The God Culture: The Earth is Flat But We Aren't Flat-Earthers or Christians

Timothy Jay Schwab of The God Culture is working his way through the book of 1 Enoch in a 52 week series. Like Jubilees he is not going straight through the text but is jumping around. The seventh video in the series covers 1 Enoch 26. This video is very important because in it Tim finally discusses the cosmology of the earth. Pulling no punches he comes out in favor of the flat-earth.

Answers in First Enoch Part 7: Enoch's Middle of the Earth. Exiting Inner Earth

1:17 This video is so important though because we're going to discuss the cosmology of the earth. It's time. There is no reading and understanding the whole of scripture for that matter, but especially Enoch and Jubilees, without understanding that Enoch, Noah, Moses and all the prophets and all the apostles wrote from a perspective of the earth being the center of, what we call the solar system, but of our system. In essence the sun running a circuit around it as well as the moon kind of like the yin and yang in imagery. Right? If you can picture that.

What is the cosmology of the earth and our solar system? According to Enoch the earth is flat, the sun is powered by the wind and moves through portals, and the moon tags along with it. Also there are no planets because the Bible, and especially Enoch who was taken into the heavens to see the cosmos, never mentions any.

It will not be my intention in this article to prove the rotundity of the earth or the distance of the sun or the fact that there are indeed planets. Instead I am going to tear apart Tim's faulty reasoning and straight out lies. Note that for Tim the established heliocentric cosmology is a religion that must be taken on faith.
5:57 Observance tells us the same. we know this with our eyes but we're told to ignore our eyes our scientific observation and accept their spinning ball in faith which is never something they've ever proven. You've never seen the earth move but you see the sun moon and stars move daily. Only in Babylonian style or mystery basically Babylon religion does the sun become the center of the solar system. Yes, they're even carvings on the walls uh in Babylon and Syria that demonstrate that with the nine planets, a solar system. That's their religion that's a religious view it's not science no one has ever seen such.
Why would Tim excoriate anyone for taking anything on faith? Tim's entire project is taken on faith. He never saw the kingdom of Ophir with his eyes or found any evidence of such a kingdom in the Philippines. He never saw Enoch write the book of Enoch yet he claims Enoch is the author. For Tim to bash a view that must be taken on faith is hypocritical.

If the facts that the earth is round and the sun is 93 million miles away are taken on faith it is not an empty faith. It is a faith based on observation, math, and science. The same goes for Tim's project. His faith that the Garden of Eden is buried beneath the floor of the Sulu Sea is based on his reading of Jubilees.

Tim continues by telling us that Enoch, after traveling through the inside of the earth, popped out at the North Pole which is the center of the world.  This in itself is totally wrong. Enoch does not visit the interior of the earth. Tim is completely mangling Enoch 17 through 26 to make it appear like Enoch was taking a guided tour of the bowels of the earth. It's just not true. Enoch visits several places and at no point are we told he entered the interior of the earth.
This longer section of the Enoch saga consists of a series of journeys of the patriarch, accompanied by his angelus interpres, which are a remarkable blend of geographical and botanical fact, based possibly on actual travels in the east (Milik suggests that the author may have been a traveller involved in the trade in aromatics), combined with mythological and apocalyptic fantasy. The result is the second of the most famous of the Enoch traditions the forerunner if not the prototype of Dante's Paradise and Inferno the seer's revelations, in the course of his terrestrial and extra-terrestrial journeys, of the secrets of the heavenly realms and of the nether world, of Hades or Sheol and of Paradise.
Matthew Black, The Book of Enoch p.15
That means everything in this video and in the previous videos are all wrong. There is a visit to Sheol which Enoch sees inside a mountain in chapter 24 but there is no visit to the interior of the earth. This flub makes him give totally zany interpretations. Like in 24:1 where Enoch says he saw "a mountain range of fire which burnt day and night."
These are the Mountains of Fire Noah used on the surface as Shem's SE border in Indonesia. Gunung Gunung Api in Javanese. Enoch views them here from within the Earth.
Get it? Enoch is describing volcanoes as seen from the interior of the Earth. That is stupid and does not convey the proper meaning of the text which is that Enoch saw a mountain range on fire.

According to Tim's interpretation of Enoch there is a huge mountain at the North Pole. Now obviously there is no mountain at the North Pole. But that's because Enoch is describing the world before the flood and now that mountain is submerged. However, the legend of a mountain being at the North Pole survives in a map from 1595.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/Mercator_north_pole_1595.jpg
13:51 Now, this is fascinating. Enoch is in the North Pole and we're going to use the 1595 Mercator map of the arctic which actually matches. Now, this is based on legend, legend passed down from well, likely, what it looks like to us before the flood by enoch in fact as this fits his description but nothing in what we see today when we go to the north pole. it's just not, it doesn't look like this anymore. And don't forget to those same scientists claim the north pole moves around even so no one can find it of course that's their point I guess because that'd be the only dumb reason to say such a stupid thing. Uh, the poll moves every year or whatever really I mean these aren't scientists. That is unscientific Enoch sees this and there I saw a holy mountain. Wow! Okay so, a holy mountain and we're at the North Pole. Hmm.

