Three members of family died while another was injured in a fire that gutted the victims’ property in Tarlac City on Tuesday.
Lloyd Paglingayen, his wife April Marie, 39, and their daughter Naarah Olivia, 7, died at the scene of the incident that occurred at past 3 a.m. in Barangay San Sebastian
Another member of the family, James Olive, 14, was rushed to the Tarlac Provincial Hospital for treatment of burns and other injuries.
Probers said James managed to escape from the blaze while his relatives were trapped in the house.
Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Some PHP9 million worth of properties were destroyed in a three-hour fire that hit Barangay Tetuan, this city, early Thursday.Supt. Hundreds of families were displaced and 400 houses were razed in a fire in coastal Barangay 21-C here on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 2.
Barangay Chairman Joenard Gabrillo, in a report to the Office of the Vice Mayor, said validation is ongoing to determine exact number of affected persons.
Initial estimates showed that the fire that reached the fourth alarm displaced about 1,000 individuals since the area hosts dozens of boarding houses.
Displaced residents said the fire quickly spread as most of the cramped houses were made of light materials.
They added that strong winds may have also aggravated the fire.
Arson investigators said the fire that started at 4:43 p.m. affected at least 6,000-square meters.Fire out was declared at 7:27 p.m.
Also known as Piapi Boulevard, the area was also hit by a massive fire in February 2023.
Acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte III brought boxes of food and water for fire victims sheltered in a nearby gymnasium.
Duterte assured victims that the city government will provide relief and financial assistance.The City Social Welfare and Development Office deployed modular tents and provided hot meals for them.

While food and water remain urgent needs, victims of Thursday’s fire in Barangay 17 here are also appealing for housing materials so they can begin to rebuild their homes.
The blaze displaced 121 families, who are now staying in green tents set up under Marcos Bridge.
According to data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), 78 houses were damaged in the fire.
Residents recalled the fire started around 12:50 p.m.
“The police patrol arrived after about 10 minutes, then the firefighters followed,” said Wendylyn Victoria, one of the displaced.
Victoria said two houses were initially engulfed, but the flames spread as the firetruck struggled with weak water pressure. By the time the supply was stabilized, five houses had already been consumed.
Now left with only what they managed to carry, residents say rebuilding will be the hardest part.“What we really need are materials to rebuild our houses,” Victoria said. “Even if we can manage our daily needs, it’s the house that’s hardest to rebuild.”
Victoria, who has lived in Barangay 17 since 2003 with her mother, nieces, and nephews, said this was already the third fire in their area.
Asked if she had thought of moving, she replied: “If it’s just about safety, we’re eager to relocate.”
But relocation is not easy, she added, citing livelihood and children’s schooling.
“Some of our neighbors moved to Mambuaya, but it’s hard to make a living there,” she said, referring to a relocation site in Mambuaya village established by the city government.
Victoria works as a janitor at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center, a kilometer away, making their current location practical for her job.
Likewise, her nieces and nephews attend school in Barangay Consolacion, just a seven-minute walk from their home.
Already, civic groups have launched a fundraising drive to aid the fire victims. News organizations such as RMN News, i-FM, and Mindanao Gold Star Daily also called for donations./coa

A huge fire hit a residential area in Barangay 705, Leveriza Street, Manila, on Friday night, Oct. 3, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
According to the BFP, the blaze started at around 9:25 p.m. and has reached the second alarm at around 9:36 p.m.
Firefighters are on site to extinguish the fire.

Up to 100 families were left homeless after a fire broke out at a neighborhood in Malate in Manila on Friday.
The blaze started from a two-story house along Leveriza Street in Barangay 705 at 9:24 p.m., according to a report from the Manila Police District.
The MPD said most of the destroyed houses were made of light combustible materials.
The Bureau of Fire Protection raised the first alarm at 9:33 p.m. and elevated it to second alarm two minutes after. The BFP declared the blaze controlled at 10:50 p.m. and fire out at 12:03 a.m. yesterday.
According to the MPD, the blaze displaced 70 to 100 families. Investigators initially estimated property losses to be at P500,000.
The fire victims are sheltered at the Dakota covered court at the corner of Quirino Avenue and Asuncion Street, the MPD added.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Barangay 705 chairperson Lara Teves said some residents blamed people who burn copper as having caused the blaze.

