Con-Ass

The current administration wants a new Constitution. One of the ways to do that is to convene a  special session where the House and Senate gather together to craft a Constitution. This is called a Constituent Assembly. It is also known by another name.

Con-Ass.

Buckle up!

Retards in the Government 30

The year ends with Duterte telling the whole nation it has a problem and begins with his SERIOUS stance against corruption.

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/594076/duterte-if-you-can-t-understand-me-it-s-your-problem/story/
The people look to this man for strong leadership and he is trolling them all.

Empiso said the program was intended to show drug users and their families that “we are not their enemies. We are trying to reach out to them and are here to help in any way we can.”
Modequillo added: “We are keen on giving them a second chance. We want them to know that they need not fear [us].”
He's got that backwards.  It's the cops who are looking for that second chance. How will handing out toys to children do that?

Story of the week.

Monday:

Why not just announce who it is after telling him privately first? Why the build up and making everyone anxious? It's like this is all a game. I bet it's PCSO official Balutan.

Tuesday:

SERIOUSLY!

Wednesday:
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/957139/duterte-stops-roque-from-naming-govt-official-facing-ax
He played us all along! Roque says the official to be axed is not from the PCSO but he also said he was going to reveal the name of the official on Wednesday. Not a very trustworthy guy.

Thursday:

Oh boy, now that that's over who cares?

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/30/1773011/palace-shrugs-report-facebook-helped-install-duterte

It was only a few months ago that the Duterte administration denied there was an army of keyboard warriors who helped propel him into office. Now having been completely exposed by a report on MSNBC which said that Facebook sent teams to help politicians around the world, including Duterte, utilise Facebook they are singing a different tune.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/956794/dost-offers-pnr-use-of-hybrid-train-made-by-ph-scientists
A few things:

1. Hybrid trains are in use around the world.  Why not use existing technology rather than reinvent the wheel?

2. This train needs tweaking and is not even ready nor are the railroads in any shape for this train to be put through the adequate testing needed in order to tweak it!

3. If the MRT cannot be properly maintained how would an even more advanced hybrid train be properly maintained?

It could have been a lot worse. It could have been lewd pics. Would Ejercito be defending Gatchalian if he had accidently sent lewd pics to all his followers just like Anthony Weiner did in 2011?

Filipinos do nto care about the law.  Correlation does not equal causation.
In Caloocan City, police used bullhorns from cruisers to warn people against playing with firecrackers.
But as soon as the cruisers were gone, people returned to the streets and set off bangers.
At 11:45 p.m., revelers let go, setting off “five stars,” “triangulo,” whistle bombs, “Judas’ belts” and “sawa” and launching all kinds of flying fireworks that illuminated the sky but also veiled the environment in thick smoke.
What's needed is proper enforcement and not more laws.

A lady was shot and the car in which she was being rushed to the hospital was mistaken as the getaway car of the shooters which caused all these people to fire on the car and kill the woman and one other. Great police work.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/957102/house-speaker-pantaleon-alvarez-federal-government-politics-no-election-no-el
At first glance I thought this had to do with Christmas (Noel) but it turns out it's all about the government's movement towards federalism coupled with really horrid Filipino shorthand. No-el? Really? For this no-el scenario to happen the Con-Ass (constituent assembly) will have to write a new constitution which embraces federalism.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/957336/doh-urged-to-go-easy-on-massage-therapists-on-licensing
The Department of Health (DOH) should ease its requirements on massage therapy and suspend its “no license, no massage” administrative order to give Filipinos another viable alternative livelihood, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said on Wednesday.
To become a licensed massage therapist, one should be at least a high school graduate and must undergo six months of training before taking a licensure exam administered twice a year.
The DOH had previously instructed all spas and massage clinics in the country to hire only certified massage therapists, warning that untrained hands could cause catastrophic results.
Then Health Secretary Enrique Ona warned that a wrong massage in the neck or carotid area could lead to a stroke.
Pimentel said that while he understood why the DOH set such criteria, “imposing unreasonably restrictive requirements on licensed massage therapists could negatively impact an industry that employs thousands of our citizens, including Filipinos with disabilities.”
“It’s a painful reality that many of our people cannot afford to go to school and obtain [a] high school [diploma]. But that shouldn’t prevent them from getting employed,” he added.
This guy is a grade-A retard who fits in just fine in this seriesWhy should a client seeking a massage risk his or her life just because some poor unfortunate soul needs a job? The solution is not to ease requirements but to make sure people graduate high school and are able to obtain the proper licensing for the career they chooseImagine calling for the easing of licensing requirements for any other profession like lawyer, doctor, or nurse.  As it is there are too many unqualified and unlicensed people putting everyone's lives at risk in this country every day. Particularly drivers. Should the LTFRB do away with requirements because it holds the poor back?

