Jeepney Art 14: You're a Jeepney, Harry

"Ah, go boil yet heads, both of yeh," said Hagrid. "Harry -- yer a jeepney." 

There was silence inside the hut. Only the sea and the whistling wind could be heard. 

"-- a what?" gasped Harry. 

"A jeepney, o' course," said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, which groaned and sank even lower, "an' a thumpin' good'un, I'd say, once yeh've been tuned up a bit. With a body an' engine like yours, what else would yeh be? An' I reckon it's abou' time yeh picked up some passengers."

Thirteen is an unlucky number but if you manage to breathe in the exhaust of a beautiful and ornately decorated jeepney then count yourself very lucky indeed.

In accordance to the government's PUV modernization program, modernized passenger jeeps run on a Euro 4 engine considered to be environment-friendly and fuel-efficient compared to that of older models. 

Additional features installed to ensure passengers a safer and and more convenient commute include air conditioning, GPS navigation, a speed limiter, CCTV and dashboard cameras are also installed.

Air conditioning? CCTV?  A safer and more convenient commute? That's no jeepney! That's a minibus! They might as well forgo jeepeny's altogether and upgrade to a modern day bus system with planed routes and all that. What's worse is this minibus has no character. It's just a boring old box on wheels designed to take people places. When these contraptions have fully replaced the old jeepney's will we all pine for the days of old when the smoke belching, seat rattling, rust buckets used to clog the streets? At least they had character.  And interesting artwork.

The subject of most jeepney art is usually popular whether movies, cartoons, or famous singers and even religious matter. I have yet to see an airbrushed image of Duterte grace the side of an exhaust belching jeepeney and that is odd considering how popular he is.

There we go. Now you can see it all in full. The driver or owner of this public utility vehicle has thought it a good idea to broadcast his love for kilawin which means seafood. Get it? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge!). How lovely for all to see.

The absence of any art on the side of the jeepeny and the presence of two of these stickers on the rear windows indicates a total lack of thoughtfulness and decency on the part of the owner.

What were they thinking? They weren't!