What is that? Now, you can see the mountain in the center on the screen on Mercator's map. Uh, he's not exact here of course and he's going by, again, ancient legend really. No one saw this after the flood because the North pole no longer looks like this. This was the North Pole before the flood, in Enoch's description before the flood. It's covered with water and ice now so, totally different.
Tim will go on to claim that this mountain is Mt. Zion.
15:40 There are only three holy mountains on Earth especially before the flood. There is Mount Sinai but we all know that's in Saudi Arabia and that's firm so that's ruled out. We aren't there. In fact Enoch will go there next so it cannot be that at all. Then there is the Mount of the East which is in the Garden of Eden in the far east. We are not in the far east yet either because, again, Enoch will go there in a series of directions to the east that's where he'll end up and then he'll go to the edges of the earth really so that can't be it either. Thus logically there's only one left. The only holy mountain is Mount Zion. I know you've heard of the Mount Zion in Israel a mountain named in the days of David actually it appears not Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses nope. David. Not even Joshua. David. That's a long time after so that is because it's named after the heavenly Mount Zion in the North Pole the actual holy mountain. And we'll show you. Again, this is well affirmed in scripture and especially Jubilees but this has to be the holy mountain and it is in the North Pole. There you go.
Not only is this the true original Mt. Zion but this is where Jesus will return.
1:02:22 Yahusha does not come down in Jerusalem Israel but in the North Pole
1:03:42 This is messiah's return mount Zion the one in the end is the one in the north pole not the one in israel
Now, all of that is complete rubbish. The short version why the North Pole is Mt Zion is that in the Book of Jubilees Noah is dividing the earth and he calls Mt. Zion the navel of the earth in 8:19. Because Noah was using Enoch's pre-flood geography to divide the earth Noah knew Mt. Zion was at the North Pole. But in Enoch there is never a mention of Mt. Zion. R.H. Charles' note on the text says this is indeed Mt. Zion but the one in Israel. Saying that the true Mt. Zion is a submerged mountain at the North Pole renders Jubilees 8:19 unintelligible. There is only one Mt. Zion in all of scripture and it's in Israel. This is more proof that Jubilees was written in the 3rd or 2nd century before Christ. I have previously written about this anachronism.

Let me also add that north, south, east, and west are all meaningless on a flat earth model and there would be no such thing as the North Pole. A north pole requires the earth to be round.
geographical pole or geographic pole is either of the two points on Earth where its axis of rotation intersects its surface. The North Pole lies in the Arctic Ocean while the South Pole is in Antarctica. North and South poles are also defined for other planets or satellites in the Solar System, with a North pole being on the same side of the invariable plane as Earth's North pole

The existence of the North Pole presumes the existence of the South Pole and thus a round earth. Tim has really not thought this through.

Tim claims this map is based on the book of Enoch which was passed down as a legend.
19:10 So basically what we see here is Mercator in 1595 it seems, it sure does appear, that he was essentially mapping the legend found in Enoch. Uh, sure they will be, you know. there'll be a claim that, uh, he got it from a sailor and I believe, he, I believe, that is the claim but we're not even going to go back and cover that.
Why would anybody claim Mercator drew his map based on the tales of a sailor when the fact is he got it from a book that is no longer existent titled Inventio Fortuna?

Inventio Fortunata (also Inventio FortunateInventio Fortunat or Inventio Fortunatae), "Fortunate, or fortune-making, discovery", is a lost book, probably dating from the 14th century, containing a description of the North Pole as a magnetic island (the Rupes Nigra) surrounded by a giant whirlpool and four continents. No direct extracts from the document have been discovered, but its influence on the Western idea of the geography of the Arctic region persisted for several centuries.

The concept of the pole as a magnetic mountain goes back at least to Roman times, but the author of Inventio Fortunata added other features to the picture as well as measurements. Whether or not the Inventio is the source of the medieval concept of the North Pole as a magnetic mountain surrounded by a circular continent divided by four powerful rivers, maps as early as Martin Behaim's 1492 globe depict the region in this way.

Gerardus Mercator's world map of 1569 reflects his reading of Cnoyen's Itinerarium. It also features a marginal note alluding to the Franciscan's "discovery", but not to the book itself, which he never saw:

"we have taken [the Arctic geography] from the Itinerium of Jacobus Cnoyen of the Hague, who makes some citations from the Gesta of Arthur of Britain; however, the greater and most important part he learned from a certain priest at the court of the king of Norway in 1364. He was descended in the fifth generation from those whom Arthur had sent to inhabit these lands, and he related that in the year 1360 a certain Minorite, an Englishman from Oxford, a mathematician, went to those islands; and leaving them, advanced still farther by magic arts and mapped out all and measured them by an astrolabe in practically the subjoined figure, as we have learned from Jacobus. The four canals there pictured he said flow with such current to the inner whirlpool, that if vessels once enter they cannot be driven back by wind."
The mountain at the center of the Arctic is not a mountain. It is a magnetic rock island.

