How Can We Read? Village Councilor Terrorises Barangay

From a lack of classrooms and a lack of supplies Filipino students face daunting challenges when it comes to learning. But for one girl there are even worse stumbling blocks than a lack of resources.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2204772/11-year-old-asks-marcos-how-can-we-read-if-we-are-being-raped

“Mr. President, how will we read if we are being raped?”

This was the question posed by an 11-year-old student to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as she sought protection and redress from sexual and other forms of injustices allegedly perpetrated by a barangay kagawad (village councilor) and his sons in Tinambac, Camarines Sur.

The student, a beneficiary of the nonprofit organization Redeemer Homeless Mission, which provides education and other assistance to homeless children, “walked out” of her graduation ceremony on Monday to submit a petition to the vice mayor of Tinambac calling for the removal of the local official.

“In the last year you [Marcos] have been at the forefront of EDCOM1 (The First Congressional Commission on Education) encouraging kids like me to read. May I share with you my experience from the mission field, on the ground with the poor people?” she said in a letter addressed to Marcos, dated and posted online on March 30.

“Kids like me love to read, and we would do it every day if given the opportunity. One of my sisters [redacted] loves to read but on her way home from school on November 17, 2022 and on February 14, 2023 she was raped, twice, by a son of a Kagawad in our town,” she said.

The identities of both the letter sender and the alleged victim were withheld due to the sensitivity of the matter.

She recounted how the alleged victim “got pregnant from the first rape” and that the village councilor “kidnapped” and brought her to Montalban to have an abortion.

“Then the tauhan [staff] they sent with [the victim] raped her again and she now no longer goes to school. This Kagawad has another son too that raped a girl in 2018,” the letter read.

It was not only the victim who experienced mistreatment by the unnamed local official.

The student also detailed broader abuses by the official, including threatening families, cutting and stealing electrical wires leaving households without electricity, and damaging the wires to wells, leaving families without water.

“I have seen him set grass fires to kill us, put nails in our tires, destroy our coconut plants, and steal our tanim [crop]. Many of the families here stay in survival mode because government people make life very very difficult,” she said.

She asked Marcos: “Mr. President how will we read if we are being raped? How will we read if our own government people cut our electrical wire so we have no lights? How will we read if our kagawad cut our balon wires and so we have no water?”

“We are kids, we are not involved in your political parties, I just want to go to school without being raped. So, can you please help us?”

The letter quickly gained traction on social media, garnering more than 5,000 shares.

The President himself took notice of the letter and responded.

“My dear [letter sender], Your letter has reached me and brought me close to tears and made me very angry. I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you. I will make sure that you will be able to continue reading and studying as much as you want. You are a very brave, intelligent and very kind girl and I will make sure to help you and your sisters in any way you need,” Marcos said in the comment section.

He also said, “If there is anything else that you need, just get in touch with us and we will help.”

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority reveal that pregnancies among girls under 15 often involve older men and are likely the result of statutory rape.

In response, the non-government organization Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development renewed its call for the passage of the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill, which seeks to strengthen prevention, child protection, and comprehensive adolescent sexuality education on consent and safety.

There is a picture of the letter this girl sent to Marcos which goes into further detail.

Kids like me love to read, and we would do it every day if given the opportunity. One of my sisters loves to read but on her way home from school on November 17, 2022 and on February 14, 2023 she was raped, twice, by a son of a Kagawad in our town. She got pregnant from the first rape and the Kagawad kidnapped her, sent her to Montalban and had the baby aborted and murdered. Then the tauhan they sent with raped her again and she now no longer goes to school. This Kagawad has another son too that raped a girl in 2018. As a child I have watched this Kagawad threaten us, cut and steal our electrical wires so we have no electricity, and cut and steal the wires to our baton so we have no water. I have seen him set grass fires to kill us, put nails in our tires, destroy our coconut plants, and steal our tanim. Many of the families here stay in survival mode because government people make life very very difficult.

Question Mr. President how will we read if we are being raped? How will we read if our own government people cut our electrical wire so we have no lights? How will we read if our kagawad cut our baton wires and so we have no water? We are kids, we are not involved in your political parties, I just want to go to school without being raped. So, can you please help us?

