Insurgency: Holiday Gift for Rebels

The CPP's 56th anniversary has come and gone. During the festivities the PNP and AFP were on high alert for any tactical offenses. The Army says nothing happened and it was "generally peaceful on the ground."

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2018796/cpps-56th-anniversary-generally-peaceful-on-the-ground-army

The Communist Party of the Philippines’ (CPP) commemoration of its 56th anniversary on Thursday was “generally peaceful on the ground,” the Philippine Army declared Thursday.

Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala, however, reiterated that their troops would remain on alert.

“We have not recorded any incidents,” Dema-ala told INQUIRER.net, adding: “But all our troops remain on the alert and the internal security operations are continuous to ensure peaceful communities.”

Throught the past two years the AFP has repeated the claim that the CPP-NPA cannot carry out tactical offenses or even recruit because of a lack of leadership. Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Jefferson Mariano says that the NPA is incapable of launching attacks in the Eastern Visayas.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1240492

The Philippine Army in Eastern Visayas is confident that the New People’s Army (NPA) is no longer capable of launching major attacks during its founding anniversary due to losses this year.

Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Jefferson Mariano said in a phone interview Tuesday that military operations have thwarted plans of the NPA to conduct violent attacks in time for their 56th founding anniversary on December 26.

“They are no longer capable of conducting major attacks, but of course, we should stay vigilant despite their losses since they will find ways to commit atrocities,” Mariano told the Philippine News Agency.

He said the Philippine Army in the region achieved significant success in 2024, delivering decisive blows against the Communist Party of the Philippines (NPA).

From January to the third week of December, troops engaged in 93 armed encounters across the region.

These operations resulted in the neutralization of 41 communist group members, two of whom are considered high-value individuals and six are key leaders, the recovery of 75 firearms, 48 banned anti-personnel mines, and the seizure of 143 NPA lairs.

The high-value individuals were identified as Ariel Baselga, alias Ariel, the secretary of NPA sub-regional committee (SRC) Emporium neutralized on Dec. 2, in a clash in Paco village, Las Navas, Northern Samar; and alias Ruby, secretary of SRC Sesame, who surrendered to the 78th Infantry Battalion on Nov. 29.

Mariano said one of the significant accomplishments in 2024 is the dismantling of the Apoy and Bugsok platoons under the NPA’s Eastern Visayas regional party committee based in the boundaries of Samar and Eastern Samar provinces.

The said groups perpetrated numerous atrocities in the region, including the Dec. 13, 2019 ambush in Borongan City that killed a police officer, three civilians, and wounded 12 others, including three minors.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division, commended the troops for their outstanding performance.

“These successful operations highlight our unyielding commitment in preventing NPA atrocities and maintaining peace in the region,” Orio said. “We also recognize the vital cooperation of partner stakeholders and the civilian population in achieving these milestones.”

The 8th Infantry Division continues to encourage the remaining 119 NPA members in the region to surrender peacefully, emphasizing dialogue and reconciliation over conflict.

Nevertheless the AFP remains "vigilant" as the NPA "will find ways to commit atrocities."

These warnings and claims of incapability contradict official statements from the CPP who has directed the NPA to launch attacks during the 56th anniversary.

https://philippinerevolution.nu/statements/on-56th-anniversary-cpp-directs-npa-to-advance-revolutionary-war/

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines has directed its entire membership and the New People’s Army to frustrate the AFP’s all-out war in a statement issued today, December 26, to mark its 56th founding anniversary.

“We are determined to frustrate the enemy’s all-out war, recover from our losses, gain new victories and advance the Filipino people’s revolutionary resistance,” it declared. The Party credited the ongoing internal rectification movement for its current strength in overcoming errors and shortcomings in the past years.

Earlier, the CPP belied the AFP’s claims that the NPA is down to “one weakened front.” While acknowledging “grave losses and reversals in some regions and guerilla fronts,” the Central Committee said NPA units have “quickly reorganized and redeployed in line with the rectification movement” and have made gains in recovering and expanding the mass base.

The CPP said that guerrilla units of the NPA are now “creatively and wisely exercising flexibility,” and frustrating much of the enemy’s strategy of gradual constriction and sustained military operations.

“The Party’s rectification movement has inspired the Red fighters of the New People’s Army to persevere along the arduous path of the protracted people’s war to rebuild and expand the mass base, defend the people against state terrorism, preserve and strengthen the NPA, and frustrate the enemy’s strategic offensives,” it declared.