The Rupes Nigra ("Black Rock"), a phantom island, is believed to be a 33-mile-wide black rock (Mercator actually describes the rock's circumference as 33 "French" miles) located at the Magnetic North Pole or at the North Pole itself. It purportedly explains why all compasses point to this location. The idea comes from a lost work titled Inventio Fortunata, and the island features on maps from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including those of Gerardus Mercator and his successors. Mercator describes the island in a 1577 letter to John Dee:

In the midst of the four countries is a Whirl-pool, into which there empty these four indrawing Seas which divide the North. And the water rushes round and descends into the Earth just as if one were pouring it through a filter funnel. It is four degrees wide on every side of the Pole, that is to say eight degrees altogether. Except that right under the Pole there lies a bare Rock in the midst of the Sea. Its circumference is almost 33 French miles, and it is all of magnetic Stone [Jacobus Cnoyen] years ago.
Not only does Tim not understand this map but he does not want to understand it. Instead he wishes to twist it to fit his narrative. If Tim had taken the time to actually research this map he would know all the above facts about it. This is just more of his scurrilous and unscrupulous method of twisting whatever he comes across to fit his view.

For a good part of this video Tim pulls up several maps to show that the ancient view of the earth is that it is flat and the North Pole is the center of the earth. You mean to tell me that men who drew maps of the earth on flat surfaces drew them...flat!? I am shocked I tell ya, shocked! The last map he discusses is one drawn by Orlando Ferugson in 1893. Ferguson claims the Bible does not support the idea that the earth is a globe spinning through space and that his map is an accurate representation of what the Bible teaches.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/Orlando-Ferguson-flat-earth-map_edit.jpg

Aside from the globe Earth Ferugson also disbelieved in the existence of other planets. Tim agrees wholeheartedly.
44:26 He notes there are no planets in the bible and that is accurate. He's right. That's true. Not a single other planet is ever mentioned in scripture. It's not there nor is it in Enoch not once and he saw everything. So what does it mean that it's absent? Hmmm.
29:30 No one has ever proven that Jupiter is actually a planet. Just because they show us a representation of an animation of what they think it might possibly look like if they actually could see it and they can't.
If the Bible doesn't mention something then apparently it doesn't exist. So long algebra, auto mechanics, the periodic table, DNA, computers, and Timothy Jay Schwab. You don't exist because the Bible does not mention you. Does Tim even know what a planet is? It's Greek for wandering star (I can just hear him screaming that means Nephilim according to Jude). You can see them travel an irregular path across the sky with the naked eye.
The five classical planets of the Solar System, being visible to the naked eye, have been known since ancient times and have had a significant impact on mythologyreligious cosmology, and ancient astronomy. In ancient times, astronomers noted how certain lights moved across the sky, as opposed to the "fixed stars", which maintained a constant relative position in the sky. Ancient Greeks called these lights πλάνητες ἀστέρες (planētes asteres, "wandering stars") or simply πλανῆται (planētai, "wanderers"), from which today's word "planet" was derived.
You can also use a telescope to view the planets and verify that Juipter is indeed a huge gaseous planet. You can see the rings of Saturn through a telescope with your own eyes just like Galileo did. There are no such thing as planets and Jupiter has never been proven to be a planet are about the most ignorant things Tim says in this video. Here are a few other things Tim says that are just as ignorant.

37:30. We would notice the speed of the earth.

1:08:56 The god they call gravity

1:11:00 There are no pictures of the Earth from space.

1:12:54 Have you ever seen a satellite pass between the moon and earth because they, they, they do supposedly, They're, they're not beyond the moon right so they're in between so shouldn't we cease when we observe some kind of movement there especially and especially with a telescope yet no one has it's another lie

1:15:40 If the sun is 93 million miles away how does it set in front of clouds?
All of that is is easily answered. We don't notice the speed of the earth because of relativity. Same as when you are driving a car you don't feel the speed because you are actually stationary while the car is moving.  Also the speed of the earth's rotation is constant. Gravity is a force not a god and it is what keeps everything on the earth. There are many pictures of earth from space. Satellites pass between the moon and Earth all the time. Watch them do it here. The sun appearing behind clouds is an optical illusion caused at sunset by thin clouds being obscured by bright rays.

The long and short of it is that in this video Timothy Jay Schwab promotes the flat earth and a hodgepodge of junk pseudoscience. According to him it's not only what the Bible teaches but it best explains what we observe. However, despite believing and teaching that the earth is flat Tim says he is no flat earther.
1:20:00 No, we are not flat earthers just as we do not call ourselves the very negative term in the Bible of Christian. No thank you.
Tim is definitely right that he is no Christian. He is a heretic who has long since left the Body of Christ, the Church. But when it comes to being a flat earther, he may choose to not use that term but that is exactly what he is. I mean he actually says Antarctica is an ice wall keeping the ocean from spilling out.

