Theological Fails

Theological fails are to be found pretty much everywhere in the Philippines.  From the idolatry of the  Roman Church to the false cults like Mormonism, theological illiteracy abounds. Some of the Mormon converts don't even know Mormon doctrine. I know because I have talked with a few and they only got into it because the Mormons kept coming to the door so they relented or the Mormons bowled them over with kindness and even teaching them a skill like massage. These poor converts have no idea that Mormons believe God is an exalted flesh and blood man and that we can become just like him, i.e. a God.

Here are two theological fails from the Philippines.

Glory to his name aka Down at the Cross. A popular Baptist hymn. You'd think they would get the lyrics right because no doubt they have sung it so many times.

"There to my sin was the blood applied."  WRONG!  The correct lyric is "There to my HEART was the blood applied." How did this typo creep past the editor twice? On the projector and in the church bulletin.

This incorrect lyric caused no small amount of confusion. Everyone paused and stumbled at the word sin. Some kept on singing the correct lyric. Some sang the word sin and you could hear the "record scratch, uh-oh questioning moment" in their voice as they realised the mistake.

The theological fail is that men need a new heart. The Bible says "Circumcise you hearts," "Create in me a clean heart," "Out of the heart cometh all kinds of evils," "as a man thinketh in his heart, so he is," and "the heart is deceitful above all things." Sin is not a thing or substance. It's a breaking of the law, a disposition away from the good, the absence of good. Nothing can be applied to sin because sin is not a thing that needs to be healed. Sin is washed away by the blood when the blood is applied to the heart where it reigns thereby healing the heart.

Many churches in the Philippines use the projector during services and it's not something I like. Especially when the pastor turns his sermon into a power point presentation. The funniest projector typo yet has been the transformation of the lyric "Let angels prostrate fall," from All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name, to "Let angels prostate fall."  Really wish I had been quick enough to snap a picture of that one.

Theological fail number 2:

http://www.interaksyon.com/huwag-tularan-replacing-inri-on-eve-of-human-rights-day-baclaran-church-reminds-that-jesus-was-an-ejk-victim/
There is no official ecclesiastical statement in this article or in any other article I have found concerning this event which states that Jesus was an EJK victim. But I will take the headline at face value and run with it.

How would it make any theological sense to say that Jesus was an EJK victim? Stop the killings because Jesus was a victim too?  But Jesus came to die.  "For this hour have I come," He prayed in the Garden of Gesthemane.  Would the Roman Catholics, the See of Peter, try to prevent the death of Chirst if they had a time machine? Peter himself said, after Christ spoke of his suffering and death, "Lord, this shall not be unto thee" and Jesus replied, "Get thee behind me Satan."

Secondly Jesus was not an EJK victim. He died fully under the law. Let's break out the Nicene Creed. The second section dealing with Jesus.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
Christ was brought before Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herod. He was condemned by Jewish law and died under Roman law. Pontius Pilate, the ruler of Jerusalem, gave a lawful sentence of condemnation and death. The point is not whether it was just or unjust. The point is he did not die outside the law. If Jesus had been an EJK victim then he would have been killed in the Garden of Gethsemane when they came to take him with swords and spears and a great multitude. And let's never forget Christ laid down his life for us. He wasn't killed or murdered. He was sacrificed.  He is the Shepherd who gave his life for the sheep. So basically this stunt is a denial of the sacrifice of Christ for our sins! That is a huge theological fail. It's also a blasphemous denial of the work and person of Jesus Christ.

The Roman Church wants to insert itself into every controversy in this country as if it is speaking from some moral high ground. It's not. Anyone with a brain knows the Roman Church is corrupt to the core. They had better go back to the books and learn their theological ABC's all over again.

Start with the Nicene Creed.

Sugarcane Truck Crash

Not sure about the details of this wreck but given that even big overloaded sugarcane trucks drive too fast it's likely the driver lost control because he was speeding and wobbled over onto his side.  It has been a while since I have seen an overturned sugarcane truck but just because a sugarcane truck falls over on its side on the road and I don't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Actually looking at these photos close-up it seems as if the passenger side wheels came off.  How that would have happened is not very clear to me.  Whatever the case this is why I bring my camera everywhere I go.

Dogs Poisoned and Eaten

Dogs Poisoned in Iloilo town.
http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/11/23/17/several-dogs-poisoned-in-iloilo-town
At least 17 dogs have been poisoned in a subdivision in Pavia, Iloilo after residents complained of being chased by the pets, authorities said Wednesday.
The Pavia Municipal Police Station on Wednesday confirmed the alleged poisoning of several dogs inside the subdivision.
Chief Insp. Fernand Limbunga, Pavia police chief, said the homeowner's association may be behind the poisoning after residents complained that they were being chased by dogs in the village.
“Roderick Panigua, a dog owner, said that he confronted the [village] guard and the guard said they did poison the dogs that night. But when the policemen came, when we interviewed them, they said that they poisoned the dogs last month,” Limbunga said.
In a statement Wednesday, the subdivision’s developer Property Company of Friends Inc. confirmed that 15 dogs have died inside the residential area and said it has begun to conduct an investigation.
"We have taken the steps necessary to investigate the matter and assure the public that we have high regard for the integrity of all forms of life in our community and, in this particular instance, will in no way condone any form of cruelty to animals," the statement read.
Aside from 15 dogs confirmed to have died in the village, two other dead dogs were found by a resident.
Village security guards refused to give a statement.
Nuts!

