The Signs of Leni Robredo

The 2016 elections have come and gone. Duterte is president and the Yellow party is out of power.  Leni Robredo lurks in the background with Bongbong Marcos hanging over her head casting a shadow of doubt on the validity of her election to the Vice Presidency.

But something else is hanging.

It's garbage.  Political garbage.

Left over political campaign banners.

After the election the signs stayed up until the elements slowly wore them away. Tied to fences, plastered to electric poles they fluttered and flapped and slowly dissolved. Oh, the wind and rain!

And now here we are over a year later and these Mar/Leni signs are still up!

With all the hatred for Leni going around it's a wonder someone has not torn these down.  Seems like Filipino rage is only for Facebook and not real life.

On Honorary Degrees

The students at the University of the Philippines are outraged that the University has offered to confer an honorary doctorate of law on President Duterte.  Even though the UP has a tradition of conferring every president with this degree the students think tradition should be ignored and the degree withheld because of Duterte's war on drugs.  Luckily for all involved the president has declined the honorary degree.

He explained that he does not accept awards “as a matter of personal and official policy.”
“With due respect to the University of the Philippines, I do not accept (awards). Even when I was mayor, I do not accept (awards),” the President said in an interview in Bohol yesterday. “Wala sa pagkatao ko (It goes against my personality).”
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/04/20/1692071/duterte-declines-honorary-doctorate
Duterte is neither the first to be offered this honorary degree nor is he the first to decline it.
Other former Philippine presidents conferred with the degree were Manuel Quezon (March 16, 1929), Sergio Osmeña (March 25, 1930), Manuel A. Roxas (April 13, 1948), Elpidio Quirino (Feb. 12, 1949), Emilio Aguinaldo (June 12, 1953), Ramon Magsaysay (April 5, 1955), Carlos García (April 7, 1959), Diosdado Macapagal (May 30, 1965), Ferdinand Marcos (May 22, 1966), José Laurel Sr. (April 20, 1969), Corazón Aquino (April 20, 1986), and Fidel Ramos (April 24, 1993).
Estrada and Arroyo were also offered the honorary degree but they turned it down.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/890125/up-offers-honorary-doctorate-degree-to-duterte
It is not true that Duterte does not accept awards.  While he may have rejected the world mayor award in 2014  he did accept the highest honour bestowed by the Knights of Rizal in 2017.

http://news.mb.com.ph/2017/02/25/duterte-receives-highest-knights-of-rizal-award/

Duterte already has a law degree.  What use has he for an honorary version of something he already worked hard for.  But knighthood?  Now who would turn that down?  Even if it doesn't come with a trusty sword and steed and shiny metal armour?

Is it hypocritical that Duterte declined an honorary degree from the University of the Philippines yet he himself created an even more empty and meaningless award to honour those who honour him?

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/04/17/1691158/duterte-creates-order-lapu-lapu-honor-service-his-campaigns

Leni Robredo had no problem accepting an honorary degree nor did anyone raise a fuss.

http://www.rappler.com/newsbreak/inside-track/167390-robredo-honorary-degree-university-saint-anthony-camarines-sur

But really though, how much honour is there in an honorary degree? Here is a list of honorary degrees bestowed upon several celebrities.

  1. Meryl Streep has three Ivy League honorary doctorates.
  2. Ben Affleck was honored with a Doctorate of Fine Arts at Brown University's 2013 commencement.
  3. P. Diddy received an honorary doctorate from the college he dropped out of.
  4. Oprah Winfrey has four honorary doctorates.
  5. J.K. Rowling has earned seven honorary doctorates on two continents.
  6. Alec Baldwin earned an honorary doctorate from his alma mater.
  7. Robert De Niro was was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Bates College
  8. John Legend has two honorary doctorates for his musical talents.
  9. Aretha Franklin reportedly holds some 12 or more honorary degrees, including Doctorates of Music and Arts from Princeton and University of Pennsylvania.
  10. Kanye West was honored with a doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
  11. Dolly Parton was honored with a Doctorate of Humane and Musical Letters from University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
  12. Jon Bon Jovi received an honorary doctorate from Rutgers University this year.
  13. Magic Johnson is the proud recipient of an honorary doctorate in business.
http://www.businessinsider.com/celebrities-who-have-honorary-degrees-2015-8/#yoko-ono-has-three-honorary-doctorates-for-her-activism-17
And that list is not even complete! Lawmakers, actors, singers, musicians, architects, anyone and everyone can and has received an honorary degree.  All you need to do to get one is to be nominated and approved.

Leni Robredo accepted her one honorary degree but what is that to Aretha Franklin's twelve! Somebody needs to show Robredo a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

While Robredo will never be able to compete with the Queen of Soul, having one honorary doctorate puts her in the same category with Kermit the Frog who was awarded an honorary Doctor of Amphibious Letters in 1996.