Tradewind: If earth is flat..there should be barriers at d ends, so the water wouldnt spill

The God Culture: It's called Antarctica and the firmament. Yah Bless.
It should be noted that at no time in this video does Tim say bluntly, "The Earth is flat." That is a very sneaky thing to do because throughout this video he teaches the earth is flat!

Retards in the Government 259

It's your weekly compendium of foolishness and corruption in the Philippine government.

A sugar farmer from Negros Occidental has filed graft complaints against officials of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) led by Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica involving the order on the importation of 200,000 metric tons of refined sugar.

Enrique Tayo, chairman of the Negros Occidental Federation of Farmers Association (NOFFA), charged the SRA officials with violation of Republic Act (RA) 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act before the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City on Wednesday.

A copy of the complaint was furnished to reporters on Thursday by the Negros-based Asociacion de Agricultores de la Carlota y Pontevedra Inc. (AALCPI), which also announced that they will join Tayo in the filing of the complaint.

Aside from Serafica, also included as respondents were Deputy Administrator for Regulations Guillermo Tejida III and other SRA officials who “endorsed, approved, aided and abetted in the commission of acts constituting graft and corrupt practices”.

“We will also file graft and corrupt practices cases against industrial users of sugar who conspired with public officers in the commission of these unlawful acts,” AALCPI general manager David Alba said in a statement.

In the first week of May, the United Sugar Producers Federation (UNIFED) called out the SRA and the Department of Agriculture for proceeding with the importation of refined sugar mandated by SO 3 since there is a pending case against such action.

SO 3 allows the importation of 200,000 metric tons of refined sugar for industrial users, mainly major food and beverage manufacturers, between March 1 and May 1, but the sugar producers called it “ill-timed” as it would happen at the peak of the milling season.

“These industrial users will have to temper their corporate greed and instead consider the plight of millions of sugar stakeholders who will be severely affected by the entry of imported sugar,” Alba said.

Officials of the Sugar Regulatory Administration are being accused of graft for allowing the importation of 200,000 MT of sugar which would hurt local farmers and manufacturers.

The mayor of Rosario town in Agusan del Sur is facing a complaint for violating the elections rules after he went to the precincts on the eve of election day and told members of one electoral board to move the vote-counting machine (VCM) near the window of the classroom being used as a voting center.

The camp of former mayor Jose Cuyos Sr. filed the complaint at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office against reelectionist Mayor Jupiter Abulog.

Cuyos, a former three-term mayor, defeated Abulog in the vote.

Former town councilor Menio Orcullo said their supporters have seen Abulog and some town councilors going around the precincts on Friday and the order to move the VCM was witnessed by Lina Bayados, a resident of Purok 4 in Barangay Poblacion.

Orcullo said the mayor’s order was apparently to carry out the so-called “open ballot scheme” whereby voters had to show a particular camp’s watcher to assure that they voted for the candidate giving them money.

A local mayor is facing an election violation complaint for order gin vote counting machines moved close to the window where ballots could be easily observed.

A rifle grenade exploded inside the residential compound of a village official in Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao Sunday evening but no one was hurt, police said.

Lt. Col. Sabri Lakibul, the municipal police chief, said Monday no one claimed responsibility for the explosion in the residential yard of Guiaber Dalindingan, chairman of Barangay Crossing Simuay, Sultan Kudarat town.

However, Dalindingan believed it was related to last week’s national and local elections. He did not elaborate.

A village official's residence was attacked with a grenade.

https://mb.com.ph/2022/05/16/conviction-of-ex-nabcor-president-affirmed/

The Sandiganbayan has affirmed the conviction of the former president of the now defunct National Agribusiness Corporation (NABCOR) for paying P4.7 million to a financial advisor without documentary evidence to support the payment claim.

In a resolution, the anti-graft court denied the motion for reconsideration filed by Honesto F. Baniqued who had been sentenced to a prison term ranging from six to eight years for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

NABCOR was engaged in the production of livestock and agriculture products and was an attached corporation of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The graft charge against Baniqued arose from the hiring of Rodolfo V. Romero as NABCOR’s financial advisor.

The prosecution told the Sandiganbayan that Baniqued allowed the payment of P4.7 million which represented Romero’s 50 percent claim of the stipulated remuneration in the Contract of Service, despite lack of sufficient documentary evidence to support the payment claim.

The conviction of the former NABCOR president for graft has been upheld by the Sandiganbayan.

Seven barangay captains were arrested on Monday over the slander charges filed against them by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, the police said.

Detained at the Criminal Intelligence and Detection Group-Central Visayas (CIDG-7) facility were Eduardo Cuizon (Barangay Bankal), Eleonor Fontanoza (Gun-ob), Regina Ibanez (Looc), Triponia Abayan (Tungasan), Joselito Tibon (Suba-Basbas), Reynaldo Tampus (Canjulao), and Rosalino Abing (Maribago).

Cuizon is also an ex-officio member of the Lapu-Lapu City Council, being the president of the Association of Barangay Council (ABC).

Armed with a warrant of arrest, the joint team from the CIDG-7 and the police station 3 of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office nabbed the barangay captains from their respective places.