This is beyond disturbing. A whole community has been held hostage by a village councilor and his sons. Marcos says "I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you" but what assurance is that? Are we really to believe that the local PNP is unaware of the activities of these men? That this title girl had to write to the President is quite telling.

The girl say she lives in Barangay Caloco, Tinambac so it should be easy to find this man and his sons. Hopefully the councilor and his sons are apprehended and prosecuted. However, in the Philippines in many cases it is up to the victim to prosecute the perpetrator. What a travesty of justice it would be if it were up to this 11-year old girl to file charges against these criminals.

Insurgency: Abandon Insurgency This Lent

The 57th anniversary of the founding of the NPA has come and gone. One celebration in Occidental Mindoro was interrupted by the blazing guns of the AFP.

https://mb.com.ph/2026/03/30/soldier-killed-rebel-captured-as-troops-disrupt-npa-anniversary-in-occidental-mindoro

A pursuit operation against the New People’s Army (NPA) on the group's 57th founding anniversary turned deadly on Sunday, March 29, resulting in the death of a young Philippine Army (PA) officer and the capture of an insurgent in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

The encounter occurred at Sitio Salafay in Barangay Monteclaro as troops from the 68th Infantry “Kaagapay” Battalion tracked approximately 15 armed rebels, said Col. Michael Aquino, spokesperson of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID).

The firefight lasted 20 minutes before the rebels retreated, but an Army trooper, identified as Captain Dean Buen Oyando, was killed in action while leading his men during the pursuit.

Two other soldiers were wounded in the engagement, including an injured personnel who had to be evacuated to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center in Quezon City for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, a female NPA combatant with an M16 rifle was captured by the troops after she was allegedly abandoned by her comrades. Soldiers also recovered a hand grenade and components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the encounter site.

“1st Lieutenant Dean Oyando embodied the courage and dedication of the Filipino soldier. His ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace strengthens our resolve to continue the mission he bravely carried out—to protect our communities and secure lasting peace in our area of responsibility,” Aquino said.

The Sunday clash, which coincided with the anniversary of the NPA, founded on March 29, 1969, was not an isolated incident in the area as the same military unit engaged the same rebel group in Barangay Monteclaro on March 24.

That previous encounter led to the recovery of a firearm and the discovery of bloodstains, which indicated casualties among the fleeing rebels.

“This is a main disruption to their plans as they have been pummeled on their anniversary celebration. We are seeing that their ability to operate is being steadily reduced, they continue to lose ground as our operations intensify,” Aquino said.

The 2ID said that the focus remains on preventing the insurgents from regrouping in the province, hence the has intensified its footprint in Mindoro to dismantle remaining guerrilla fronts.

“Our continuous operations have undeniably disrupted the armed group’s movements and significantly diminished their capabilities. The terrorist NPA cannot hide from the long arms of the government as we build on the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen comrade and continue to apply the full force of the command to prevent them from regrouping,” Aquino added.

The military urged local residents to remain vigilant as pursuit operations continue in the mountainous areas of San Jose.

“We encourage the public to stay alert and to coordinate with local authorities in reporting any information that may help in our operations,” Aquino said.

Wow! The AFP fought 15 rebels, captured one, and lost one man in combat. That means 14 heavily armed and dangerous rebels were able to escape. Perhaps the captured rebel will lead the AFP to their lair.

AFP Chief Brawner says the sacrifice made by Captain Dean Buen Oyando will amount to nothing if there is no nation-building.

https://mb.com.ph/2026/03/30/afp-chief-soldiers-sacrifice-is-meaningless-without-nation-building

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) must look beyond traditional combat to ensure their sacrifices lead to a future where Filipinos live with dignity.

AFP Chief of Staff, General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. issued this challenge to military and civilian personnel during the flag-raising ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Monday, March 30, as the country observes the Holy Week.

“This Holy Week, we are reminded that sacrifice has meaning only when it leads to something greater,” Brawner said.