It's not easy being Yellow.

This is What Foreign Intervention Looks Like

In 2013 the world was up in arms that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons in his war against the rebels.  The world hemmed and hawed and spoke out passionately and said "Something Must be Done" but ultimately did nothing.  Two days ago another alleged chemical attack occurred and this time the United States intervened unilaterally.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/04/06/trump-launches-tomahawk-missile-strikes-after-syria-chemical-attack.html

Let this be a reminder to Leni Robredo that this is what foreign intervention looks like.  You call to them and then they bring out the big guns and shoot you down all in the name of peace and safety and humanity.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/880967/robredo-slams-drug-war-calls-for-intl-scrutiny-on-crackdown-2

What does she seriously expect the international community to do?  There is no talking to Duterte. In very plain, foul, and harsh language he has already told the EU, the UN, and the USA (under Obama) to back off and keep their noses out.  So what other option is left but force?

Robredo, De Lima, Trillanes, the Conference of Bishops, and everyone else who is appealing to the international community for help had better watch out.  They might just get their wish.

What does the EU Know?

Here we go again.  Disgraced Senator Leila De Lima is calling for her release from prison not because she has proved her innocence but because a foreign government body, the European Parliament, knows the truth and stands behind her.

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/04/02/1686967/de-lima-eu-parliament-call-her-release-they-know-truth
Does the EU really know the truth about De Lima?  Did they watch the televised hearings?  Did they see De Lima's theatrics?  Did they watch her not defend herself but instead accuse her accusers of lying and place herself at God's mercy?  Did they watch this brilliant lawyer do everything but make use of the law to refute the charges against her?

No, probably not.

How can the EU know the truth about what is happening in the Philippines when they apparently do not even know what is happening in their front yard?

Does the EU know that Sweden is the rape capital of the world?

https://www.rt.com/uk/378164-farage-trump-rape-sweden/

Does the EU know that Angela Merkel's immigration policies have helped destroy Europe?

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/744955/Angela-Merkel-German-EU-destroy-migration-austerity-Brexit-Italy

Does the EU know that Turkish PM Erdogan has declared that Turks are the future of Europe?

https://www.rt.com/news/381166-erdogan-turks-five-children/

Does the EU know that ISIS is at the door and ready to attack and that they have used the "refugee crisis" to sneak in militants?

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/739078/Europol-terror-threat-Isis-germany-uk-belgium

Does the EU know that there are no-go zones inhabited by Muslims scattered throughout various cites across Europe?

http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/europes-no-go-zones-inside-the-lawless-ghettos-that-breed-and-harbour-terrorists

Does the EU know that Western European culture and heritage is at risk of being destroyed?

http://www.express.co.uk/comment/columnists/leo-mckinstry/617147/Mass-immigration-verge-destroying-Europe

Does the EU know it has forgotten the face of its fathers, despised the blood spilled in the past by Europeans to protect Europe from the Muslims, destroyed its current and future heritage, put its people at risk, and has decided to commit cultural suicide and ethnic genocide? Is the EU so indifferent and blind to the needs of the people of Europe and to the rich cultural heritage of Europe that it would see Europe turn into a caliphate of the Islamic State or as an extension of North Africa and the peoples of Europe be bred out of existence?

How can the EU know anything about what is happening in a tiny island nation 5,000 miles away when it cannot even see or acknowledge the truth of what is happening right in its very front yard?

It is preposterous.

And for De Lima, Robredo, or anyone else to continue to appeal to the effete, weak, and ineffectual EU Parliament as some voice of moral authority when they have wilfully closed their eyes to the destruction their people and culture is the height of blindness and stupidity.

The Difference between Leni and Duterte

The difference between Vice President Robredo and President Duterte is quite simple.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/783152/philippines-president-rodrigo-duterte-threatens-EU-politicians-drugs-war

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-philippines-drugs-robredo-idUSKBN16M0WM

Get the picture?

The difference lies in strength of will both politically and morally.

Duterte sees the Philippines as a sovereign nation of which he is the head. As the head he sees it as his bounden duty and right to direct the nation in a way that is conducive to the good of the people according to the principles of the constitution which was voted on by the people.

Robredo sees the Philippines as a weak nation not capable of handling its own affairs but in need of foreign intervention. She fails to realise that, as the bearer of the second highest office in the land, she is part of the political system and she has both the power and the duty to work within that system for the change she sees fit for the good of the nation.

EJK's or not. Drug war or not. The fact is the Philippines is a sovereign nation that should be able to handle its own affairs without any need for foreign intervention.

Duterte knows this.

The people know this.

Leni Robredo does not.