Their arrest stemmed from grave oral defamation charges in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, or the CyberCrime Act of 2012, which Chan filed against them in March this year.

Regional Trial Court Branch 53 Judge Anna Marie Militante, who issued the warrant for their arrest, recommended bail of PHP36,000 each.

The village chiefs earlier filed a complaint of malversation of public funds and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act against Chan, members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC), and the winning bidder over the alleged questionable purchases of coronavirus disease 2019 related items that amounted to more than PHP47 million.

Lawyer James Allan Sayson, chair of Lapu-Lapu city government’s BAC, said they included the provisions of cyber libel in the case after the allegation against them was posted on social media.

“The barangay captains willfully and deliberately attacked his reputation by making defamatory utterances, maliciously and with evident ill-will,” Chan said in his complaint.

The village officials alleged that the city government under Chan purchased food items and non-food relief items from a supplier identified as a furniture exporter.

Seven barangay captains have been charged with cyber libel after filing charges agains the Lapu-Lapu City Mayor and posting them on line.

The Supreme Court has admonished a La Union Regional Trial Court judge for posting photos of himself half-dressed and exposing his tattoo art.

In a decision uploaded on May 13, the SC Second Division found Judge Romeo Atillo Jr. guilty of conduct unbecoming of a judge and sternly warned that a repetition of the same shall be dealt with more severely.

The Court reminded the magistrate “to be more circumspect in his professional and personal dealings in social media”.

Atillo claimed that his Facebook account was hacked on Aug. 11, 2019 and his privacy setting was set from private to public.

He also claimed the photos were only meant for him and his friends and not for public viewing.

The Court held that “setting posts or profile details' privacy is no assurance that it can no longer be viewed by another user who is not Facebook friends with the source of the content”.

The Court said all social media users face the same risks when sharing content in cyberspace.

“The Court once again reminds judges to mindful of what they communicate in social networking sites -- regardless of whether it is a personal matter or a part of his or her judicial functions -- as such content indubitably creates and contributes to the public’s perception not only of the concerned judges, but, more importantly, of the Judiciary as a whole,” it said.

Printed copies of photos allegedly posted by Atillo used as “cover photos” and “profile pictures” on Facebook were received by the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA).

The OCA found Atillo guilty of violating the New Code of Judicial Conduct, as well as OCA Circular No. 173-2017 when he posted the subject photos on his Facebook account and recommended a PHP15,000 fine and that he be reprimanded with a stern warning.

The Court adopted the findings of the OCA but modified the penalties.

It agreed with the OCA that Atillo “had breached his duty to avoid impropriety, or even just the appearance of impropriety, when he posted the subject pictures showing his half-dressed body and tattooed torso on his Facebook account that eventually became readily accessible to the general public”.

Citing its 2014 ruling in Lorenzana v. Judge Austria, the Court held that “while judges are not prohibited from becoming members of and from taking part in social networking activities, we remind them that they do not thereby shed off their status as judges”.

In the Lorenzana case, the respondent judge was found guilty of impropriety when she posted photos of herself wearing an “off-shoulder” suggestive dress on a social networking site and made it available for public viewing.

The Court clarified that the impropriety relates solely to the judge's “act of posting the subject picture on social media, and it has absolutely nothing to do with his choice to have tattoos on his body”.

“Simply put, by posting the pictures on Facebook, [the respondent judge] placed himself in a situation where he, and the status he holds as a sitting judge, became the object of the public’s criticism and ridicule,” the SC said.

A picture a judge posted on Facebook brought disgrace to both him and his profession.

https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/442043/rama-warns-lazy-backstabbing-city-hall-employees-officials-i-wont-forget

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he won’t forget the backstabbers in the City Hall who turned against him before he won the May 9, 2022, election.

In his speech during Barug PDP-Laban's victory party, he said that “enough is enough” for employees and officials who are thieves, lazy and incompetent, messy, gossip-mongers, don't pay debts, quarrelsome, and back-stabbers . ”

He said they need to part ways in order to have a more efficient and united City Hall when he starts his official term as elected mayor on June 30, 2022.

In a phone conference on Thursday, May 19, 2022, Rama said that these employees or officials know who they are and they should take note of his words.

“They already know. Those casuals, non-renewal, right job orders, non-renewal. Those regulars, they can be assigned somewhere,” said the mayor.

Rama said he is not inclined to accept them even if they promise to do better or become more efficient in their work as they have lost his trust and confidence.

“If they are right, then can I forget what they did to me? No, not at all, ”he added.

Although the mayor did not specify who these employees and officials are, it is speculated that the mayor is referring to those who acted against him during the height of the election season.

Rama’s ascension to mayorship after the death of Mayor Edgardo Labella in November 2021 had been marred by controversies with the changes of officials and transition of administration.

After winning the 2022 elections, Rama’s proclamation speech highlighted a warning for employees who are dishonest and corrupt as he will not be tolerating shenanigans under his administration.

The newly elected mayor says he will not tolerate those who backstabbed him during the election or any corrupt officials.

