Cardboard Movie Display Graveyard

I went to see the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, as soon as it came out. The first showing at 11:00 am on the 14th was pretty dead.  Not packed. No lines. The theatre was basically empty. This is how it has been the past few times I have been to a see a hyped movie of the season at the first showing. I remember seeing The first Hobbit movie and I think there were maybe five other people.

This is a good thing. It means no waiting in line, no rush, and I get the best seats in the house. For this showing I took along one of my helpers who killed the kittens I found back in October.  Turns out the first showing was in 3-D which I was not keen on but I asked my helper if he wanted to see the movie in 3-D and he said yes. So I bought the tickets. The price was only 600 pesos!

600 pesos for two people for a 3-D movie!

Elsewhere in the world it would cost much more.

They also gave us a free small popcorn and soda.

I have never in my life been given a free popcorn and soda at the movies. Never. What a deal!

I did not notice until much later but the price in those tickets adds up to 460 pesos.  So why was I charged an extra 140 pesos? Was the popcorn really free or did the cashier sneak it in?

Yeah it was free. At their website I checked the price for a 3-D showing at 11:00 am and it was 640 pesos. 40 extra for ordering online!  So I have no idea what is going on here. There are some other strange things printed on that ticket like it was issued on March 24, 2014 and is valid until July 31, 2019. What!?

But I saw something much more interesting than the movie. (Consider that sentence my review.) 😛

It's a cardboard movie display graveyard!

Why is the display for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children still out?  That movie is from last year! The Smurfs 2 is a 2013 movie which makes that display four years old! All the other displays are from summer 2017. How long will they be hanging around in the cardboard movie display graveyard?

I wonder if they would give these things away. But seeing as how the first showing of the new Star Wars film had maybe 10 people I don't think there are enough die hard movie fans to want any of these displays.

A Barrel of Gasoline

Just look at this!

LOOK!

Why is he being allowed to fill up a huge plastic barrel with gasoline?  It looks like there might not even be a cover on that barrel. Is he screwing on a cap in that last picture? Hard to tell but who cares, it's huge barrel of gasoline on the back of a truck with no door on the bed! Also looks like its only being held in place with a flimsy string tied around the top.

What if he hit his brakes too hard or if he got into an accident? The barrel would roll right off and...BOOM!!!! Deadly explosion just waiting to happen. I bet he is going to sell that gasoline too. Transfer it to Coke bottles and sell it to passing motorcyclists. I have seen roadside gas stands in plenty of places. Are those even legal?

This whole situation is.........(fill in the blank) !!!!!

Retards in the Government 27

In this edition of Retards in the Government, Bato gets tossed around like the willing pawn he is.

 http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/08/1766465/dont-be-venue-destabilization-roque-tells-icc
“We urge the Court to resist attempts by some sectors to treat the Court as a venue to pursue political agenda to destabilize governments and undermine legitimate national authorities,” Roque said.
“It is indeed actions like these that politicize and dilute the Court’s mandate which ultimately undermine national efforts to punish and prosecute crimes covered by the Statute,” he added.
This is meaningless legalese which purports to communicate something profound but really communicates nothing of importance. How would the court destabilise any government? What is the process that would take? What would be the nature of the destabilisation? Destabilisation comes up often enough as a way to silence critics but it is never defined or explained.

Last week he said, "Give me one more year to end drugs." Now he wants 4 more years? He already said in August that he can't control the drug problem.

He might as well abolish the entire government. Is he really going to abolish an entire commission? Results below!
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/regions/636065/village-councilman-watchman-nabbed-in-cotabato-drug-raid/story/
Who watches the watchman?  A village councilman is small fry but still an elected official and thus deserves his very own spot in this on-going series.

I can't believe it!  Duterte actually abolished an entire commission just like he said he would!
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/951651/breaking-urban-poor-pcup-terry-ridon
“The President has also asked me to identify the commission he intends to abolish: the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing.
“And the President stated two grounds behind his decision to abolish the commission. Number one, it is, according to him, a collegial body, and they have not met as a collegial body. Number two, the commissioners are notorious for junkets abroad. This kind of work performance has no place in the Duterte administration,” Roque added.
An entire commission, abolished at Dutete's whim! Really makes you think about how precarious your job is under his watch. Wait a minute...
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/951681/roque-no-abolition-of-pcup-but-all-commissioners-to-be-fired
“With sincerest regrets I would like to correct the statement I made on the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) during this morning’s press briefing. It is to fire, and not to abolish the Commission,” Roque said in a statement.
The President talked to me, but it depends where I'll go, but it's a very difficult job, the most challenging job in the whole government. He said, "Where everyone fails, I expect you to succeed." So it's a very difficult job
Bato says Duterte will appoint him to the most difficult job in the government when he retired from the PNP. What could it be? Could it be the head of the PCUP who's commissioners he just fired? Is Duterte making way for his good buddy Bato?