Vaginal Steaming

Is your vagina feeling a little down? Dry? Itchy? Got a yeast infection? Menstrual cramps? Have cysts inside your uterus which need to be surgically removed? Try a vaginal steam!

What the heck is a vaginal steam you ask?

You sit in a chair like this:

All the while a bubbling herbal concoction releases it's healing vapours up through the hole and straight into the vagina and uterus leaving you feeling as relaxed and comfy as any traditional Mayan tribeswoman could possibly feel.

What? You don't have a vagina?  Don't worry.  Healing Galing also offers a sitz bath.

A sitz who?

In layman's terms, it's a bath to wash your taint!

On the way out don't forget to buy some of the products they offer like soap and black rice tea and herbal pills.  Or maybe not.

http://www.manilatimes.net/fda-warns-vs-use-8-healing-galing-products/355598/
In its Advisory No. 2017-275, the agency named the food products that are promoted at http://healinggaling.ph/ but are not registered with the FDA: Healing Galing Rhizome Pills; Healing Galing Herbal Serpentina Tablets; Healing Galing Omega 3 Fish Oil; Healing Galing Organic Vitamins B1, B6; Healing Galing Organic Vitamin B12; Healing Galing Healing Food; Healing Galing Black Rice Coffee; and Healing Galing Pure Honey.
PURE HONEY??  Yeah sure right. Anyone who reads this blog knows what a doubtful claim that is. Fake honey is more like it.

Who runs this place?  What is this all about?
Know more about Dr. Edinell
Inspired by the wonders of natural healing and alternative medicine and moved by her strong belief in the propagation of such, Dr. Edinell Calvario pursued higher studies at The Open International University for Complementary Medicines based in Colombo, Sri Lanka earning her a Master’s Degree in Alternative Medicine (The Fellowship Register of Royal Complementary Practitioners) and Doctor of Philosophy in Alternative Medicine. She finished her collegiate course in 1983 at The Lyceum of the Philippines with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Journalism.
This "Doctor" has a Master's in Alternative Medicine, a PhD in Alternative Medicine, and a BS in Journalism.  But she lists the Bachelor degree last as if she got her Master's and then her PhD before she got her Bachelor's. It is possible she finished her collegiate courses by earning a BS in journalism but what Bachelor degree did she earn before she earned her Master's and PhD in Alternative Medicine? A PhD in Alternative Medicine!  Not an MD? That means she's a doctor like my English professor and not like my surgeon! Dr. Edinell Calvario is not a medical doctor though she is clearly portraying herself as one since her whole line of work is about medicine and not the philosophy of medicine. But you wouldn't know that unless you looked at the fine print of her credentials.