It directed the NPA to “take the initiative to mount tactical offensives, selecting targets that it can defeat.” To deepen its ties with the masses, the Party directed the people’s army to “render economic, health and education services to the peasant masses, while guiding them in waging anti-feudal struggles.”

At the same time, the Party called on members to “conscientiously build or rebuild the underground movement” as these are the “ready pool of Party recruits.”

“The underground movement must be expanded in order to help conceal and secure the leading Party cadres and organizers. At the same time, it must carry out widespread revolutionary propaganda to broadcast the call for people’s war to rouse the people to support and join the New People’s Army,” it said.

The full statement can be read here. Is it all just so much bluster? The CPP has issued such statements before and nothing has happened. Did no tactical offenses occur this time because the NPA is unable or due to some other reason?

The 301st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army has been awarded for dismantling the NPA on Panay Island.

The 301st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army was awarded by the Armed Forces of the Philippines for dismantling the New People’s Army in Panay Island.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. awarded the AFP Campaign Streamer to the 301st IBde during the recent 89th anniversary of the AFP in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

“This remarkable achievement is a manifestation of the commitment and dedication of my men on the ground in responding to their call of duty as peacemakers and protectors of the people,” said Brig. Gen. Michael Samson, 301st IBde commander.

The 301st IBde is composed of the 61st Infantry Battalion (IB), the 12th IB, and the 82nd IB, among other units.

They dismantled the NPA Southern Front Committee in Panay Island. It covers the southern portion of Iloilo province and Antique.

The NPA Central Front Committee which covers parts of Capiz, Aklan, and Iloilo was also dismantled.

Take note this does not mean Panay Island is NPA free. It means the fronts have been dismantled and the remaining members are out there somewhere.

The province of Basilan is finally free of Abu Sayyaf after the final four members surrendered.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/27/basilan-asg-free-after-4-remaining-members-surrender

The military has declared the province of Basilan free from the Abu Sayyaf Group following the surrender of the four remaining members and four followers in Barangay Guiong, Sumisip on Thursday.

The surrenderers – Tawakkal Bayali, Abu Bayali, Julhari Bayali, Hasib Tualaran, Yusup Bayali, Marjan Bayali, Makrin Bayali, and Apong Upaman – turned over five high-powered firearms, including an M203 grenade launcher, three M16 rifles, a caliber .30 Carbine rifle, and assorted ammunition.

“We are very thankful and welcome the surrender of the Tawakkal Bayali group. I laud their decision to lay down arms and finally join mainstream society," Brig. Gen. Alvin V. Luzon, commander of the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade, said.

"Your surrender today is not only for you, your families, and your future but also the province of Basilan, paving the way for peace and development. Let us altogether declare that Basilan is now ASG-free.”

Luzon added their surrender was the “best Christmas gift” to the people of Basilan and a major milestone towards lasting peace and progress in the province.

Their surrender was made possible through the combined efforts of the military, Sumisip municipal government, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Basilan.

Sumisip Mayor Jul-Adnan Hataman said their surrender is essential for the town’s goal of achieving lasting peace and opens up opportunities for continuous progress and sustainable development.

The surrenderers are currently under the custody of the Sumisip municipal government and will undergo a social integration program.

The best Christmas gift? Do Muslims celebrate Christmas? Now they can apply for E-CLIP benefits and amnesty.

Amnesty has been granted to rebels of all kinds be they Communists or Muslims. The government is enticing those eligible to apply, calling it a "holiday gift."

The government has urged active and former communist rebels to take advantage of its amnesty offer so they can restart life anew as peaceful and productive citizens.

This developed as the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (Opapru) aims for greater peace gains in 2025.

“Amnesty is today the government’s best gift [to rebels] as it will restore [all] your political and civil rights … Through this mechanism, you can rebuild your life,” said presidential assistant Wilben Mayor, Opapru spokesperson.

Mayor emphasized that if granted, amnesty can restore all suspended or lost civil and political rights resulting from criminal conviction and elimination of all criminal liability for acts covered as some of the most significant impacts on former rebels.

Among the offenses covered under the program include rebellion or insurrection, conspiracy to commit rebellion, sedition, illegal possession of firearms, ammunition or explosives, and relative crimes of rebellion, among others.