A late afternoon fire that broke out in Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City, on Saturday, October 11, gutted a residential structure and caused around P480,000 worth of damage, authorities reported.
The Cebu City Fire Station reported that the blaze occurred within 40 square meters of residential property at #444 B. Aranas Street around 4:08 p.m.
Firefighters responded within six minutes of receiving the alarm and declared the fire under control at 4:26 p.m. It was fully extinguished 10 minutes later.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire originated in the second-floor room of the residence owned by Benita Rosaroso Jr. and occupied by Regalado Sabuero III and his family.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but initial reports indicated it may have started in an unoccupied room being used as a guest area.
The fire reached first alarm status and was responded to by 11 firefighters using BFP Engines 1, 3, and 12, along with Squad 13 and two ambulances on stand by.
Additional assistance came from five auxiliary units, including the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) and local barangay fire brigades.
Despite heavy rainfall, firefighters managed to swiftly contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses. No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.
Based on the final report from the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), three families composed of nine individuals were affected by the blaze. The city government has since provided food packs and family kits to the victims.
For additional support, the DSWS recommended P40,000 in financial assistance, allocating P20,000 for the main affected family and P10,000 each for two house sharers.
As of this report, investigators from BFP are continuing to determine the cause of the fire.

A pet Corgi and 2 pet mixed breed dogs died in 2 separate fires in Cebu City this morning, October 15, which also happened in a span of nearly three hours.
Aside from the dead pets, the fire also displaced 45 individuals, razed 14 houses and gutted 4 others.
That is according to the Cebu City Fire Office, who responded and put out both fires.
Fire investigators also placed the damage to property at P1,567,500.00.
Two dogs died at the past 6 a.m. fire, today, in B. Aranas Extension, Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.
The owner of the dogs, a certain Dave, told a reporter of dyHP in an interview that his pets were a mixed breed — one was a mixed Labrador called Rushie while the other was a Bulldog-Aspin mixed breed who was named Thunder.
“Gibuhian man to nako unya abi nakog nisunod sila nako paggawas sa balay, said Dave when the fire started gutting their house.
(I have let them loose from their leash and I thought that they followed me in going outside the house.)
The dogs unfortunately went back to the burning house and hid under a furniture inside the house.
They were not burned but they died from the extreme heat as the fire raged.
According to the Cebu City Fire Office, the fire was reported at 6:45 a.m., they responded at was at the fire scene at 6:49 a.m.
The CCFO also said that the fire was placed under control at 7:14 a.m. and was declared fire out at 7:21 a.m.
According to CCFO in the report, 11 houses were razed, and 1 other was gutted by the early morning fire.
The report also said that the Duljo Fatima fire displaced 25 individuals and damage to property was estimated at P1,192,500.00.
A neighbor, whose home was just across the house where the fire started, told a dyHP reporter that there was a loud explosion before the fire.
She claimed that she believed that this might have been an air conditioning unit overheating.
The CCFO, however, was still verifying this claim as the investigation on the cause of the fire was still ongoing.
A few hours later or nearly three hours later at 9:30 a.m., another fire was reported at Sitio Nalsubi, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
The Cebu City firefighters were at the fire scene at 9:35 a.m.
The CCFO in a report said that the fire was placed under control at 9:49 a.m. and was declared fire out at 9:54 a.m.
The report said that 3 houses were razed while 3 others were gutted by the fire.
Aside from that, 20 individuals were also displaced by the blaze.
Fire investigators estimated the damage to property at P375,000.00.

Aside from the razed houses and displaced individuals, the fire also killed a one-year-old pet Welsh Corgi.
According to the teen owner of the dog, her pet canine was trapped on the second floor of the house as the fire raged.
She said that she could not save her pet as the fire was already too big.
Fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the Labangon fire.

Three children died after a fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City on Tuesday.The victims, aged 10, seven, and five years old, were siblings, according to Isa Avendaño-Umali’s report on Super Radyo dzBB.Janine Miñoza, the children’s mother, said she was at the hospital arranging her mother’s medical examination when the fire broke out.The Quezon City Fire District said the victims, two of whom are male, were found on the second floor of their house.
They added that the cause of death could be suffocation, but a source said the bodies were charred.
The children’s bodies were brought to the funeral home past 2 p.m.
The fire, which reached third alarm, also affected a three-storey house and affected 33 families.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.Barangay personnel, meanwhile, said they will provide assistance to Miñoza’s family.