The military chief noted that the observance of Holy Week offers a moment for solemn reflection.

He emphasized that it is also a time for reaffirming the AFP’s mission beyond security operations as the military continues its shift from internal security to external defense, while simultaneously maintaining a presence in disaster response and community development across the archipelago.

“We are called not only to confront threats but also to protect the peace that allows our people to live, work, and hope for a better future,” Brawner stated.

The AFP chief highlighted how the Lenten theme of sacrifice mirrors the soldier's oath, asserting that such devotion is meaningful only when it serves the higher purpose of safeguarding the nation's well-being and its people.

Under Brawner's leadership, the AFP has increasingly focused on “unity” as a pillar for professionalizing the ranks and strengthening territorial integrity.

The general reminded the troops that their duty extends to the very foundations of the country’s society, urging them to reflect on the deeper meaning of service and sacrifice.

“Because in the end, the mission is not only to defeat threats—it is to build a nation where every Filipino can live in peace, with dignity, and with a future they can believe in,” Brawner said.

What the heck? The CPP-NPA has repeatedly said they do not want unity. They do not want to surrender.  There is also no peace deal without the CASER agreement which the Philippine government will in no way implement. Instead it's a war of attrition getting singular rebels and their supporters to surrender or die in combat. Notbaly there are more supporters than actual NPA rebels as attested to by neutralization accounts and the estimated total number of reaming NPA rebels.

Chief Brawner ties the battle with the religious imagery of Holy Week which might affect the troops but communism is atheistic. Nevertheless the Army is urging the NPA to reflect on Lent and fast from rebellion.

https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1272086

The Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division (8ID) has called on remaining members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) to reflect during Holy Week and consider abandoning their armed struggle in favor of peace.

In a statement on Monday, the 8ID stated that the path of armed conflict leads to isolation and loss, while choosing peace creates opportunities for reconciliation, stability and a more meaningful future.

“We defend our communities from threats of violence so that peace and development may prevail,” the 8ID said, stressing that this principle continues to guide its efforts to protect the people and secure communities.

As the country observes Holy Week, the Army in Eastern Visayas said it stands in solidarity with peace-loving Filipinos in promoting a society anchored on justice, compassion and lasting peace.

The 8ID reiterated its condemnation of alleged atrocities committed by the NPA, including extortion, intimidation, recruitment of minors and violence that have affected communities for decades.

“Far from liberating the people, their so-called struggle has brought destruction, fear, and disruption to livelihoods in many barangays,” the statement read.

The 8ID emphasized that armed struggle is “futile and self-defeating,” pointing to ongoing military operations and nationwide efforts that have diminished communist terrorist group forces and their influence in Eastern Visayas.

It added that these developments reflect not only operational gains but also the growing rejection of violence by communities.

The 8ID also highlighted the transformation of former rebels who have returned to the fold of the law through government reintegration programs.

No doubt this plea will fall on deaf ears.

Two alleged rebels masquerading as activists were arrested by the police and military.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2206027/2-activists-tagged-as-communist-rebels-arrested-in-iloilo-town

Two elderly women activists, one tagged by authorities as a communist rebel, were arrested in a joint police and military operation in Barangay Aganan of Pavia town, Iloilo on Maundy Thursday, April 2.

A press release by the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) identified the suspected rebel only as “Dhaday” or “Gie,” 64, allegedly a member of the Panay regional committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

She was arrested by virtue of a warrant for rebellion issued on June 28, 2012, by the Regional Trial Court Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz, with a recommended bail of P40,000.

An associate, whom the police only identified as “Luing,” was arrested for obstruction of justice after allegedly interfering with the police operation in a house in Aganan.

Police added that “Dhaday” was also found in possession of materials used for making improvised explosive devices, which constitutes a violation of Republic Act No. 9516, or the law penalizing illegal possession of explosives.

An hour before the police issued a press release, Panay Alliance Karapatan confirmed the arrests and identified the arrested personalities as Josephine Porquia, 64, and Ma. Luisa Guillen, 62.