“To ensure the holistic transformation of former combatants, President Marcos underscored the importance of granting amnesty as a key component of these efforts,” Mayor said.

Earlier, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. said the government’s amnesty program “is (its) best policy” for dealing with enemies of the state.

Based on the amnesty proclamations, the period for filing applications will close in the first quarter of 2026.

Thought 2026 is a year away it will be here sooner than we think. Time flies fast but some ex-Moro rebels are not flying to apply for amnesty. The government cannot figure out why.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2018053/few-ex-moro-rebels-applied-for-amnesty

Despite an earlier pronouncement by Bangsamoro Interim Chief Ahod Ebrahim that amnesty would provide former combatants a new hope and a new lease on life, only a small number of the 40,000 strong Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have applied for amnesty, according to the National Amnesty Commission (NAC).

NAC said only 344 or a dismal 0.86 percent of the former rebel group’s armed forces already applied for the government’s amnesty program.

“Amnesty is integral to the implementation of the CAB (Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro),” said Cesar Yano, chair of the government peace implementing panel, as it “falls under the component of the confidence-building measures, which is under the normalization track of the CAB.”

Yono was referring to the peace deal the government signed with the MILF in 2014, ending decades of armed conflict and after 17 years of peace negotiations.

In an earlier statement, Ebrahim said granting amnesty to former MILF combatants would allow them to get a new lease in life and seize the opportunity for healing and reconciliation.

“As a party to the peace pact with the [government], our priority is to ensure that the agreements in the CAB are mutually honored, substantially implemented, and timely completed,” Ebrahim said, adding that all the components of the normalization must progress in parallel and commensurate with each other.

But there was no explanation yet as to why thousands of MILF members still failed to apply.

President Marcos signed Proclamation Nos. 405 and 406 in November last year, granting amnesty to MILF and MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front) members, respectively, in line with the CAB’s normalization track.

Ebrahim said it was in line with the administration’s policy of “peace, reconciliation, and unity.”

The explanation is rather easy. First of all the Moro rebels do not trust the National Government. The BARMM is literally a terrorist state within a state. Why bother applying for amnesty when they have the protection of their fellow Muslims within the bounds of their own sovereign territory?

Second of all MILF Chief Murad Ebrahim is on record saying that the MILF has not surrendered

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1162067/milfs-murad-decommissioning-is-not-surrender
“We have not given up on our struggle.”
“We are not surrendering. Decommissioning is not tantamount to surrendering,” said Ebrahim, who is also Chief Minister of the interim Bangsamoro government.
“I would like to emphasize that the decommissioning doesn’t mean we have given up on what we used to fight for,” Ebrahim emphasized.

Why would any MILF rebel apply for amnesty if the MILF has not surrendered? They wouldn't.

Christmas Violence in the Philippines

There is no song that encapsulates the Spirit of Christmas more than Silent Night. The song has lyrics about peace and holiness and stillness because Christ has been born. In the Philippines there is no Silent Night. It's as loud as New Year's with firecrackers scaring the heck out of my dogs. Elsewhere it was a bit more violent.

A Philippine Coast Guard chaplain on his way home after saying three midnight Masses on Christmas Eve felt dizzy and unwell. So, he pulled over to park and sleep. When he awoke at 5 a.m. "his smart watch worn on his wrist, a black tactical bag containing cash amounting to P200,000, cellular phone, personal IDs, and ATM cards were missing."

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/26/chaplain-robbed-while-resting-inside-his-car-in-pasay-city

A Philippine Coast Guard Chaplain who felt dizzy after officiating three midnight masses was robbed while resting inside his car in Pasay City on Dec. 24.

Pasay City Police chief, Col. Samuel Pabonita, identified the victim as alias “Lt. Alvin”, 37, and residing at the Coast Guard Base in Parola Delpan, Tondo, Manila.

Pabonita said the suspect was identified as alias “Joseph”, 20. He was arrested at around 7:00 p.m. at Maginhawa St., Malate, Manila on Dec. 15.

Investigation showed that victim felt dizzy while enroute to his home onboard his pickup truck and decided to park along Roxas Boulevard to rest and sleep.

Upon waking up at 5:00 a.m. on Dec. 24, his smart watch worn on his wrist, a black tactical bag containing cash amounting to P200,000, cellular phone, personal IDs, and ATM cards were missing.