Cash aid amounting to P147,000 intended for 35 people was claimed by just one person in Magalang town in Pampanga, contrary to rules set by the Department of Labor and Employment.

This was among the “deficiencies” flagged by the Commission on Audit on Pampanga’s implementation of the DOLE’s one-time cash-for-work program called Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers, which the province got P91.18 million for.

The COA said in its annual audit report that the one person who took the cash aid intended for 35 people should have been personally claimed by the beneficiaries themselves or an immediate family member.

Worse, the COA said only 15 confirmed having received their cash aid, while 10 did not receive any financial assistance. The report is silent on whether the other 10 beneficiaries received aid or not.

State auditors recommended that Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda require the Provincial Treasurer’s Office to ensure that only those authorized by the DOLE can claim financial assistance.

A review by the COA also showed that of the 21,710 beneficiaries in the province, 5,012 have either the same names and birthdates, contact numbers, type of ID or ID numbers. Meanwhile, 850 contact numbers were “not reliable” as they were unreachable or incorrect.

“Thus, it would be difficult to confirm actual receipt by beneficiary of the financial assistance since most of the numbers called belong only to one beneficiary,” state auditors said.

Further, the COA reported that 22 of the beneficiaries denied having received cash aid twice, contrary to what was reported in the master list which claimed that P92,400 was received by those people.

Five beneficiaries told state auditors that they received cash aid twice, resulting in a double payment totalling to P21,000.

“The excessive payments to the beneficiaries due to the lack of control measures in the processing of claims deprived the other qualified applicants who have not availed of any financial assistance,” the COA said.

The COA has documented several irregularities in the DOLE's cash aid program in Pampanga.

The Sandiganbayan anti-graft court has found a former cashier of the Alcala Water District in Pangasinan guilty of malversation.

The Sandiganbayan Sixth Division affirmed the February 22, 2021 decision of the Villasis, Pangasinan Regional Trial Court Branch 50 finding Darwin C. Viloria guilty, sentencing him of up to seven years imprisonment.

The graft court ordered Viloria to pay a fine of PHP163,436, the amount of the malversed funds and PHP155,239 in civil liability to the water district.

The prosecution said Viloria, between 2000 to 2006, misappropriated some PHP163,436.

According to the RTC, the missing funds were “imputable to the accused’s acts of issuing cash advances, not issuing official receipts, and issuing fictitious ones."

The court was not swayed by Viloria's claim that it was his boss, former general manager Elpidio Sacayanan, who instructed him to give the collections as cash advances to him instead of remitting it.

“There is no doubt that accused-appellant was given the opportunity to explain the unremitted collections. However, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the same, and he even admitted his liability for the unremitted collections when he offered to pay the same,” the court said.

A water district cashier has ben convicted of malversation of funds in the amount of 163,436 pesos.

Coronavirus Lockdown: No COVID-19 Deaths for 2 Months, DOH Wary of Surge, and more!

More news about how the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines is being handled by the public and the government.

Despite active COVID-19 cases continuing to dwindle face masks will still be mandated for at least three more months according to one expert.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/topstories/nation/831307/mask-mandate-likely-lifted-in-3-months-time-health-expert/story/

The face mask mandate will most likely be unnecessary if the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the Philippines drops to less than 200 in the next three months, an expert in infectious diseases said Wednesday.

But Dr. Rontgene Solante still pointed out the importance of face mask in preventing the spread of COVID-19, especially the highly contagious Omicron variant.

"And we experienced that we quickly controlled Omicron because of the way we wear the face mask," Solante said at the Laging Handa briefing.

“I think it’s still a bit long. Let’s see in the next two to three months if the number of cases really continues to drop-like less than two hundred-most likely we won’t need a face mask [mandate] anymore, ”he added.

With all the hysteria being pushed by the DOH about the virus it is likely the face mask mandate will be enforced for much longer. And it is hysteria. The recovery rates prove the government is continuing to make much ado about nothing.

This city has registered a 95.6 percent coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recovery rate since the start of the pandemic in 2020, the City Health Office (CHO) said Friday.

Data released by the CHO showed this city recorded 27,881 recoveries to date.

Of the total recoveries, 26,310 are community-related; 416, detainees; 379, locally stranded individuals; 361, authorized persons outside residence; 217, persons deprived of liberty; 89, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel; 72, Bureau of Corrections; 33, returning overseas Filipinos; and, four, returning residents from Malaysia.

Currently, the city has 22 Covid-19 active cases, which according to the CHO, were all acquired through community transmission.

Of the active cases, 44.4 percent are asymptomatic, another 44.4 percent with mild symptoms, and the remaining 11.2 percent manifest moderate symptoms.

The Covid-19 related deaths stood at 1,236 deaths.

The death rate has never been high enough to justify all the extreme measures taken in the name of fighting the virus.

There are still a number of Filipinos who have not been vaccinated. The City of Davao is offering a free kilogram of rice to those who decide to get injected.

https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1928965/davao/local-news/davao-city-to-give-1-kilogram-rice-to-those-who-will-get-vaccinated-vs-covid-19

DABAWENYOS who will get their vaccination against Covid-19 will receive a rice subsidy from the City Government, according to Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser.