Porquia is the wife of Jose Reynaldo “Jory” Porquia, a former coordinator for the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) in Panay Island, who was slain in 2020 in the midst of aid work during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Guillen, a member of progressive group Gabriela, is the mother of lawyer Angelo Karlo Guillen, who was attacked by unidentified persons in 2021 while serving as counsel to Tumandok detainees from Iloilo and Capiz.

The attack on the younger Guillen was the match that lit the escalated calls for protection of lawyers and judges across the country that year.

Panay Alliance Karapatan quickly condemned the arrests, noting the timing during Maundy Thursday and the continued targeting of human rights and development workers across the Western Visayas region and the rest of the country.

“Their arrest during the solemn observance of Lent reflects the continuing injustice faced by those who stand with the poor and oppressed. Like the biblical betrayal and injustice symbolized by Judas and Barabbas, these actions expose the moral bankruptcy of a system that persecutes those who serve the people,” the group said.

“These arrests are not isolated incidents but form part of a broader pattern of arbitrary arrests against human rights and development workers, in which trumped-up charges, irregular police operations, and violations of due process are repeatedly used to legitimize unlawful detention and suppress legitimate dissent and community work,” they added.

The operation was carried out by the Pavia Municipal Police Station tracker team with support from the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, the 62nd Special Action Company of the PNP Special Action Force, the Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade, and the Passi City Police Station.

As of this writing, the two are currently under the custody of the Pavia Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.

Note how Panay Alliance Karapatan has turned on its head the Army's use of Lent as a time to reflect and surrender. The alliance says they stand with the poor  and oppressed while the government is a Judas betraying the people's trust. It's not clear why they brought up Barabbas as he was not a traitor but a murderer who Pilate set free in place of Christ.

The men looted the house before fleeing, dragging with them the victim whose identity was withheld by authorities for security reasons.

The incident was reported to the Bacoor police at around 8 p.m. by J.R. Caguiat, a relative of the family.

Caguiat told probers that he received a call from his mother-in-law informing him that his sister, who is the wife of the kidnap victim, had called asking for his help.

Investigation showed the kidnappers were wearing masks and long-sleeved shirts, and carrying long firearms.

Police said the kidnappers arrived at the victim’s house located along Macopa Road at around 7:30 p.m.

The fifth was nabbed in Nueva Ecija.

Claravall credited intelligence-driven operations, including backtracking and closed-circuit television camera analysis, for their arrest in less than 48 hours after the crime.

The severely burned bodies of the victims – rescuer Michael Odchigue and businesswoman Regine Espinosa – were discovered at about 10:40 a.m. inside a torched Toyota Wigo.

The suspects were taken to Peñaranda Municipal Police Station for documentation and custodial procedures. Inquest proceedings for murder have been conducted before the Prosecutor’s Office.

Police are determining if a debt owed by one of the suspects to the Espinosa and an apartment deal gone wrong are the motives of the crime.

The God Culture: What is Repentance and Obedience?

Timothy Jay Schwab who is The God Culture continues his Foundations series by asking "What is Repentance?" Surely everyone knows what that is, right? It's a turning FROM our sins and TO Jesus Christ. If you have been following this series, you know that Timothy Jay Schwab has already redefined faith as works, covenant as renewed Torah, and righteousness as law-keeping. It should come as no surprise, then, that his definitions of repentance and obedience follow the same pattern: Christ is absent, and the law is all.