The city police said after the incident was reported, a follow up operation was conducted by reviewing the CCTV footage of the area of the incident, including Barangays 76, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 26 which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Recovered from the him were the victim’s Huawei wristwatch, Huawei cellular phone, P5,100 which is part of the stolen cash, the suspect's black long-sleeved shirt, black and white slippers, and the bicycle used in the crime.

Thank goodness the cops recovered the bicycle used in the crime as well as the criminal's clothes. People say don't blame the victim but why did the chaplain think it was safe to sleep in his car? Did he lock his doors? Were his windows smashed? Did he think to hide his things? Why did he have P200,000 in cash!? So many unanswered questions.

In Caloocan City the solemn Misa De Gallo celebration ended in a brawl. Twice.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/23/simbang-gabi-ends-in-brawl-in-caloocan-city

Nearly 40 individuals engaged in a brawl after a celebration of the Misa De Gallo in Caloocan City last week.

Churchgoers of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish were seen walking along Bautista Avenue in Brgy. 79, Caloocan City last Thursday, Dec. 19, when a Molotov cocktail was suddenly thrown into the ground causing the crowd to panic and run.

A passerby was able to avoid the incendiary device which hit a wall.

Shortly after, other minors joined in on the riot, and objects were seen being thrown between the teen gangs.

According to village chief Ezra Cruz, this is not the first time it has happened in the barangay.

“So, they went to church here... they tease each other and on their way home, they would meet here, and throw objects here,” he said.

One of the minors involved in the rumble said the other group wants to beat up one of their peers after mass.

“We were just attending mass and they didn’t seem to like us. What happened was they wanted to beat up one of our peers,” he said.

“We only defended ourselves, they started it” he added.

According to the barangay, police officers, and tanods who were patrolling the area that night, the rioters waited for them to pass by before causing trouble.

After the incident, the barangay doubled its presence.

The Northern Police District (NPD) also deployed personnel near churches in the area.

“We have police officers deployed in case of a riot or disturbance [so they can] respond immediately," NPD's Chief Public Information Officer Lt. Gladys Co said.

Last week, another riot involving minors was reported in the city after churchgoers from San Roque Cathedral gathered in Barangay 13 after a disagreement with the group. Almost 10 individuals were identified to be involved.

Molotov cocktails? Merry Christmas indeed.

In another brawl a teenager was stabbed dead.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/25/teenager-stabbed-dead-in-christmas-eve-brawl

A 16-year-old teenager was stabbed dead and his companion was injured during a Christmas Eve youth club party brawl in Barangay District here.

Police identified the fatality as Denver Rivera.

Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect John and the victim’s companion Ericson Datinguinoo, 24, were attending the party when a heated argument erupted and resulted into a fist fight around 3 a.m.

The suspect drew a cutter knife and stabbed Datinguinoo in the back.

Rivera and friends arrived to pacify the commotion but the suspect suddenly stabbed him in the chest.

He was taken to the Batangas Provincial Hospital here where he was declared dead. Datinguinoo was sent to the Lemery Doctor’s Medical Hospital.

The suspect fled on foot towards the direction of Taal town.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation.

Maybe 16-year-olds should not be given a place to party util 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve or any eve.

One family had the gift of violence bought directly to them as their patriarch was shot dead in front of their eyes.

https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/614058/dalaguete-shooting-man-killed-in-front-of-family-on-christmas-eve

A farmer and his family from Dalaguete town, southern Cebu were patiently waiting for the clock to strike twelve on Christmas Day when two unidentified men barged in and killed the family’s patriarch.

After witnessing her husband’s killing, the victim’s terrified wife laid his body next to her and their kids and slept until Christmas morning.

The fatal Dalaguete shooting incident happened in Sitio Bantolayan, Brgy. Dumalan on Tuesday evening, December 24.

However, it was only reported to local police on Wednesday morning, December 25.

The deceased victim was identified as 43-year-old Loudeseso Sanoy Amaba, a farmer and resident of the barangay.

Amaba lived in a hut in the mountain barangay with his wife and their four kids, aged 8, 6, 4, and 2.

According to police, the victim was lying on a folding bed while his wife and children were sleeping on their bed on the night of the incident.

One hour before Christmas Day arrived, two men with cloths covering their faces reportedly barged inside the house, startling the family awake.

The assailants, armed with an unknown caliber of firearms, allegedly shot Amaba multiple times on his head, stomach, and shoulder. He died on the spot.