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/952002/breaking-president-rodrigo-duterte-appointment-bato-dela-rosa-bureau-of-corrections

No he's going to head the Bureau of Corrections.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/952149/duterte-to-extend-batos-term-for-2-to-3-months
Wait. I guess he's not retiring as soon as he thought! Look at Bato's face!  Hahaha! Thanks, Boss Duterte.

Compliance is not an option.  "The law is the law," says Duterte.  Yes he actually said that.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/951932/sacked-cop-tasked-to-lead-new-antidrug-force
“Some guys are lucky but not so competent. Some guys are unlucky but very competent,” Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa said on Tuesday, defending his decision to bring back a canned officer as head of the PNP’s new narcotics force.
Some guys have all the luck. Some guys have all the pain. Some guys get all the breaks. Some guys do nothing but complain.

The mayor of Mainit, Surigao del Norte has been ordered suspended for issuing a special permit that allowed illegal cockfighting during a fiesta in a barangay.
According to the Office of the Ombudsman, Mainit Mayor Ramon Mondano issued a special permit to leaders of Purok Masaya for their cockfighting activities from June 20 to 22, 2016 to celebrate a fiesta in Barangay Matin-ao.
“However, it was found that no barangay clearance was issued for the cockfighting,” the Ombudsman said in a statement on Wednesday.
So the mayor needs a clearance for his own permit to be valid. I bet Duterte never had this problem when he was mayor of Davao!

What a Difference a Garbage Can Makes

Something so little like a box to put the garbage in can make a big difference.  Take a look.

No garbage box
With garbage box
At least people were thoughtful enough to toss their receipts in the corner.  But the bank should have left a box to receive the trash.  A strong wind could blow all that trash away.

Of course on the other hand having a trash can isn't always a guarantee it will be used.

Welcome to the Dead Dog Show

I have posted a number of stories about dogs being neglected and abused on this site. Lest anyone think this is an over generalisation or that only the poor and uneducated mistreat their animals I present the following story.
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/metro/636171/30-dogs-die-on-the-way-to-dog-show/story/
Thirty dogs died from severe dehydration and heat stroke on their way to a dog show on December 2.
In a report by Rida Reyes on 24 Oras on Monday, a witness said the dog breeder who owned the canines put 40 dogs inside a closed van with no aircon to transport them from Novaliches, Quezon City to a dog show by the Philippine Canine Club Inc. in Marikina.
Some 30 dogs were found either passed out or deceased; the few dogs rescuers were able rush to veterinarians passed away the following day.
Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc. condemned the dog breeder who allowed the pets to be transferred in a closed van as it
Here is a picture of the "van" in question.

http://pop.inquirer.net/2017/12/pcci-animal-lovers-condemn-death-30-dogs-marikina/
That's no van.  That is a death trap.

Breeders are not going to be your bottom of the barrel indigent who owns a scrawny dog which he feeds rice and sardines.  At least one would not think so. If someone is breeding dogs it means they probably love dogs and know how to take care of dogs and have the means to do so. What breed were these dogs anyway?

http://pop.inquirer.net/2017/12/pcci-animal-lovers-condemn-death-30-dogs-marikina/
Greyhounds? I can't tell but they don't look too different from the strays roaming neighbourhoods and digging through trash all over the country.  An article from CNN says:
On December 2, 40 dogs were transported by an exhibitor to the Beagle Fanciers Club Dog Show in Marikina in a closed van.
He added some of the dogs were whippets — lean and athletic dogs which descended from greyhounds.
The 40 dogs were of different breeds, he said.
http://cnnphilippines.com/news/2017/12/12/30-dogs-death.html
Why was this guy going to Beagle show with dogs that are not Beagles?

Don't be fooled by a breeder having membership with the Philippines Canine Club. All that means is that they filled out the right form and paid their dues.  http://www.pcci.org.ph/hows-to/how-to-become-a-pcci-member/

What does it take to become a dog breeder in the Philippines anyway?  According to these two articles it certainly does not involve getting a breeder's license. Or even a business license.

https://www.entrepreneur.com.ph/startup-tips/how-to-start-a-dog-breeding-business
https://fitzvillafuerte.com/how-to-start-a-dog-breeding-business.html
Ok the second article does mention getting a business license but only in the most casual manner as if it is nonessential or inconsequential.