Pretty crazy.

But what can be expected when people let their dogs run amok? If they don't condone ANY FORM of cruelty to animals then they would make sure residents take care of their dogs.

It's a dogs life in the Philippines.

Ten dogs that were supposed to be transported to and sold in Nueva Ecija were rescued by authorities, GMA News' Emil Sumangil reported on 24 Oras on Monday.
Three people, one of them a minor, were arrested on board a tricycle during the operation by undercover police officers.
According to the report, nine dogs, which were from Bulacan, were placed in a very small cage while one dog was put inside a sack. Initially there were 11 dogs, but one reportedly died.
The suspects were supposed to sell the dogs thrice its price of P500 to illegal dog meat traders in Nueva Ecija.
Disgusting!  These dogs are probably full of worms and other parasites. Their meat would likely sicken anyone who ate it.  Just reading about it makes me sick.

Filipinos do not care about dogs.  It's a fact. A horrible, horrible fact.

And RevGov won't fix that.

Retards in the Government 26

Part 26 of Retards in the Government. Lots of hysteria this week about the dengue vaccine. There will be even more hysteria soon since the PNP has rejoined the war on drugs and the bodies will begin to pile up once more.

Another alleged drug protector.  But there's a twist.
The NBI further recommended to the ombudsman that a corresponding request be made with the US government, through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, “to determine if [Mrs. Garbo] or any member of the family owns a real property in the US and for the eventual forfeiture thereof in favor of the Philippine government.”
They might own real property, land, in the US and if so the NBI wants to know so that the Philippine government can stake a claim on it. It's a land grab in a foreign land!
Despite this coming from the despised UN the Philippine government will likely latch on to this in a sprit of fierce pride. "See, we are a country to look up to for disaster risk management."  All the while forgetting how bumbling and incompetent they really are at disaster risk management. See: Yolanda.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/948797/vice-president-leni-robredo-peace-talks-npa-cpp-ndf-president-rodrigo-duterte
It's things like this, not realising that the CPP-NPA is at war with the Philippines and acting in an appropriate manner, that has allowed the nation to be turned into a field of blood.
Pretty sorry state of affairs when the President has to be asked to categorically state that he won't declare a dictatorship. And what if he said no? Would that really bind him?
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/01/1764247/alvarez-revgov-we-can-sacrifice-congress
Alvarez admits the Congress is completely unnecessary.  It's rare to see this level of honesty from a politician. Why doesn't he quit now if he is so redundant?
Yeah sure its inflation that is keeping all the squatters and jobless ladies with deadbeat husbands and six children poor. Looks like none of that stunning economic growth is trickling down. Not that it ever does. Looks like the Philippines has its own brand of voodoo economics.
Another narco-politician or just a guy who likes to get high and also happens to be an elected official?

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/635381/former-president-aquino-included-in-nbi-probe-into-dengue-vaccine-mess/story/
The hysteria surrounding this vaccine is overwhelming.  Partisan hacks like RJ Nieto and Sass Rogando are working up the people by telling them that the LP has committed genocide by infecting 700,000 children with a deadly vaccine. What happened will come out in the investigation but causing hysteria with bogus and unfounded and overstated claims of genocide will only make the situation worse. It's interesting to watch those two DDS bloggers coordinate even more since they met in November and even visited the Duterte Clan's residence in Davao. It's almost as if they are conspiring to use social media to influence public perception in a certain direction.

Nah, that's crazy.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/949805/972-relieved-caloocan-cops-ready-for-deployment-after-retraining
The retraining program consisted of different modules that included lectures, exams and physical agility tests, he said.
Among the 1,076 Caloocan police who underwent retraining, 104 failed and will undergo the process again.
Rather than throw out the bums who are unqualified the PNP chooses to test and retest and re-retest until they get a passing score. This story of course ties in with the next two stories.
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/05/1765550/duterte-brings-back-pnp-war-drugs
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/950043/calida-duterte-drug-war-killings-death-one-time-big-time-drug-raid
The PDEA will remain the lead agency in the war on drugs but now that the PNP has been told to assist them will there be more dead bodies? Eh, don't worry about it. Especially if the dead are children don't worry. Just turn it into a lighthearted moment. For example if you hear: "PNP kills 12 year old drug addict who pointed a gun at officers," quip to all your friends, "Well at least now he doesn't have to suffer growing up in the Philippines!" Or maybe, "More dead people means more rice to go around!"
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/05/1765513/gadon-given-5-days-explain-senate-bribery-rumor
Whoever is pulling the strings for this particular show is absolutely brilliant.  Casually accusing an unknown someone of offering to bribe Senators to acquit Sereno is a devastating power play.  One it makes all the Senators appear capable of and open to corruption. Why attempt to bribe if no one will bite? Two it virtually guarantees that if the Senate acquits Sereno there will be an impression amongst the public that the proceedings have been corrupted and the verdict has been bought. Thus it will ensure that those who vote against impeachment will be voted out and PDP-Laban can insert their yes men. This is all contingent upon the case even reaching that level.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/950330/duterte-asks-for-another-year-to-annihilate-drug-problem-in-ph-duterte-illegal-drugs-drug-war-pnp-pdea
Back in August he said he could not finish the problem in one term. That it's too big. That he underestimated it. Now he says he can do it in a year. The flip-flop king.