In a radio interview on Friday, May 13, Schlosser clarified that those eligible for the rice subsidy are the general public from five to 18 years old and above.

It is also applicable to any vaccine doses, from first dose, second dose, to first booster and second booster dose in all vaccination hubs, whether pediatric or the regular vaccine hubs.

“Naga hatag gyod ta (We are giving) incentives because we wanted to invite them. We want na pag ma-invite sila, ma-educate nato sila and ma-spread nila ang benefits sa bakuna (Once we invite them, we can educate them about the vaccine and in turn, they can tell people about its benefits),” Schlosser said.

Beneficiaries will receive one kilo of rice each, regardless of age or if they belong to the same family or household that has already received a subsidy.

Schlosser said everyone who has yet to get administered with any of the vaccine doses is eligible and entitled to the rice subsidy provided by the city government.

Who knows but a whole kilo of rice might just be enough to persuade people to get vaccinated.

Omicron and its variants have been detected in the country and this has spooked the DOH.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1597719/doh-wary-of-omicron-variant-surge

COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations may peak at higher levels, compared to the Delta and Omicron surges, but the Department of Health (DOH) remained cautious in announcing a local transmission of the new Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 found in two Filipinos without travel history outside the country.

Based on DOH’s projections, the seven-day moving average may reach as high as 7,702 cases and hospital occupancy may go up to 5,512 nationwide in July this year if the variant enters the country.

During the Delta surge in September last year, the one-week average peaked at 5,926 and admissions rose to 4,413.

Intensive care utilization, meanwhile, is seen to jump by more than 70 percent to 1,124 in July this year from the Omicron peak in January when 652 were admitted on a single day.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the Omicron sublineage BA.2.12.1 detected in 14 individuals in Metro Manila and Palawan was found to “most likely exhibit immune evasion,” citing preliminary studies.

The DOH has since reported local transmission of the variant but it remains to be seen what will be the results. Likely the status quo won't change as no variant of COVID-19 has caused a wave of deaths. In fact there have not been any COVID related deaths in Dumaguete City for the past two months.

No deaths related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) were reported in this capital city of Negros Oriental for almost two months already.

The City Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) records showed that the last known Covid-19-related death was of a 94-year-old unvaccinated individual with comorbidities, a media release on Monday evening said.

Dr. Maria Sarah Talla, City Health Officer, said that for about 25 days now, the city’s 30 barangays reported zero cases of Covid-19.

Millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses have expired but COVAX says they will see to it that they are replaced.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1174460

The COVAX Facility has offered to replace with fresh ones expiring coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines, both donated and procured by the government, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said negotiations are underway to replace expiring vaccines with COVAX-donated shots.

"(There's a verbal commitment from COVAX that they can replace not only those that they have donated but also doses we procured and are set to expire)," she said in a “Laging Handa” briefing.

Vergeire said the DOH had complied with the requests made by COVAX, including the use of a "demand forecasting tool" to show the actual number of vaccines in the stockpiles and the doses Manila would still need in the coming months.

"(We're just waiting for their response but they already set a meeting with us by next week)," she said.

The DOH earlier said about 3.6 million coronavirus vaccine doses donated to the Philippines have expired.

COVAX is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines.

Lanao del Sur has enacted its own no vax, no travel policy to encourage the unvaccinated to get the shot.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1174511

Authorities have started a “no vaccination, no travel” policy in Lanao del Sur as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) began Monday its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) special vaccination days (SVDs).

“This is for the protection of everybody. I hope people will cooperate because anywhere you go, a vaccination card is required,” Dr. Alinader Minalang, Lanao del Sur provincial health officer, said in an interview.

Minalang said the initiative is to help convince unvaccinated Maranaos to avail of the health services.

If you still do not cooperate or submit yourselves for vaccination, that is your right. You may skip vaccination in Lanao del Sur but when you go to Davao or Cagayan de Oro, vaccination is required so what do you do?” he said.

If not getting vaccinated is one's right then the government should not be making it difficult for the unvaccinated go about their daily lives.

Vote Buying Leads to Surge in Mobile Phone and Meat Purchases in Surigao del Sur

According to an article in the Daily Inquirer an increase in mobile phone sales in Surigao del Sur is directly tied to vote buying.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1597711/vote-buying-spree-drives-mobile-phone-sales

Mobile phones are selling like hotcakes after the May 9 general elections, thanks to local politics.

For two straight days after the polls, many of the popular mobile phone brands were sold out in the three shopping malls in this province as residents from the neighboring towns of Tagbina, Barobo, and Lianga in Surigao del Sur province went on a shopping frenzy.

They practically stormed the Gaisano Grand Mall, Gaisano Capital, and Davao Central Warehouse on Tuesday and Wednesday, openly joking about their windfall from the vote-buying spree involving some politicians running for congressional and provincial posts.

