Insurgency: No Chance for Reds to Win

Another week, another proclamation from the AFP that the NPA is weakening and on the wane. This time it's Mindanao.

The top military commander in Southern Mindanao is certain the New People’s Army (NPA) units operating in the region will soon be eradicated as ranking officials have surrendered and are now actively supporting the government’s anti-insurgency programs.

Focused military operation, coupled with community support programs, will spell defeat for the NPA in Mindanao, according to the Philippine Army 10th Infantry “Agila” Division (10ID) commander, Maj. Gen Ernesto C Torres Jr., in a news release on Tuesday.

Torres presented 12 former high-ranking leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) at a press conference inside Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. camp in Tuboran, Mawab, Davao De Oro, simultaneous with the Agila Division’s 15th founding anniversary.

“We need to tell the stories of the former rebels, how they were deceived and exploited, in order to prevent recruitment to the communist terrorist group (CTG),” he said, stressing that his confidence is founded on sustained gains of the 10ID’s intensified operations against armed terrorists.

Torres also reported that in the area of the Agila Division, the 17 guerilla fronts in 2016 have been reduced to just six.

In terms of affected villages, the number sharply dropped from 193 in 2016 to just 12 this year while the number of firearms used by the NPA was reduced from 1,150 five years ago to just 300 now.

Eastern Mindanao Command head, Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol, who also attended the event, said they will neutralize the remaining members of threat groups before the end of the term of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We are confident that the LGUs (local government units) and government agencies will sustainably address the issues being exploited by the CTGs. I believe that the only way we can end local communist armed conflict is through our collective efforts and performing our mandates religiously," Almerol said.

Castillo said the root cause of insurgency is poverty and it must be addressed based on the blueprint of the NTF-ELCAC.

"There is a chain that binds them to poverty. We should address the primary economic needs of farmers and we base that on EO 70,” she said

Ramos noted the CPP is imploding and lacks direction.

"It's about mental health, lack of collective efforts within the party, and trust on the struggle," she said. “It’s time to take care of myself and of course, give time to my family. We will continue fighting for rights and our ideologies.”

The root cause of the insurgency is poverty therefore the government needs to "address the primary economic needs of farmers." You know what they are saying here? They are saying FARMERS fill up the ranks of the insurgency! And here I thought the NPA was bursting with students turned human rights activists after being deceived by their Marxist professors at the University of the Philippines.

Youth groups have joined the government's fight to end insurgency by forming the Supreme Student Council Society of the Philippines (SSCSP).

In Monday's "Tagged: Debunking Lies" weekly online press conference, young leaders nationwide lamented how the youth’s potentials are wasted once they get involved with organizations connected with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

For the past few yearsang nagiging main recruitment talaga ng mga communist terrorist group is mga universities So, kami ngayon ang haharap sa mga universities para himukin lahat ng mga kabataan na makiisa sa Supreme Student Council Society of the Philippines (Universities have become the main recruitment center of communist terrorist groups. We take it as our duty to go into universities to influence the students to join our group),” SSCSP vice president Kim Soguilon said.

Youth for Peace and Development Movement Philippines national president Alexis Micutuan said his group’s mission is to produce empowered and peace-loving leaders equipped with leadership, knowledge and skills, and passion for volunteerism.

“We have been doing peace dialogues with different secondary schools in our provinces and municipalities to inform the youth on the recruitment process of the left-leaning groups so that they will be aware and they can protect themselves against being recruited,” he said.

If universities are now "the main recruitment center of communist terrorist groups" then poverty is not the root cause of the insurgency and farmers are not to blame. So, what is the root cause of the insurgency? Maybe it's driven by bored and lonely housewives or feminists who need an outlet to smash the patriarchy. In that case  send out the female celebrities and beauty queens.

Filipino women should lead the way in keeping their families intact as communist terrorist groups try to destroy the most basic unit of society.

During the weekly press conference of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) on Monday, members of the newly formed women’s group Magdalena Mission: Alagang Ate said they want to help mold the future generation of home builders.