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/12/06/1765852/australia-hits-chinas-activities-south-china-sea-foreign-policy-paper
Leave it to Australia to do what the Philippines should be doing in regards to China's illegal land reclamation activities in the South China Sea.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/950291/breaking-house-speaker-pantaleon-alvarez-lto-assistant-secretary-edgar-galvante-license-plates
Just a hunch but I think the problems plaguing the LTO and the licence plate fiasco go much deeper than one man. Pretty sure this started in the Aquino administration.

https://www.rappler.com/nation/190540-pnp-drug-enforcement-group-deg-body-cameras-god
The journalist who wrote this article is named Rambo!  This is one of those sovereignty of God arguments.  I bet this guy still uses a gun when he is in the field! But God could potentially divert the bullets from the gun that fires at any PNP officer.  David only needed one rock to defeat Goliath.  So the PNP should give up their guns and rely only on the Lord. Some trust in chariots and horses but we will trust in the Lord our God. But then again it is a sin to tempt the Lord so they should use guns and body cameras.

http://business.inquirer.net/242090/lifestyle-check-bayani-h-agabin-revenue-personnel-ray-gilberto-espinosa-public-accountability-transparency-carlos-g-dominguez-iii
“For instance, there is one that we are investigating—in 1996 his annual salary was P80,000, he was able to buy a lot worth P40,000. Then in 1997 he reported that his annual salary was P126,000, he was able to buy a lot for P150,000. His annual salary is not even enough to pay for that lot,” Agabin said.
Has the guy not never heard of buying on credit?  Of getting a loan??

Overloaded Tricycles

Overloaded tricycles are a common sight here in the Philippines. So unsafe. A danger to everyone on the road.

Just another example of the many very deep, intrinsic, and real cultural problems plaguing the Philippines which RevGov won't fix!

Let the People Decide to Declare War

Presenting the first music video from Philippinefails.

Enjoy!

Filipino Shorthand

Filipinos have a peculiarity in their English.  They like to combine words to make short phrases.  Here are a few examples.

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/04/27/1694457/solgen-calida-tadeco-bucor-deal-void
Instead of typing out "Solicitor General" the press calls this guy "SolGen." Sounds funky. Great name for a funk soul band. SoulGen. As in soul generator.

And Bu-Cor?  What the heck is that? That's the Bureau of Corrections.  Tadeco is the Tagum Agricultural Development Corporation.  Quite a mouthful.

How about this one:

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/932902/sogie-equality-bill-outing-gender-identity-emmeline-villar-kaka-bag-ao-geraldine-roman
What is a sogie?  It's nothing. There is no such thing as a sogie. "Sogie" is an acronym which means whoever wrote this article messed up by not capitalising each letter as such: SOGIE.  SOGIE is an acronym for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression.

Chinese bizmen?  Bizmen is not even a word.  What they really mean is Chinese business men.  They could have fit that in the headline if they had decreased the font size. But they didn't so now this news paper looks stupid.

Here's a real testament to how lazy journalists in the Philippines can be.  Compare these two headlines.
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/628553/afp-won-t-be-involved-in-destab-plots-spokesman/story/
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/10/06/1746132/destabilization-plots-wont-come-military-afp-spokesman
What is a destab plot?  Does it involve knives?  Will the AFP be stabbing people to death? Nope.  GMA News was just too lazy to type out the full word: destabilisation. But Philstar did type it out. See? Proper English is not so hard.

How about this one:

http://www.philstar.com/food-and-leisure/2017/11/04/1754276/heres-how-mcdo-made-undas-experience-better
McDo? How is that even pronounced? Long "O" or short "O"? And who orders McDonalds to eat at the cemetery while they are praying for their dead relatives?
http://www.philstar.com/opinion/2017/11/21/1760915/why-i-will-not-run-senator
TRAPOS?  That's a new one. Short for "traditional politician." This is probably the worst one yet. Is this a word to be said out loud in conversation or is it a literary device only?

And now finally the number one shorthand word used all over the Philippines.  It's basically a new word all its own.

Unli.  Short for unlimited this "word" is used mostly by the telecoms to advertise their phone plans but is also used by restaurants to advertise all you can eat or drink deals.

I am sure there are lots more of these shorthand words. This is only a small sample. It's not surprising that Filipinos would take the English language and make it their own. They have also done the same with Spanish. It is interesting and funny how language evolves within a culture. Each culture works out its own creative wordsmithing.
