who designed this??

I looked down and there it was. The tooth. Where did it come from? How did it get there? The world will never know.

Well thank goodness the construction team is kind enough to warn us not to park here. We would not want debris falling on and destroying our vehicle. What are they building anyway?

NOTHING!!!  There is literally no construction happening but this sign is warning of falling debris. Falling from where? The sky?? Ridiculous.

The Strangest Beautification Program is Happening in Town

Someone has kidnapped a few Minions, sliced their heads open, replaced their brains with plants, and arranged them in various spots around town!

It's an interesting concept.  I wonder how long they will stay in place before being withered and destroyed by neglect.

Fil-Ams Give Free Publicity to McDonald's With Poster Prank

These two friends had a great laugh hanging an unauthorised photograph of themselves in a Pearland, TX, McDonald's restaurant.

http://usa.inquirer.net/15378/fil-students-go-viral-sneaking-fake-poster-mcdonalds
Hanging on the wall of a local McDonald’s in Pearland, Texas, the poster — as legitimate as it looks — was not provided by the billion-dollar fast food chain, but by 21-year-old Fil-Am Jevh Maravilla who decided to pull off a genius prank of creating his own poster and hanging it up on the eatery’s wall.
“I noticed there was a blank wall at McDonald’s so I decided to make this fake poster of me and my friend,” wrote Maravilla in a viral tweet that has been retweeted over 250,000 times and liked over one million times as of Friday, September 7.
“It’s now been 51 days since I hung it up,” revealed Maravilla in his Monday, September 3 tweet.
The University of Houston student said that the need for diversity and representation of Asians in the media was the main inspiration for his stunt.
“If you haven’t noticed, there isn’t a lot of Asians represented in media,” Maravilla said in a YouTube video titled, “How to Become McDonalds Poster Models.”
“And hopefully one day I could see someone like me on the big screen,” he added, alongside another Photoshopped picture of himself on the movie poster of the latest blockbuster hit “Crazy Rich Asians.”
The idea came in mid-July when Maravilla and his also Fil-Am friend Christian Toledo were eating snack wraps at a McDonalds in Pearland, Texas.  Upon noticing the lack of Asians in the restaurant’s posters, the two thought it would be a great opportunity to add some new wall art.
In his YouTube video, Maravilla explained the process of taking the photo in front of their local neighborhood event center, editing the photo and having it printed at Office Depot, coincidentally finding a McDonald’s polo shirt at a thrift store for $7, pairing the shirt with a tie and badge with a title of “Regional Interior Coordinator,” and finally hanging the photo up.
The video has garnered over 900,000 views on YouTube as of Friday, September 7.
To BuzzFeed, Maravilla said, “I feel so thankful.  I didn’t know how much of a difference I can make in people’s eyes.  Even one tweet can change the world.”
This genesis of this "prank" is the complaint that there aren't a lot of Asians represented in the media. Newsflash to Jevh Maravilla...Asians are not the majority in the USA.  Caucasians and Negroes far out number Asiatics by a huge margin. Specifically in Pearland, TX the demographics are as follows:
The racial makeup of the city as of the 2010 Census was 62.0% White, 16.4% African American, 0.5% Native American, 12.4% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 6.0% from "some other race", and 2.7% "two or more races". The Hispanic or Latino population, including persons of any race, was 20.5% of the total, and non-Hispanic whites made up 48.8%. The city is majority minority.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearland,_Texas#Demographics
Overall in the USA the demographics are as follows:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demography_of_the_United_States#Race
Asians compose only 5.2% of the entire population in the USA! Is it any wonder then that Asians are not represented as much in the media? No it's not but these guys have drank the social justice and identity politics kool-aid and think that faces in media must be so diverse as to always be representing people who like them.

So what do these guy do in response to this alleged underrepresentation of Asians in the media? They find a McDonald's polo at a thrift store and one of them wears it so he appears official and then they install a huge photograph of themselves eating McDonald's food.