Now compare the business tips in those articles from the Philippines with this advice from the USA which starts off talking about licences and permits.
Research the laws in your area by contacting your city's department of licenses and inspections or the county clerk's office. You may need a special license or permit to breed dogs or keep more than a few on your property. Some jurisdictions may also require you to register as a kennel. Determine if you need zoning approval if your home or property isn't registered for business use.
Apply for a general business license, required in many jurisdictions even if you've obtained permits required to run a breeding business.
Obtain dog breeder's insurance to cover you in the event your dogs become ill or are injured or attack a person or another dog. Policies may also provide dog death benefits as well as property and equipment damage.
http://smallbusiness.chron.com/start-business-breeding-dogs-4448.html
Licenses? Permits? Insurance? Those things are for schmucks! Just get two dogs to mate and then sell the product in three months time.  It's super easy. Anyone can do it!

Both of the business articles from the Philippines begin with how profitable breeding dogs is and how much money one can make from practically doing nothing at home! The article from the USA says NOTHING about money. In fact the article from the USA makes sure to let you know just how hard breeding dogs is.
Starting a dog breeding business requires a significant investment of time and effort as well as money for dogs, licensing and veterinarian care.
Running a dog breeding business isn't easy. Starting this type of business requires a significant investment of time and effort as well as money for dogs, licensing and veterinarian care.
It's no wonder 30 dogs died from overheating in that death trap cargo truck. That breeder was so excited about all the money he could make he probably just threw them all in the back and sped off thinking about all the lechon he would be able to buy completely unconcerned about the dog's safety.  He most likely is not a professional of any kind but thinks letting dogs mate and selling the offspring is his one way ticket to easy street.

It's really sad that practically EVERYTHING in this country boils down being a mere money relation.  Everything turns into some sort of business transaction with peddlers and even friends trying to sell you stuff you don't need just to make a quick peso. Even romantic relationships become debased business transactions.  Filipinos don't need to be selling dogs. They should be taking care of the many strays and orphans roaming all over the country.

Typical dog seller and probably breeder

Martial Law: Thinking Like Duterte

Finally the AFP and the PNP have made public their recommendation for extending martial law in Mindanao.
Another year under martial law looms in Mindanao as the police and the military as well as local government units have recommended to President Duterte that it be kept in force in view of what they considered persistent terror threats.
For field commanders, the prevailing security development on the ground was still a cause for concern despite the liberation of Marawi City, the source said.
“Our field military commanders declared that without martial law, government forces will be facing legal challenges in running after these terrorists and their supporters,” the source said.
With Mindanao still under martial law, the writ of habeas corpus will remain suspended to allow security forces to arrest suspected terrorists and their backers or sympathizers even without warrant.
stunning admission from the PNP and AFP that the Philippines, especially Mindanao, is not safe..  Persistent terror threats? Prevailing security developments a cause for concern? Those fears are a contradiction of government pronouncements declaring the Philippines safe.  Why does the AFP and PNP think they need habeas corpus suspended to arrest terrorists?  What about probable cause?  If you are in Mindanao and you belong to a terror group like BIFF, MILF, MNLF, Abu Sayyaf or any of the many others or if you are spotted with heavy military grade weapons that should be enough probable cause for your arrest.  The PNP is corrupt enough they could make up any charge to justify it. This excuse that they need to suspend habeas corpus to fight terrorism is balderdash.  Ten years of marital law under Marcos and terrorist groups are as numerous as ever.

Extending marital law because there are continuing threats also has no sound legal basis.

He stressed that martial law can only be declared and its extension authorized in “case of invasion or rebellion, when the public safety requires it.”
Lagman argued that "there is neither actual invasion or rebellion in Mindanao after Marawi City was declared by President Rodrigo Duterte as liberated from rebel and terrorist forces almost two months ago."
Representative Lagman is not thinking like Duterte. Yes there is no actual rebellion or invasion but the safety of the public has been at risk for decades and this is the route Duterte will take to justify an extension of martial law. But this begs the question: "If the security situation in Mindanao is putting the public safety at risk why hasn't martial law been implemented in Mindanao all this time?"  Abu Sayyaf kidnappings and beheadings, BIFF bombings, MILF ambushes, rido killings, clan disputes, the whole region is overflowing with violence and everyone who lives there is a potential victim. Mindanao residents allegedly claim they want martial law because it makes them feel safer. So why no martial law before in light of these continuing threats?