The group is composed of celebrities, beauty queens, educators, and other empowered women, formed amid the Covid-19 pandemic to protect human rights and advance women’s welfare.

Pia Morato, a journalist, educator, and one of the convenors, said they aim to help shape the future of the younger generation.

We have under attack the most basic unit in our society which is the family. Let’s face it. That is what insurgents often hit, the most basic unit. You destroy that, you destroy society,” Morato said.

Just imagine all these "empowered women" fighting the communists. And when did the CPP-NPA become anti-family? What document have they published advocating the destruction of the family? This appears to be a new line of propaganda from the government.

Aside from being anti-development, the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) is also against the community and family, and will do everything it can to break up these bonds.

This, according to National Security Adviser, Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr., during an interview with the Cabinet Report program hosted by President Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Aug. 20.

"(You know, the NPA, I can say that they are anti-family, not only that they try to separate the association of farmers, association of women, association of the youth. They are breaking up the family, they have a hatred for the family. They don't want the children obeying their parents)," he added.

Esperon, who is National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) vice-chairperson, cited the case of Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Eufemia Cullamat, who he claimed continue to recruit Indigenous Peoples (IP) into the NPA despite having her daughter killed in an encounter with military troops in  Barangay San Isidro, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur on November 28.

"(What she does is  continue to convince or recruit IPs in Surigao to join the NPA. This is strange. Her daughter was killed in an encounter, I was saddened by the fact that her daughter was killed and yet she seems not to have visited [wake])," he added.

Earlier, Presidential Human Rights Committee Secretariat Executive Director, Undersecretary Severo Catura, said the destruction of families, especially those of IPs, due to communist terrorist recruitment and radicalization, is the reason why the government is pushing hard to end the threat posed by the CPP-NPA.

"This destruction of our families is actually what drives the state, our government to end the local communist armed conflict because it will always be our responsibility to quell all continuing threats to the right to life, liberty, and security of persons, especially of our children in IP communities," added Catura, who is also NTF-ELCAC spokesperson for international affairs, peace process, and human rights concerns, said.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Esperon said the CPP-NPA uses hatred to fuel anger and agitate their recruits against the government.

In fanning hated among their new recruits, communist terrorists would usually use the narratives on the lack of development and poverty experienced by these individuals and their families.

He also slammed CPP founding chair Jose Maria "Joma" Sison and other NPA leaders for living a luxurious life in Europe with the funds extorted by their NPA guerrillas.

"(There a lot of funds being collected by the NPA but who benefits? The likes of Jose Maria Sison, who is now living a good life in Europe, some of them even have their children studying in universities abroad)," he added.

Not only is the CPP-NPA anti-family but they have a "hatred for the family." It's good propaganda but what is their source? That the NPA tries to recruit people? The AFP and PNP recruits people who are forced to be obedient not to their parents but to the hierarchy. That goes for any organization. The CPP does not appear to have any specific statement concerning families on their web page but in their program the CASER (Comprehensive Agreement on Social and Economic Reforms) there is much pro-family sentiment.

Section 5. The Parties shall provide extensive social welfare programs for street children. These include, but are not limited to, addressing the economic needs of the parents and family members, providing conditions for their proper care and development, rehabilitation services, education and training, and the like.

Perhaps they mean the CPP-NPA hates the families because they employ child soldiers?

The troops of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division encountered CPP-NPA Terrorists (NPAs) today at a forested area in Brgy Mabuhay, San Fernando, Bukidnon. The incident resulted in the killing of 4 NPAs, the capture of 9 other NPAs including a 12-year old child-soldier, and the seizure of 16 high-powered firearms.

In response to information from residents that a group of NPAs is on recruitment and extortion activities at their community, the elements of 88IB under the operational control of the 403rd Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division immediately conducted strike operations to protect the populace in the said area from NPA atrocities. The troops subsequently encountered more or less 20 NPAs under alias MIGZ, Front Secretary, Guerilla Front Malayag of the Sub Regional Committee 2 (SRC2) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (MRC).