Not only is that not a very funny prank but now with their stunt going viral they have given McDonald's free advertising. With the social climate in the USA as it is there is no way McDonald's will ever remove that unauthorised photo because if they do charges of racism will automatically be thrown at them and that will be the death knell of that particular McDonalds's store.

A better prank, in my opinion, would have been to have these two friends eating food from Burger King or Taco Bell or anywhere else but McDonald's.  Such a photo would have been subversive and very funny. It would have been a prank.

But as it is these two Fil-Am's have not broken any barriers or done anything funny but have only continued to play into the hands of modern day American identity politics. Honestly who cares if there are people that "look like you" in advertisements or TV or movies?  These are all means to sell you products!!  All companies care about ultimately is the bottom line. If people do not buy their products then the company will not make money.

Unbeknownst to them these two friends have become part of the capitalist corporate machine that rules America.

Ha ha ha ha!  Good one guys! But the joke's on you!

El Pollo-Fil-A

Chicken is as much of a staple as rice in the diet of the Philippines. No surprise then when a new chicken store recently opened.

Much to my disappointment this store does not sell cooked chickens. They only sell dressed chickens which you can take home and roast or fry yourself. They also sell all the standard sari-sari store fare because in essence that is what this place is. A sari-sari store which sells dressed chickens.

I left empty handed.

One the way home I could not shake the feeling that something about this store seemed mighty familiar.

Mighty, mighty familiar.

But I can't quite put my finger on it.

Can you?

The Flying on a Plane Because He's Been Deported Dutchman

A Dutchman in Cebu has been arrested and will be summarily booted from the Philippines for being an undesirable alien. What makes him so undesirable?

http://www.sunstar.com.ph/manila/local-news/2018/04/09/declared-persona-non-grata-cebu-dutchman-be-deported-soon-597542
According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, Vondeling was arrested on the strength of a warrant of deportation issued against him by the BI last September 2015.
Morente said the issuance of the arrest order was prompted by the resolution penned by San Fransisco, Cebu municipal council and Barangay Poblacion council dated July 2014, declaring the Dutchman a persona non grata and recommending his deportation.
Both resolutions, which stated that the Dutchman is “inimical to public order, safety and morals,” stemmed from his failure to secure building permits for the two resorts that he was constructing in San Francisco town.
Morente said that: “Foreigners like him who refuse to comply with our laws and who openly manifest disrespect to persons of authority do not deserve the privilege to stay in our country."
I fail to see the problem. He is merely doing business the Filipino way! Who needs a permit??

If only they kicked out illegally operating contractors and business owners and corrupt officials.  Then there would be no businesses or politicians in the Philippines!

A Rather Lovely House

Look at this house.  It's rather quaint don't you think?

It's got a nice white exterior with red trimming. There is plenty of flora to beautify the place. A lovely hedgerow adorns the front along the cement wall.

It's also surrounded by a filthy moat filled with slimy garbage and foul waste water.  Run-off water from storms and washing clothes and probably from the toilet as well. A breeding ground for mosquitos and a bath house for rats.

Gross.

Remember: in the Philippines appearances are always deceiving.

Family Medical Clinic and Coffee Shop

It was only a few months ago that a brand new Family Medical Clinic and Coffeeshop opened its doors to the public in the Philippines, the first of its kind anywhere in the world and a testament to Filipino efficient and creativity.

Patients waiting to see a doctor were able to have a hot cup of joe to keep them awake as they waited for their examination. The diuretic effects of coffee no doubt aided those who needed to give urine samples. In addition to coffee there was also ice cream and other healthy snacks for sale. There were a few drawbacks however. Patients we interviewed complained that the doctor always had rank coffee breath and those with breathing problems complained about the overwhelming scent of fresh ground beans and fresh brewed 3 in 1. All were satisfied with the level of patient care remarking that it was quite satisfying to know they were tended to by the only doctor/barista in the world.

But in a shocking twist of events this unique medical clinic recently closed its doors leaving the public and the world without a medical clinic/coffeeshop.

Rumour has it that the owners of this facility have opened up a Family Medical Clinic and Sari Sari store somewhere else in town, another first of its kind.