A salesman at a mobile phone store in Gaisano Grand said his shop sold at least 180 units of Vivo and Real Me brands in the two days following the polls.

He said there were stalls in the mall that also sold mobile phones and which experienced brisk sales until the items ran out of stock.

Mobile phone stores at Gaisano Capital, at Davao Central Warehouse, and at the town center also had a surge in sales.

Most of the brands in demand sold at P6,000 to P7,000 per unit.

Apart from mobile phone stores, other commercial establishments including restaurants became crowded on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Toto Banas, the owner of a meat store at the public market, said his supply was sold out by noon.

According to Macario Angelia, a resident of Lianga, rival camps in his province were buying votes at P2,500 to P3,500 per voter.

He said more cash went around as Election Day was approaching, with some candidates handing out an extra P500, also called “tili-tili,” or “drizzle,” to each voter.

One candidate in this town gave out P1,200 in four batches, which voters jokingly called doses, the first two being primary and the last two being booster doses.

Another candidate gave out P1,000 each to voters.

In Zamboanga del Sur, voters were offered P3,000 to P5,000 in exchange for voting an entire local slate from governor to municipal or city councilors.

The distribution started on Saturday, two days before Election Day.

Many put up with about five hours of waiting in line for their “ulan-ulan” from one camp, then they would queue in another political camp the next day.

But police in the provincial capital of Pagadian City thwarted a vote-buying operation on Election Day itself, seizing P50,000 in cash in a raid at the Pavilion Building of the provincial government in Barangay Dao.

According to their report, the 50 P1,000 bills confiscated by the police came with sample ballots of reelectionist Gov. Victor Yu and his local slate. But nobody was arrested in the raid as the people inside the building fled when the police arrived.

On the eve of Election Day, police in Dumingag town, also in Zamboanga del Sur, raided a health center in Barangay Dulop, arrested two women and confiscated bundles of envelopes which contained cash amounting to P1.93 million.

Maj. Mark Gerome Nebria, Dumingag police chief, said each envelope had P2,500 in cash. Also seized from the suspects were a list of voters with their precinct numbers.

Mobile phones as well as meat supplies have been sold out because the public, with a hefty infusion of cash from vote buying politicians, has gone on a frenzied shopping spree. The police arrested two women and confiscated envelopes of cash amounting to P1.93 million! That's a lot of phones and meat. This is all part of the tried and true tradition of vote buying. Everybody knows this happens. Even the Vice President Leni Robredo acknowledges it happens. She said take the money!

https://www.cnnphilippines.com/news/2021/10/26/Robredo-on-vote-buying-2022-elections.html

Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday gave a piece of advice for Filipinos who may encounter vote buying ahead of the 2022 polls.

Asked about the issue during a forum hosted by Kasambahay for Leni, Robredo said voters can opt to take the money — but reminded them to still pick candidates based on their conscience.

"Alam mo, mali siya. Mali iyong pagbibili ng boto," Robredo stressed. "Pero iyong sinasabi ko sa tao, tanggapin niyo. Tanggapin niyo kasi galing din naman iyan sa atin. Iyong pinambibili ng boto, pera din iyan ng taumbayan...tatanggapin mo pero ang iboboto mo kung sino iyong nasa konsensya mo."

[Translation: You know, it's wrong. Vote buying is wrong. But what I tell people is, accept it. I tell them to accept it because that's public money. Accept it, but still vote for the candidate based on your conscience.]

Go on take the money and run, hoo hoo hoo! How about don't do that?? It's more than a great big hassle. It encourages these thieves and it stains your conscience. A mobile phone is not worth the price of your soul. Now the COMELEC has piped in and said the increase in mobile phone sales is NOT related to vote buying.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1174493

The surge in mobile phone sales in Surigao del Sur cannot be automatically attributed to vote-buying, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Sunday.

Acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said reports that popular mobile phone brands were sold out in three shopping malls in the towns of Tagbina, Barobo, and Lianga should not be linked to poll-related violations.

“Coming not from the Comelec but coming from siguro(perhaps) a lawyer’s point of view, the escalation of the purchases in itself does not automatically mean anomalies or crimes,” he said in a press briefing.

Escalation of purchases cannot even be considered a crime.

“In fact, hindi nga po krimen eh (It’s not a crime). Kung ganyan po kasi na mayroong pagbabawal sa escalation ng (of) purchases, dapat naging krimen (If there are prohibition on the escalation of purchases, then it should be a crime) but it’s not a crime,” he added.

It could be that the escalation of purchases is not related to vote buying but this argument is terrible! Escalation of purchases is not a crime? No kidding! It's not a mere escalation in purchases that is the issue. It's the sustained buying frenzy right after the elections amidst accusations of vote buying. The COMELEC does not get it. Not only are expensive phones being sold out but so is meat! Why is that happening? How have the people suddenly become so wealthy? Is it merely a coincidence that the election has concluded and sales are up, especially considering the history this nation has with vote buying? How can anyone be expected to "respect the results" of any election when they are tainted with more than the whiff of corruption?