All of this was witnessed by Amaba’s wife and children, who were spared by the assailants and were left unharmed.

After Amaba collapsed on the ground, the assailants hurriedly escaped on foot.

Terrified for the safety of the children, the victim’s wife did not dare to go out during the night as the nearest other house was around one kilometer away.

After managing to get the kids to sleep, the wife then took her husband’s dead body and laid it next to them while waiting for morning to come.

At around 9:20 a.m. on the next day, the wife was able to seek help and report the Dalaguete shooting incident to local police.

During the assessment of the crime scene, police officers recovered two pieces of empty cartridges believed to be of a .45 caliber pistol and one slug of an unknown caliber of firearm.

According to police, the victim’s wife disclosed that her husband has had arguments with some individuals in the past.

With this information, police are investigating the names that the wife provided them in order to find a lead that could identify the suspects behind the Dalaguete shooting which resulted to Amaba’s untimely demise.

Dalaguete is a first-class municipality located approximately 90 kilometers south of Cebu City.

These people were so scared to go out that they slept with the body next to them and waited to report the crime in the morning.

A girl who had been out caroling accepted a ride home from two young men on their motorcycle. She ended up being raped.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/27/teenage-girl-raped-on-christmas-eve
A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Baywalk here on Christmas Eve.

Police Lt. Col. Amor Mio Somine, Lingayen chief of police, said that the incident happened at around 10 p.m.

Somine said the victim was on her way home with two friends after caroling when two young men offered to drive her home on a motorcycle.

The victim was left with another friend and the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Roniel, and the victim were left behind and instead of being transported home, she was taken to the seaside where she was raped.

The suspect received a call from a friend who said the victim was his relative. The suspect brought the victim home.

Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil of Lingayen issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the suspect to surrender.

The girl and the suspect are related but it's not clear how.

Two people were wounded and 4 hurt in a Christmas Eve shooting in Quirino.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/24/2-dead-4-hurt-in-christmas-eve-shooting

Gunmen shot and killed two persons and wounded four others in a compound in Barangay Villa Norte here on Christmas Eve.

Police identified the fatalities as Crisel P. Cayong, 26; and Ej Rodriguez, 19.

Wounded were  Kesha, 19; June Dave, 26; Edward, 26; and Mike, 23.

The suspects were identified as Dave, assigned to the RMFB-15, PRO-Cordillera; Mark, 35; Waller, 31; Tirio, 61; Ramil, 19; Camilo, 56; Wyfred, 36; Jay- R, 38; Afran, 21, and  Tukuwhile Hudson, 23.

The suspects, except for Hudson, were apprehended onboard a getaway in Barangay Palacian, Aglipay, Quirino.

Suspects were brought to the Maddela Police Station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate cases.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.

Is Dave a cop? It sure does seem so.

In a final story there was no violence but the unwrapping of a gift as it were.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2018993/bones-of-salvage-victims-discovered-in-sarangani-on-christmas-day

Bones of alleged salvage victims (Filipino jargon for summary execution of accused criminals) were found buried in a lot in Sarangani province on Wednesday, Dec. 25, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

The PNP-Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said it received information about a suspected burial site at Purok 5, Barangay Baluntay in Alabel town, and promptly launched an operation.

It said law enforcers conducted the verification of the report on Wednesday evening, and eventually, “several skeletal remains were recovered during the operation.”

PNP-CIDG’s Sarangani provincial officer Major Jun Fortunato later told INQUIRER.net via Viber that the human bones belonged to two individuals.

“Law enforcement personnel secured the area and began [the] exhumation with the assistance of forensic experts,” the PNP-CIDG said in a statement Friday.

“The crime scene remains under investigation, and additional updates will be provided as the case progresses,” it added.

PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III said a witness named “Dodong” “tentatively identified” one of the remains as a certain “Jomar.”

Torre added that “Jomar” was a resident of Bentung, Polomok, South Cotabato, who was reported missing for two to three months and was last seen riding a white Rouser motorcycle.

However, Torre clarified that “[t]he identification is subject to confirmation through further forensic analysis.”

Torre also said the investigation will continue to “uncover the truth and uphold the rule of law.”

What a Christmas Day discovery.

Despite all the violence the DILG has hailed the PNP for an incident-free Christmas.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1240642

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) hailed the Philippine National Police (PNP) for a peaceful Christmas celebration.