Her medical alma mater is The Open International University for Complementary Medicines which from the looks of it is likely a diploma mill.

http://asianmirror.lk/news/item/2703-indian-media-says-sri-lanka-sells-phd-for-rs-300-000

Aside from selling vaginal steams and taint baths, Dr Edinell also hosts a TV show.  Here is a review from 2015.
TV5’S new morning show, “Healing Galing sa TV,” is notable for its innovative fusion of a medical doctor and an alternative healer as the show’s cohost.
The doctor happens to be Hayden Kho, in his first regular public outing after his controversial personal and career crises some years back. The fact that TV5 has opted to enable him to make his comeback in a weekday TV show could become an “issue” with some viewers.
To be sure, other doctors and medical specialists are invited to shed light on specific illnesses, but Hayden is still the program’s top medical point man, so his competent performance in the show’s early telecasts could turn out to be a major factor in its longevity.
For her part, alternative healer Edinell Calvario has been seen on-cam in other TV shows promoting alternative healing, but this new program is her biggest showcase and platform by far.
THEY WON'T EVEN REFER TO HER AS A DOCTOR!!! The "real doctor" is also just as dubious.

Hayden Kho is, or was, a cosmetic doctor who got caught using a hidden camera to film himself having sex with an actress.  As a result he lost his licence to practice because of this unethical misconduct and subsequently attempted suicide a few times. But TV5 thinks it's just great for a disgraced plastic surgeon and an alternative healer to team up and dispense medical advice to the whole nation. It's like an episode of Oprah with Dr. Oz but much more stupid.

Alternative medicine is big business in the Philippines. Outrageous and unfounded claims abound and every gullible person with a few pesos who wants to try something new is willing to make any hardworking entrepreneur very wealthy. Why do Filipinos embrace Western technology to a fault but reject Western medicine? Everyone has a cell phone. Everyone. And they have their nose buried in Facebook all day long. But if they get sick? Better run to the witchdoctor and get some herbs because Western medicine is just going to kill you.

Ridiculous!

Martial Law: Reactionary

If there is one word to describe the government's activities during the last week of martial law for 2017 it would have to be "reactionary."

Reaction 1
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/955486/army-accuses-npa-of-violating-holiday-truce-npa-ceasefire-military-holiday-truce
Why was there ever a ceasefire in the first place?  Does Duterte know the story of the woman who nursed an injured snake back to health and as she lay dying after it bit her she asks, "Why?", and the snake says, "Lady, you knew I was a snake."?

There should never have been a ceasefire. If it's true that
Their celebration is usually accompanied by armed attacks against the people that reflect their true color as a criminal organization void of any ideology
then the AFP and Duterte should know a ceasefire is a wholly useless gesture.

Reaction 2

Let's face it, the Philippines has no use for the UN. Not even when the UN is in the Philippines' favour as in the SCS dispute with China will the Philippines show the least respect for the UN. So when the "UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples" issues a report that the rights of the Lumad people are at currently at risk and could face even more risk as a result of an extended martial law the Palace takes it as a great affront meant only to embarrass the administration and not the end result of a study of the situation of these people.

The Philippines needs no assistance in embarrassing itself in the international community. A bloody drug war, a corrupt government, terrorists, massive poverty and pollution, a high incidence of sex trafficking of children, the worst performing currency in Asia, the list could go on. The Philippines is an objectively terrible country on many levels which is undoubtedly why it is perceived that way. This brings us to:

Reaction 3
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/28/1772317/teo-misconception-philippines-challenge-tourism
Teo, a tour operator before joining government, said that among the factors affecting the number of tourist arrivals is “the perception that the Philippines is a center of natural calamities such as typhoons, flash floods and earthquakes.”
Teo added that the Marawi crisis, which officially ended in October as the government shifts to rebuilding the battle-scarred capital of Lanao del Sur, and threats to peace and order, especially in the southern Philippines is also among the problems the tourism sector faces.
Misconceptions? The governments of several nations have issued travel warnings for the Philippines which are based on facts. Let's take a look at some of them.

