99 Days Until Christmas!

It's that time of the year again.  Time to countdown to Christmas.

The Greatest Season on Earth!

This year's inspiration draws from the circus which brings to mind a very famous quote from P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman on Earth:
"There's a sucker born every minute."
And if you believe he said that then you are just another sucker because he never did say it.

Season's Greetings!

Happy Valentine.......I mean Merry Christmas!

Hold on let me get a clearer view because that nest of electrical wires is blocking everything.

There we go.

Merry Christmas everyone! Is this a case of laziness, forgetfulness, or something else? Cherry Mobile is renting these billboards but do they not have time to coordinate their ad campaigns to be seasonly appropriate? Where is the Valentine's Day ad? These pictures were taken on February 12th. I know Christmas starts early in the Philippines but this is a little too early.

And those electrical wires!  Don't get me started. So thick and low that you can't see the billboard and in some cases you can't see the traffic lights either.  No wonder traffic here is slow.  With all the low hanging wires no one can tell if the light has changed.

It's the Thought That Counts

An older lady, a friend, came over to the house and brought along her Christmas gift from the organisation for which she works.

It came in a nice enough case. Whatever's inside must have been be fairly expensive to warrant this protective housing.

Wow! It's a watch. And what a watch! A bejeweled Spiderman face with a fat pink wrist band. Who is this for? The pink says girl but Spiderman and the width of the band say boy. It's like My Little Pony and Marvel had a baby no one wanted.

My Spidey sense is tingling and it is telling me this watch is a devious device which only a villain like Hobgoblin would dream of designing. Spiderman is stuck forever on that face surrounded by those tiny blue jewels. No more will he ever see Mary Jane or Aunt May. He is trapped by time. He is frozen IN time because there is no battery to make the clock tick and time move forward.

That's right!  This watch came with no battery.  How convenient.

Why would someone think this is the perfect gift for a 50 year old woman?  Why would someone think this is the perfect gift for anyone of either sex or any age? Where was this even bought? I can't imagine the rationale behind buying this piece of junk. Who would ever look at this and think, "Ah-ha! This is it! She's really going to love this."? Maybe it was just a cast-off lying around that needed getting rid of and this old lady just happened to be the perfect opportunity. Now it's stuck at my house because she so conveniently left it behind.

Whatever the case it's not a pretty thought since this lady works for a religious organisation which one would think would be more thoughtful about a Christmas gift. They gave her a worthless gift instead of giving her an end-of-year Christmas bonus! She would have been better off with one of those SM Christmas baskets with cookies and olive oil and canned meat.

Christmas Baskets

What did you get for Christmas this year?  Maybe you got one of these sweet gift baskets from SM!

What a random basket of stuff.  Nachos, Nescafe, canned ham, canned fruit cocktail, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, sparkling juice, and a bottle of olive oil. How does any of that stuff go together?

This is practically the same basket only with Oreos and Pringles instead of nachos.

I assume these are all for a party. Maybe an employer bought a whole bunch of these bags and is giving them away as gifts. But it's just random food stuff thrown into a plastic bag and tied shut wth a  red ribbon. Merry Christmas. How thoughtful.

I won't say the above baskets are garbage because they aren't. Some people might actually appreciate those baskets. But here is some garbage skilfully crafted into the Spirit of Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

♫ It's the most wonderful time of the year! ♫

Yes indeed it's that time of the year again.  The most wonderful time of the year!  The hap-happiest season of all! 🎄

It's the "ber" months.

What's that you ask?

The "ber" months. You know.  Septem-ber, Octo-ber, Novem-ber, and Decem-ber.

Christmas isn't actually until December 25th but September is when everything gets started. Take a look.

Filipinos are so devout and love the Lord Jesus Christ so intently that they start preparations for his birthday celebration  4 months in advance.

Be sure to set up your Christmas tree and stars of Bethlehem now.  Festoon your house with lights and let everyone know how much you look forward to the birthday of God incarnate, Jesus Christ.

And don't forget to tell magic genie Santa Claus what you wish for Christmas.