A 10-year-old girl died and a civilian was injured in a fire that broke out in residential area in Pasay City, Friday night, Oct. 17.
According to the Pasay City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) the blaze affected a total of 347 individuals.
The fatality was identified as Jamzey.
The injured, Michael,44, sustained a laceration on the left shoulder.
The BFP said the fire started at 11:07 p.m. at a house occupied by Marissa Lomibao, located at 2 Conchita M. dela Cruz St., Barangay 127, Pasay City. The flames immediately spread to nearby houses.
A total of 52 fire trucks responded and extinguished the blaze at 12:22 a.m. on Saturday.The BFP said the damage cost was placed at P450,000.
The Pasay City Social Welfare and Development reported that the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the victims were brought to the Juan Sumulong Elementary School.
She ordered the setting up of modular tents and the provision of food packs and other necessary supplies for the victims.

A couple and their 13-year-old daughter died, charred almost beyond recognition, in a fire that razed their house in Mega Heights Subdivision, Barangay Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City, just before midnight on Monday, October 20.
Radio reports from Cotabato City on Tuesday morning said officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection–Cagayan de Oro City (BFP-CDO) and the Police Regional Office 10 identified the fatalities as Sisinio Talara, his 40-year-old wife Annie Rose Talara, and their 13-year-old daughter Mary Rose.
City and barangay officials said the victims were reportedly trapped inside their house when the fire broke out.
Responding firefighters from different stations in Cagayan de Oro City—the capital of Region 10—were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes, according to BFP and police officials.
Local officials said the city government will help facilitate the burial of the three victims.
A fire gutted 1,000 houses and displaced nearly 2,000 people in Barangay Catmon, Malabon on Wednesday, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
The BFP said the blaze began at 4:49 p.m. in Banal na Krus in Sitio 6. It was put out by 11:53 p.m.
According to the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 1,906 affected people sought temporary shelter at the Catmon Evacuation Center, Catmon Integrated School, Acacia Elementary School and Tonsuya Covered Court.
Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval ordered all city departments placed on high alert and to provide the affected residents with food, modular tents and medical services as well as mobile water and sanitation facilities.
“We have ensured that every department of the city government is ready to assist affected families,” Sandoval said.

A 50-year-old man died in a fire that broke out in a residential area in Marikina City before dawn on Saturday, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Dobol B TV.
The fire started at 2:03 a.m. in a compound on Road 3 in Barangay Tañong.
It quickly spread since the houses were made of light materials.
Initial information from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) revealed that the victim was able to lead his grandchildren out of their house. However, he went back to get his passport and valuables but was not able to come out anymore.
Fire out was declared at 2:56 a.m.
The BFP said 26 individuals were affected and one woman was injured.
Six houses were damaged by the fire. Estimated cost of structural damage was pegged at P350,000 by the BFP.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, the BFP said.

A pre-dawn blaze razed a furniture factory and several nearby homes in Sitio Nasipit, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City, early Saturday, October 25.
The fire left at least 16 families, made up of 49 individuals, homeless, this was based on an initial report from the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) and the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS).
Aside from that, it also caused extensive property damage.
The fire broke out at 2:22 a.m. inside Pelayo’s Furniture, a family-owned establishment, and quickly spread to adjacent residential structures, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) –Talamban Substation.
The factory, owned by Alfredo Pelayo, and several homes were reduced to ashes before firefighters fully extinguished the flames.
Fire investigators recorded a total of seven houses affected, of which four were totally burned and three only gutted.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
The BFP said it received the alarm at 2:22 a.m., immediately responded within three minutes, and declared the fire under control at 4:07 a.m. before declaring it fire out by 4:46 a.m.
The incident reached second alarm status at 2:41 a.m.
Multiple fire stations from neighboring cities also responded, including units from Mandaue City Fire Station, Talisay City Fire Station, and barangay fire brigades, totaling 19 auxiliary responders. One ambulance also stood by for medical emergencies.
Authorities reported that the fire affected a total floor area of approximately 720 square meters, damaging both the furniture facility and nearby residences.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire officers from BFP.
Meanwhile, the Cebu City government, through the CCDRRMO and DSWS, has begun extending assistance to the affected families, including relief support to the fire victims, who were temporarily staying at the Talamban barangay hall.
As of press time, the BFP continues to assess the extent of property damage and determine the origin of the blaze.

A fire broke out in a residential area at Barangay San Antonio, Quezon City on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30.
According to Txtfire Philippines, the fire was raised to 1st alarm at 1:51 p.m. and escalated to 2nd alarm at 1:55 p.m.
The blaze was raised to 3rd alarm at 2:01 p.m. and was declared under control at 2:42 p.m.
As of this posting, firefighters are still trying to extinguish the fire.
That is 17 reported incidents for October. Remember, these are only the major fires reported in the national media. Residential fires are up all across the nation and they do not all make the news. This is the tip of the iceberg concerning the real situation in the Philippines.