In a statement Friday, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the PNP’s deployment of some 40,000 police officers in strategic areas resulted in zero untoward incidents on Christmas Eve.

He also supported the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in their non-declaration of suspension of offensive police operations and suspension of offensive military operations.

“As we continue to celebrate this joyful season, I urge the men and women of the PNP to continue its heightened security measures following the declaration of no holiday ceasefire by the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army,” Remulla said.

He assured the public that the DILG, PNP and other law enforcement entities will remain vigilant to protect the public and communities from those who will try to disturb the peace.

“As we face the coming new year, the DILG is with you as we continue our journey toward a truly peaceful, prosperous and progressive New Philippines.”

Incident-free Christmas? What is he referring to? Clearly Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were filled with violence for some people. These are likely not the only incidents of violence that happened. Of course if you repeat a lie long enough it becomes the truth.

Mothers, Don't Let your Children Play in the Street

It's a wonder that thousands of children don't die every single day in the Philippines. The amount of Filipino children left to their own devices to wander the neighborhood and play in the street is rather large. Add to that the many terrible drivers plying the roads and tragedy is just waiting to happen.

Cue this story.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/topstories/metro/931158/2-kids-run-over-by-taxi-in-caloocan-1-dead/story/

Two boys were run over by a taxi while playing in the middle of the road in Barangay 187 in Tala, North Caloocan on Thursday, leaving one of them dead.

According to Darlene Cay’s report on "24 Oras" on Friday, the victims were 5 and 6 years old, and were cousins.

CCTV footage showed that the taxi driver positioned his vehicle as he was about to make a turn to Dalia Street, where the children were playing. It can also be seen in the footage that the driver was signaling from inside the vehicle for the kids to get out of his way.

A girl went to the victims to tell them to get off the road. But before the boys could stand up, the vehicle suddenly moved forward towards the street, running over the children.

Two boys aged 5 and 6 are playing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. A taxi pulls up and signals for the boys to move so he can make a turn. A girl runs up tp the boys, taps them on the shoulders, and tells them to get out of the road. But they don't move. Instead the taxi, rather than making sure the road was clear, pulls forward and runs over the children.

The driver stopped but he did not immediately reverse the taxi as the victims remained pinned under the front wheels.

The 6-year-old victim “JC” was able to crawl away from the taxi, but his 5-year-old cousin “Ismael” was in critical condition. The latter was rushed to the hospital, but he later on died.

“Hinahanap niya papa niya, ‘papa, papa.’ Sabi ko, ‘Anak, papunta si papa,” said Ivy Espina, Ismael’s mother.

(He was looking for his papa as he uttered, ‘papa, papa’. I told him, ‘Son, your papa will arrive soon.’)

“Mga ilang salita lang siya sa akin, sabi niya madilim daw paningin niya, wala raw siyang makita,” said Robert Mangunay, the victim’s father.

(He only had a few words to say to me. He told me that his vision is dark and he cannot see anything.)

The parents said that they were inside their home to repair a washing machine, which is their source of income when the incident happened. They already talked to the taxi driver.

Meanwhile, JC is still in the hospital after suffering broken bones and several bruises.

“Naaawa ako siyempre. Masakit bilang ina na ganun ang nangyari sa anak ko,” said mother Jamaica Pascual.

(I feel sorry for my son. It pains a mother to know that such a thing happened to her child.)

Where were the parents that they couldn't look after these boys? In the house repairing a washing machine. Was there no one to watch the boys? Did they not have a gate or a door that could lock so the boys would not go outside? What's more likely is that these boys are always playing in the middle of the road along with the rest of the neighborhood children. It's no big deal because drivers always look out, right?

The mother's comments are hilarious. She should be pained and ashamed that she allowed her son to play in the middle of the road. She did this to her son. I feel sorry he has a mother such as her.

The taxi driver was brought to the traffic center of North Caloocan, but was released as the families of the victims have yet to file charges against him.

“Nag-insist yung family na mag-desistance kaya walang choice ang investigator natin kundi i-release yung suspect. Kinakailangan kasi ng family yung immediate assistance, kaya siguro nag-decide sila na mag-areglo.” said P/Capt. Nelson Dizon of the Philippine National Police Caloocan North Police Station.