Leni Robredo hates the Philippines

Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.
John F Kennedy was a politician who embodied the spirit of self-sacrifice for the greater good.  He fought bravely in World War II before serving in the Senate and in 1963 he gave his life while serving his country.

Can the same be said of Leni Robredo? Is she a self-sacrificing politician seeking the greater good of the Philippines?

1. Her constant agitating against the current President shows a disdain for her office and its functions.
MISSION:
As the second highest public office in the land, the Office of the Vice President shall work for the welfare of the Filipino people and contribute to nation-building, economic development and political stability by fostering fidelity to the Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines and upholding the highest standard of professionalism in the civil service.
With her constant agitating against Duterte she is subverting the stated mission of the office of Vice President which is to “work for…political stability.”  Filipinos are deeply divided along party lines and her rhetoric does nothing to encourage unity. Her constant haranguing of the President along party lines is neither professional nor conducive to fostering political stability.

2. Her support of disgraced senator Leila De Lima is in direct contradiction to her executive function as Vice President.
EXECUTIVE FUNCTION:The Vice President is mandated to ensure that laws are faithfully executed.
Leila De Lima has been charged with serious crimes related to drug trafficking. These charges were investigated before the Senate and were broadcast on television before the entire nation. To insist that De Lima is a political prisoner rather than a prisoner duly charged with crimes and to not insist her fellow Yellow Party member keep a low profile and focus on beating these charges is nothing more than an attempt to subvert her duty of seeing that the laws are faithfully executed.

3. Her opposition to the burial of Ferdinand Marcos in the cemetery he is legally entitled to be buried in is also in contradiction to her executive function of seeing that the laws are faithfully executed.  The proper burial of the body of Marcos is also a flashpoint of tension between herself and Duterte.
Robredo, 51, cited the Marcos burial as one issue on which she would be a “stronger voice” now she had quit Duterte’s cabinet.
http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/12/29/16/duterte-leni-joining-anti-marcos-burial-protest-was-last-straw

Think about that. Robredo's stubbornness and defiance over the burial of a dead body is allowing former dictator Marcos to literally continue dictating and dividing the Filipino people from beyond the grave.

Dead dictator dictating from beyond the grave

4. Bringing her opposition to Duterte before the United Nations and airing out the dirty political laundry of the Philippines for all the world to smell is in direct violation of her ceremonial function.
CEREMONIAL FUNCTION:
The Vice President performs ceremonial functions through meetings with representatives of foreign governments. He represents the Philippine government in official gatherings and receives foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, foreign investors, and other foreign officials.
I will not attempt to dissect her video taped speech about EJKs and the drug war. I will refer you here: http://www.manilatimes.net/robredo-lies-world-shames-nation-un-message/

Needless to say she has disgraced herself and the country before the entire world by stating "facts" that are not true and painting a picture of the Philippines that is so bleak that no foreign investor in his right mind would invest in the Philippines. Her video statement to the UN is an admission that the Philippines is weak and cannot reign in the alleged lawlessness of the President on its own without foreign intervention.

Does the Philippines need foreign intervention to handle internal affairs? What other reason besides foreign intervention can there be for Yellow Party members to repeatedly appeal to international law and the international media in their tirades against Duterte?

Does the Philippines need UN peacekeeping troops to stop Duterte?
In short Robredo has not been a faithful representative of the Philippines to either foreign governments or foreign investors.

5. Her constant agitation not just against President Duterte's policies but against him personally shows a complete disdain for the Filipino people who elected him to office.

Duterte was blunt and forceful in laying out his vision for the Philippines during the election.  To think the people were stupid or duped is nonsense.  They knew exactly who they were voting for including allegations of death squads. The president has been elected and the job of the Senate, the House, and the Vice President is not to attempt every play in the book to have him impeached or ousted but to work with him for the good of the Philippines.

This does not mean they must be at 100% agreement with all he is doing.  It means at the barest a seeking after unity, something that Leni Robredo has not sought and that the Yellow Party would avoid at all cost except amongst their own ranks.

6. Leni Robredo made many campaign promises to improve the life of the poor.
a minimum monthly allowance of P2000 for the barangay volunteers who work to maintain the surroundings
scholarships for the laborers’ children, Philhealth coverage, and access to micro-financing - for those who are willing to start their own business
monthly pensions to the elderly who have been serving and volunteering in the barangay for a long time
creating more jobs to give opportunities to poor communities
address malnutrition and hunger by creating a wider variety of feeding programs for children and providing a sustainable lifestyle for the producers

To date she has done nothing to implement these promises. And how could she? Not only has Robredo been too busy fighting Duterte but these are all pie-in-the-sky promises meant only to garner votes!

So is Leni Robredo a self-sacrificing politician seeking the greater good of the Philippines and the Filipino people?  Is she asking what she can do for her country?  The answer is undoubtedly: NO!