USA
Recent terrorist threats, kidnappings, and bombings have occurred throughout the Philippines. U.S. Embassy Manila received credible information that terrorists planned to conduct kidnappings in Palawan, Cebu, and Bohol provinces in 2017. In November 2016, a terrorist group planted an Improvised Explosive Device near the U.S. Embassy in Metro Manila. In April and May 2017, bombings in Quiapo, Manila killed two and injured twenty.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/philippines-travel-warning.html
Canada
PHILIPPINES - Exercise a high degree of caution
Exercise a high degree of caution in the Philippines due to the threat of terrorism and the high level of crime.
Here is a very detailed list of the security risks of travel to the Philippines compiled by the Canadian authorities.
https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/philippines#levels
UK
Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in the Philippines, including in Manila. Terrorist groups continue to plan attacks and have the capacity and the intent to carry out attacks at any time and anywhere in the country, including in places visited by foreigners, like airports, shopping malls, public transport, including the metro system, and places of worship. You should remain vigilant at all times and report anything suspicious to the local authorities.
Australia
There is a high threat of terrorist attack in the Philippines, including Manila. Exercise heightened caution at this time. Be alert to possible threats around locations that have a low level of protective security and places known to be possible terrorist targets. The level of our advice has not changed. Exercise a high degree of caution in the Philippines overall. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.
It's not just Western countries which have issued travel warnings to the Philippines. China, Japan, Singapore and South Korea have also issued travel warnings. The reaction of the Department of Tourism?

http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/04/17/teo-to-embassies-coordinate-with-ph-before-issuing-travel-advisories
Why is the Philippines so desperate to be a tourist hotspot but unwilling to do things which will secure tourists from harm?

Reaction 4
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/27/1772261/dutertes-martial-law-extension-challenged-sc
This reaction from Calida is a much more harsh and critical turn from his previous lighthearted statement to the opposition, "Good luck!"
"Anyone who says there is no ongoing rebellion in Mindanao is either ignorant of the factual situation there, or protective of the longest rebellion that has plagued our country," Calida said in a text message to reporters.
Calida is correct. There is an ongoing rebellion in Mindanao.
The Moro conflict is an insurgency in the Mindanao region of the Philippines.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moro_conflict
For more or less 500 years now there has been an ongoing rebellion in Mindanao. Is that reason enough to impose martial law? Calida seems to think so.
“The argument that this rebellion can be quelled in 60 days is asinine,” he said.
While Marawi City was already liberated by the armed forces last October, Calida said there was still an “on-going” rebellion in Mindanao.
In fact, the rebellion staged by various secessionist, jihadist, terrorist and communist groups in various places in Mindanao has been festering for several decades now,” the solicitor general said.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/956477/stopping-rebellion-in-60-days-thats-stupid-says-calida-jose-calida-solicitor-general-rebellion-lagman-martial-law
Calida and everyone else who supports a year long extension of martial law should welcome the challenge before the Supreme Court because whatever the decision a legal precedent will be set which will be a guiding course for the future.

Reaction 5

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/28/1772544/solons-question-inordinately-long-extension-martial-law
http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/12/28/17/duterte-wont-allow-martial-law-in-perpetuity-palace-says
If the Supreme Court rules in favour of the extension there would be no reason not to have perpetual extensions until the rebellion is wiped out. Duterte has already failed to deliver on many of his promises so why should anyone believe this one?

This is the last week of martial law in 2017. It has now been two months since the liberation of Marawi.  Does anyone remember what Lorenzana said shortly after the end of the battle?
With rhe city still not clear of IED's, with Marawi residents still living in shelters, with reconstruciotn to having begun, with a year long extension of martial law the answer is plain: No.

The First (Leaning Electrical) Post of the Year

Would ya look at that.

Wow!

How does it stay up under the weight of all those cables? And the wind? And the rain?

Reminds me of that poem by José Rizal with the famous line:
O, what a tangled web of cords Pinoys weave,
When they first practice to harness electricity.

It's a miracle that this pole has not toppled over into the street.

It's the leaning tower of the Philippines!

Always leaning and on the verge of crashing right into traffic but never actually falling. This pole, which is on the corner of a very busy street, must be invisible because surely a passing politician or  concerned citizen or electrical worker would have alerted the electric company to this situation and the pole would have been replaced.