(The family insisted on desisting so the investigator had no choice but to release the suspect. The family could be in need of assistance that’s why they decided to make arrangements with the driver.)

But Ismael’s family said that they would push through with the filing of a case if the driver would not take accountability for the incident.

“Kapag hindi nila inano, hinarap yung problema nila, itutuloy namin yung kaso sa kanila,” said Mangunay.

(If he will not face the problem, we will continue with the filing of the case.)

GMA Integrated News reached out to the taxi driver for comment.

And there it is.

This taxi driver ran over two children, killed one of them, and THE FAMILY HAS TO FILE CHARGES!!! Where is the justice in that? Where is the local prosecutor? Why didn't the cops file homicide charges? Because the family might want to settle with the driver. As long as you pay for the funeral you can get away with vehicular homicide in the Philippines.

True, another story says this:

Cacho, a resident of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, is now under police custody.

Police said appropriate charges will be filed against the taxi driver at Caloocan City Judicial Office.

https://mb.com.ph/2024/12/27/5-year-old-boy-dies-after-being-hit-by-taxi-in-caloocan-1

But the Manila Bulletin story was published 3 hours before the GMA article making it more authoritative.

This is just another story highlighting the lack of justice in the Philippines as well as the lack of good parenting.

The God Culture: The Mystery of the Three Kings Book Review, Part 4: The Prophecy of Messiah's Star

Timothy Jay Schwab who is The God Culture devotes a whole chapter in his new book The Mystery of the Three Kings to analyzing different prophecies from the Bible and elsewhere about Jesus being a star. That is because according to Revelation of the Magi The Star of Bethlehem was actually Jesus Christ.

pg. 130

Tim begins this chapter by noting the Philippines celebrates Christmas during the -ber months or from September to December.
In fact, one must wonder why the Philippines has the longest celebration on Earth for Messiah’s birth. That, also, is not Catholic. They begin their season in September and end with the birth of Messiah three months later. The culmination is Three Kings’ Day or Epiphany. Sure, the Catholic Church injected the occult Christmas at the wrong time of year, with the wrong Magi, and the wrong Jesus (Yahusha). They add even occult elements far from scripture in embellishment.

In our chapter titled When Was Jesus Born? (10), we will lay out the timeline Luke especially preserves for Messiah’s birth on the Bible Feast of Shavuot in June, nowhere near December. His death and resurrection were during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The logical reason for the precedence of three months is this Feast cycle. Jesus (Yahusha) was put to death on the First Day of Unleavened Bread in Abib (March-April). He was born on Shavuot in June (See Chapter 10). That is a long celebration in which He embedded Himself in the Biblical Feasts. This practice can never pass away, and does not in any scripture. Even Paul kept these Feasts in the New Testament which he preached as well.

In the Magi Isles, the Catholic Church (the captor who conquered them), obviously took the three-month observance and moved it to the occult Christmas (formerly known as Saturnalia), the birth of His enemy and the sun god of many names (such as Mithra).

pg. 131

Right away Tim presents conjecture as fact. Where is there any evidence Filipinos had four months of celebration from March to June before the Spanish arrived? Where is there any evidence such a festival season was moved by the Catholic Church to September through December? Tim gives none. He simply states it as a fact calling it obvious. Well, it's not obvious and he needs to prove his claims.

It is very clear in Revelation of the Magi that Jesus Christ is the Star that appeared to the Wise Men. The Star appears to them in the Cave of Treasures and speaks to them.

13:10 And I am everywhere, because I am a ray of light whose light has shone in this world from the majesty of my Father, who has sent me to fulfill everything that was spoken about me in the entire world and in every land by unspeakable mysteries, and to accomplish the commandment of my glorious Father, who by the prophets preached about me to the contentious house, in the same way as for you, as befits your faith, it was revealed to you about me.

This is a very problematic verse which Tim has nothing to say about. Here is the footnote from Brent Landau.

This sentence contains an intriguing theological concept: that Christ is the underlying reality of all systems of religious belief in the world. Although other early Christian writings admit the possibility of revelation through non-Christian channels (e.g., Acts 14:15-17, 17:22-31), the RevMagi demonstrates a novel “theology of world religions,” the precise form of which is found nowhere else, to my knowledge, in ancient Christian sources.

Revelation of the Magi states in no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ is the source of all religious belief in the world and not just in Israel. Such a claim is to be found nowhere else in ancient Christian sources or in the Bible. The Magi say they were sent because Jesus has worshippers in every country.