Maj. Gen. Romeo S Brawner Jr., Commander of the 4ID, disclosed that a 1-hour running gun battle ensued around 8 o’clock in the morning that initially resulted in the seizure of 3 AK47 Rifles, 4 M16 Rifles and 1 M203 Grenade Launcher, the killing of 4 unidentified NPAs, and capture of 2 others.

It is a running gun battle wherein our troops were eventually chasing after the NPAs who are scampering towards different directions after the initial firefight. With the persistence of our troops during pursuit operation, they were able to subsequently capture another 7 NPAs including the 12-year old child-soldier, and seized another 8 high-powered firearms composed of 2 AK47 Rifles, 3 M16 Rifles, 1 M14 Rifle, and 2 M653 Rifles. The pursuit operations are still ongoing”, Maj. Gen. Brawner Jr. said.

Maj. Gen. Brawner Jr. also conveyed his sincerest condolences to the families of the dead NPAs. He added that the tragic demise of the said NPAs and the recruitment of a 12-year-old minor is a manifestation of the futility of the armed struggle. The series of victories against the NPAs this past weeks, he said, is a testament of the people’s trust and confidence in our soldiers.

Just what was that 12 year old child doing with the NPA and how did he get there? Was one of his parents an NPA terrorist? Could be. Th armed struggle is certainly futile. It has been 50 years and the CPP-NPA has no real gains to speak of. They hold no territory and their leaders are in jail or in exile. It may take another 50 years but they will fall.

More former top-ranking cadres of the New People’s Army (NPA) have exposed the lies and deceit committed by the communist terrorist group (CTG) in their “tell-all” to the public during a virtual press briefing on Tuesday.

Roberto Rosete Jr., alias Ka Bobby, who spent 32 years of his life in the communist movement, eventually becoming the commanding officer of the Pulang Bagani Command 3, said the claim of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) - NPA of winning the war against the government is a lie, realizing that there is no chance of winning its revolutionary war.

“I became a member of the Southern Mindanao Regional Command in 1990. In 2010, I already doubted the direction we are taking because nothing has really happened in waging war with the government. They said we will win against the government. It is not true at all because we really can’t,” Rosete said.

He recalled that he wanted to return to the fold of the law in 2010 but was afraid to make a move because his comrades said he would be executed by the military.

“When I surrendered in August 2018, everything I thought about the government has changed. I was fooled by their lies. I should have surrendered earlier,” Rosete added.

Kurt Russel Sosa, alias Ka Ugnay, a former political instructor of the Weakened Guerilla Front (WGF) 3, Sub-Regional Committee 4 (SRC) - SMRC said he surrendered because he was fed up with the group's lies and deceit.

“The moment I surrendered, I realized that there are plenty of ways to help the people, contrary to the ideologies taught to us. They made us believe that only armed struggle is the solution to solve the difficulties experienced by the Filipinos,” Sosa said.

Joy James Saguino, alias Amihan, deputy secretary of SRC1, said he was enlightened about the government's efforts in solving various issues through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

We, the former rebels are in full support to the NTF-ELCAC. The trend of mass surrender is a strong manifestation of the impact of EO 70. The reason I get back to Davao to surrender and help the government is that I see the preciseness or the right path taken by the government to solve communist insurgency,” he said.

Amihan was impressed by EO 70 for clearly recognizing the root cause of the armed conflict that encompasses political, social, historical, and economic issues.

“Finally, the government has seen the causes and how this insurgency should be addressed. The national peace framework enlightens and inspires me that combat operations are not a solution to solve insurgency problems,” he said.

"This has not happened in history in any counter-insurgency campaign. This only (happened) under the Duterte administration. The NPA lost its space on combat operations, as well as their mass bases."

It's funny how this former rebel is now praising the Duterte administration. Why would he do that? It's no wonder he is "in full support to the NTF-ELCAC" which gives all surrendering rebels a lovely bribery package including housing, job training, and cash. Otherwise both Joy James and Ka Bobby who spent 32 years in the NPA would be dead. In a just and sane world they would be dead. But this is not a just and sane world. This is the Philippines.
