Its time for another edition of Retards in the Government. This edition features many of the same old faces: Roque, Duterte, Bato, China. But don't fret! The names may remain the same but each incident is wholly unique in its outlandishness and silliness.
PNP officers extorting people and being generally corrupt. Looks like that 100% pay raise to deter corruption did not work. No surprises here.
The EPD had said seeing police officers carrying Bibles and rosaries could stop drug suspects from resisting arrest and just surrender.
But there is no known study, police or whatever, that the Bible or rosary has calming effects on addicts, whose brains, according to President Duterte, have been shrunk by drugs.

US deputy assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement James Walsh said there are encouraging signs that extrajudicial killings in the Philippines are on the wane.
“He shares our perspective that illegal drugs are serious security and public health concerns for all countries, and its complete eradication from the country will require continuous and effective cooperation with our international partners, including the US,” the DFA said, referring to Walsh.
What spin and hypocrisy! James Walsh says EJKs are declining which means he believes there are still EJKs in the drug war while this is something the PNP emphatically denies. There are and have been no EJKs according to the PNP. American assistance to the PNP has also declined and remained that way since alleged abuses of human rights came to light. But the DFA says Walsh and the Philippines are on the same page! And why do they care what some Western kano no-nothing says about the drug war? I thought the Philippines was sailing its own course.
Fixers offering appointment slots also operate outside of the DFA-Aseana in Pasay City, as Investigative Documentaries found out through the use of surveillance video.
The DFA, which is discouraging applicants to avail of the services of fixers, said its campaign against these unauthorized persons selling slots is hindered by the agency's lack of police power.
Lack of police power? But DFA Secretary Cayetano said there were no fixers or syndicates and everything was fixed. They even released 100,000 slots! This agency is definitely corrupt.
Trillanes is a one-note kind of guy. All he talks about is Duterte's bank accounts. He will never ask the Senate to probe the largest terrorist attack in Southeast Asia in 15 years. He will never ask the Senate to probe the Marawi attack so security flaws can be fixed and the Philippines made more secure. This mutineer does not care about the safety of the country.
“It’s going to be a dictatorship,” he added. “It’s the police and the military who will be the backbone. If they agree with you – if the right-thinking policemen and military men agree with you – then after 6 years, there will be a new set-up: maybe a federal type, less corruption, and a fresh air for the next generation.”

"If you say dictator, I am really a dictator. If I don't act (like a) dictator, son of a b****, nothing will happen to this country," the President said in Visayan.
"That's true. If I don't act (like a) dictator, which is my style now, nothing will happen to this country," he added.
"I had to (act like a dictator). Besides, you have chosen me as your president. Why won't you follow me when my dreams are all for you?" he added.
So is he saying he IS a dictator or that he is merely ACTING like a dictator? Is there really a difference?

It's too late for that!
He's got a point. The Duterte administration is reaping the fruits sown by previous administrations. But there are things that could be done like shunning China. Not taking loans. Not inviting them to be a 3rd telecom player. Not seeking an alliance with them.

“The President said that ‘there is only one principle that my presidency will observe and that is what the Constitution mandates me, directs me and orders me.’ That is to serve and protect the people,” Panelo said.
Duterte the avenging angel who only seeks to follow the Constitution yet owns up to acting like, if not actually being, a dictator.
More non-librarians appointed to positions which according to law should only be occupied by librarians. This time its the Mayor of Angeles City who has appointed the wrong person to the job.
The dengevaxia debacle continues to unfold and it looks like officials will face trials over their conduct but the problem here is that the group filing the complaint is the VACC which is a private body which goes around filing cases and doing the job that should be done by the DOJ.
Now that's how you get things done. If you want a special piece of legislation passed simply threaten to resign if it's not passed. Don't worry about feasibility. Just make them do it regardless of the consequences because having your promise carried out haphazardly and all at once is much better than implementing it in a way that is feasible and won't cause a ruckus from teachers or hospital workers or other groups who also want a pay raise.
Who knew the Office of the President had the power and authority to dismiss or admit students to the University of the Philippines? What section of the Constitution is that again?
The administration is lying about what it knew and when? Colour me shocked!
The real problem is Duterte thinks other politicians are just like him; tough talking, foul mouthed rough and tumble dudes who say what's on their mind with no regard for decency. He is also coming across as scared and thin skinned.

That means due to higher excise taxes on sugar to make the product and oil to transport the product Coca-Cola is laying off workers. These unemployed people will be tasting the benefits of the TRAIN law passed by Congress last year.

His promise to end drugs was based on the situation in Davao and not on the national situation. This just proves he is a small time thinker and not the forward thinking powerhouse some would have us to believe.

The PNP is so corrupt that when they reject bribes it's a cause for celebration.
Sanofi Pasteur has agreed to refund the unused doses of dengevaxia but the DOH wants a refund for the used doses as well. This demand has been refused on the basis that a refund “would imply that the vaccine is ineffective, which is not the case.” Indeed the vaccine remains on the market and in use in several other countries and it seems as if it is only the Philippines where hysteria over the vaccine has spread amongst the public. Maybe the problem is not the vaccine but the way it was distributed in the Philippines.
The Sandiganbayan has dismissed a graft case against Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and nine other city officials and employees because of the “inordinate” delay in investigating and resolving the case that reached more than eight years.
Inordinate delay? This case stems from 2008 and I am pretty certain that in this series of posts, "Retards in the Government," I have documented politicians being convicted of corruption for cases stemming form 2007 and 2005.

We were all fooled. We all thought Filipino policy regarding China and the SCS was foolish and weak but really the Philippines was only pretending to be weak when in fact they were leading China all along to develop the islands for them.