17:5 And he commanded us in a great vision to come to this land to worship him in reverence because he has worshippers in every country.

This ecumenism is simply not true. While there are worshippers of Jesus Christ in every country today such was not the case in the time of the Magi. The Lord is very clear that of all the families on the earth he only knew Israel.

Amos 3:2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth

It is quite telling that Tim has nothing to say about verses 13:10 and 17:5 and claims there is nothing bothersome in the text. He should be very bothered about those verses and the doctrine they teach. Despite this terrible and heretical theology unbothered Tim says Revelation of the Magi is inspired and espouses good theology.

Enter Revelation of the Magi from the Vatican Library, translated into English and published in 2010 by Brent Landau. Notice how this text explains Matthew and brings clarity to this entire account. That is what inspired documents do and when they do, they prove to be inspired. One does not have to add this to the Canon, but we should all be aware of the information in geography and all the many holes in Matthew get filled in.

pg. 141

Revelation of the Magi is espousing good theology here.

pg. 149

Tim's claim that the Jesus was prophesied to be an actual star can be written off because Jesus was also prophesied to be a scepter.

Numbers 24:17 A star will come from Jacob, and a scepter will arise from Israel

Tim comments on this verse:

First, in the prophecy of Balaam, the “Him” here is firmly the Messiah to come. We are not unaware of any scholar that would debate that. Balaam can see Him prophetically in the future, not in his time and he beholds him far away from himself as a Star, literally.

pg. 132

Balaam spoke of a star and a scepter. If Jesus is literally a star then what about the scepter? What about the "will come from Jacob" part? It's pretty clear star and scepter as applied to Jesus Christ are metaphorical for greatness and authority. Matthew Henry comments:

He shall come out of Jacob, and Israel, as a Star and a Sceptre; the former denoting his glory and lustre; the latter his power and authority. Christ shall be King, not only of Jacob and Israel, but of all the world; so that all shall be either governed by his golden sceptre, or dashed in pieces by his iron rod.

Tim appears to be unaware that this particular prophecy of Balaam is proof that the Wise Men (Magi) came from Persia.

and that the appearance of a star in Israel was a sign of the Messiah's coming is certain from Matthew 2:1 of which the Magi were informed by Zoroastres (e) their founder, who, being of Jewish extract, had got it from this prophecy of Balaam; and it is as evident that the Jews expected the appearance of an extraordinary star at the time of the Messiah's coming; for so they say more than once, in an ancient book of theirs (f), that when the"Messiah shall be revealed, a bright and shining star shall arise in the east;''which expectation must be founded on this prophecy

Elsewhere Tim says the star appeared as an eagle and this connects it to Philippine prophecy. Discussing The Book of The Bee Tim writes:

The footnote for this point offers another confirmation that scholars knew the Star appeared two years prior to the Wise Men arriving in Jerusalem. They knew this was not actually a Star, as we see them, but far brighter, which is an excerpt in concept from Revelation of the MagiThat further details another point, which also brings attention to the Philippines, as it says the Star appeared in the form of an eagle. That is the national symbol of the Philippines to this day and that eagle appears in prophecy. It is the largest eagle on Earth. Within the Star was the form of a young child, (which is also a direct quote from Revelation of the Magi).

pg. 61

So, now the star was an eagle or in the shape of an eagle? Where is that in Revelation of the Magi? Where is that anywhere? Tim simply grabs on to whatever he thinks will help promote his false cause. In this case a footnote mentions a legend about the star appearing as an eagle, the eagle is associated with the Philippines, the Magi came from the Philippines, therefore it all fits! Leave it to Tim to rely on a footnote rather than finding the reference to which the footnote points.

The fact is the Star Child who appears in Revelation of the Magi and says

"my Father, who has sent me to fulfill everything that was spoken about me in the entire world and in every land by unspeakable mysteries"

is most certainly not Jesus Christ. The only mysteries Jesus fulfilled were those in Israel, the law and the prophets, not those "in the entire world and every land." This heretical doctrine is enough to dismiss Revelation of the Magi as bunk.

In four articles I have now dismantled the arguments Timothy Jay Schwab makes for Revelation of the Magi proving the Magi originated in the Philippines and his arguments that the content of the text is inspired. He is wrong on every count. Perhaps there will be more to say at a later date.