The nebulous phrase "when the public safety requires it" will be easily exploitable by Duterte and his yes men.  You oppose marital law?  Then you don't care about the public safety.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/950221/breaking-news-bayan-muna-carlos-isagani-zarate-human-rights-npa-cpp-new-peoples-army-communist-party-of-the-philippines-terrorist-terrorism-peace-process
The darker days referred to in this article is that declaring the CPP-NPA a terrorist group will result in human rights abuses. What a load of tripe. The real darker days to come is the bloodshed and war which will spread across the nation.  The NPA is not limited to Mindanao. They are on every island and in every province. Let's think like Duterte: the NPA represents a threat to public safety, therefore martial law must be declared nationwide since "the public safety requires it."

http://www.philstar.com/cebu-news/2017/12/06/1765819/following-wave-npa-attacks-tourists-warned-rebels
Police in Region-7 have advised tourists to shorten their trips to Negros Oriental owing to “problems” involving armed rebels.
“Here in the police department, we learned that it is safe for tourist to come to Cebu and the police assured us that security is guaranteed. We are told that there aren’t many problems with Belgian tourists and it’s pretty safe, it’s very good here,” Goffin said.
Those are the first and last paragraphs of that article.  See the cognitive dissonance?  Shorten your trip  to Negros Oriental because of the rebels but it's safe and security is guaranteed in Cebu which is in Negros Oriental. It's safe to say the the Philippines is unsafe which is why the AFP is going to war the the NPA.

It will come down to this: opposition to martial law is siding with the terrorists. One wonders why the fact that Duterte is so eager to give MILF and MNLF a huge chunk of Mindanao for their very own Islamic State does not count as siding with the terrorists.

http://globalnation.inquirer.net/162868/un-execs-hail-milf-removing-children-ranks
“The United Nations country team in the Philippines welcomes this important milestone achieved by the MILF, in demonstrating its commitment to the protection and welfare of children,” the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Philippines, Mr. Ola Almgren, shared in his message.
“We congratulate the MILF as they reach this important milestone. Children are zones of peace and their rights must be promoted and protected at all times. Unicef’s support to the MILF continues to ensure that disengaged children and their communities live in safe environments, by facilitating access to psychosocial support and other protection, social welfare, education and health services. In addition, Unicef supports parents in providing family based guidance and care,” Unicef Philippines Representative, Officer-in-Charge, Julia Rees says.
Children are zones of peace? You know what would really prove the MILF's commitment to the safety and welfare of children? Throwing down their arms and immediately ceasing all terrorist activity.  That's right.  TERRORIST ACTIVITY.  Yet to hear the government and MILF talk, this group,  because it has entered into negotiations with the government and has helped root out its rival, BIFF, is not a terrorist group.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/672207/milf-not-a-terrorist-group-malacanang
Rashid Ladiasan, chairman of the MILF’s Committee on Cessation of Hostilities, denied the accusation that the group are terrorists.
“We are not terrorists—(we) the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front). We’ve been fighting terrorism in all forms through the peace process,” he said Tuesday, in response to Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
“We even provided places and cooperation with the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines to allow the peace process to undertake its course. We’ve been doing all of these,” Ladiasan has said.
The above pronouncement was made during the Aquino administration shortly after they butchered the SAF 44. Duterte is following the same game plan as Aquino when it comes to this group and the MNLF so those who talk about LP, Yellowtard, Yellow cult destabilisers are not paying attention. They are both working with terrorists. The only difference is that Duterte is not weak and indecisive like Aquino but is doing all he can to push his agenda through which includes martial law and revolutionary government with the alleged goals of enacting federalism, writing a new conitution, and ending terrorism and the drug problem.
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/10/1766945/reds-biff-alliance-being-monitored
The military is closely monitoring reports of a tactical alliance between communist rebels and the extremist Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).
Military and defense sources disclosed the BIFF and the communist New People’s Army (NPA) have forged an alliance in their planned offensive against the government.
Sources, however, stressed the report of the tactical alliance needs further validation.
A security official, on the other hand, said Islamic militants and the NPA are known have maintained an unholy alliance despite their differing religious and political beliefs.
We are still verifying this but there is logic to the report because it’s normal either for the BIFF terrorists and also the NPAs to look for an ally to avoid a repeat of what happened to the Mautes in Marawi. If true, then I think it’s going to be just a marriage of convenience for the moment,” one of the sources said.
People are going to read that and be scared out of their mind thinking it's true when such an alliance has not even been verified. But that's how you do it. You keep the people afraid by sowing disinformation and peppering your reports and speeches with maybe, reportedly, allegedly, we are looking into it, it makes sense if it were to happen, etc. and the people will fall right into your lap so that you can do anything.

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/11/1767285/duterte-wants-1-more-year-ml-mindanao
“(The President’s) paramount concern is the security of our people especially the Mindanaoans in the face of threats and the use of available means under the law to fight them,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.
There are only a few days left in the year for Congress to decide upon an extension.