Facebook

FOUNDATIONS - WEEK 11
What Is Repentance?
Repentance is one of the most important words in Scripture, yet it is often misunderstood.
Many think repentance simply means feeling sorry for sin.
But the Bible describes something deeper.
Repentance means turning back to the ways of Yah.
It is not just emotion.
It is a change of heart that produces a change of direction.
📖
Deuteronomy 30
Moses spoke of repentance long before the prophets and apostles.
“When thou shalt return unto YAHUAH thy Elohim, and shalt obey his voice…”
Repentance is described as returning.
Returning to the Creator.
Returning to His voice.
Returning to His commandments.
📖
Ezekiel 18
Through the prophet Ezekiel, Yah calls His people:
“Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions…”
Repentance is not simply acknowledging sin.
It is turning away from it and choosing life.
📖
Joel 2
The prophets also remind us that repentance begins in the heart.
“Turn ye even to me with all your heart…”
True repentance is not outward ritual.
It is a heart that turns back to Yah.
📖
Matthew 3
John the Baptist began his ministry with a simple message:
“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Before Messiah’s ministry even began, the call was clear:
Prepare the heart.
Turn back to Yah.
That is the entire theme of the Old and New Testaments in a transition that never changes such.
📖
Acts 3
After the resurrection and ascension of Messiah, the apostles preached the same message.
“Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…”
The call to repentance did not disappear in the New Testament.
It remained the first step toward restoration.
🌿
The Foundation
Biblical repentance means:
• Turning away from sin
• Returning to the ways of Yah
• Renewing the heart
• Walking in obedience
Repentance is not about condemnation.
It is about restoration.
📖
This Week’s Reading
Take time this week to read:
• Deuteronomy 30
• Ezekiel 18
• Joel 2
• Matthew 3
• Acts 3
Let Scripture define repentance.
🌿
Foundations Series – Week 11
Because restoration always begins
with returning to the foundation.
Yah Bless.

According to Tim "Repentance means turning back to the ways of Yah."  As has been seen in all the other definitions Tim has covered, that means keeping the law. It is interesting Tim says "It is a change of heart that produces a change of direction." Who effects that change of heart? Tim does not say but presumably that power lies in the free will of man who is naturally dead in his sins and apart from the power of Jesus Christ.

Repentance is directly tied to obedience so it will be necessary to see what Tim has to say about that.

Facebook

In Scripture, obedience is not legalism, control, or ritual performance.
Biblical obedience is love expressed through action.
From the beginning, Yahuah defined obedience as a response of the heart, not mere outward conformity.
Deuteronomy 6:4–5 (KJV)
Hear, O Israel: Yahuah our Elohim is one Yahuah:
And thou shalt love Yahuah thy Elohim with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Obedience begins with listening. The Hebrew idea of shema means to hear, understand, and act. To hear Yahuah is to obey Him.
Moses made this unmistakably clear:
Deuteronomy 30:15–16 (KJV)
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
In that I command thee this day to love Yahuah thy Elohim, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments…
Obedience is a choice that leads to life.
The prophets reinforced this truth when obedience was replaced with ritual:
1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV)
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
Yahuah never desired outward worship without inward submission. Obedience has always mattered more than ceremony.
Yahusha taught the same without alteration:
John 14:15 (KJV)
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Obedience is not the enemy of faith.
Obedience is the fruit of faith.
The Biblical Conclusion
Obedience is not about earning favor.
Obedience is not about tradition or control.
Obedience is not optional.
Obedience is love in action.
It is how covenant faith is lived, preserved, and revealed.
Where obedience is absent, covenant is broken.
Where obedience is present, life follows.

This is Biblical obedience.

Again, Tim has tied obedience to the law. He writes "obedience is not legalism" but that is a distinction without a difference. If obedience means keeping the Torah and if that obedience is presented as the condition of covenant standing ("where obedience is absent, covenant is broken"), then it is functionally legalism regardless of the disclaimer. The Apostle Paul called this exact teaching a return to "bondage" (Galatians 4:24) and warned that if righteousness comes by the law, "Christ is dead in vain" (Galatians 2:21).

Notably, Tim does not say we are to be obedient to the law yet that is the implication of it especially based on his previous definitions of faithrighteousnessholiness, and covenant which were all Torah directed.

This is a Christless repentance and obedience. The Bible repeatedly says we are to obey the Gospel.

Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Notice what these verses do not say. They do not say obedience to the Gospel means keeping the Sabbath, dietary laws, or feasts. They say obedience means believing the gospel, receiving the message of Christ's death and resurrection. Paul can even speak of "the obedience of faith", collapsing the distinction Tim tries to maintain. Faith is obedience and obedience is faith when the object is Christ.

Obedience to the Gospel means repentance from dead works to trust in the living God.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Tim says repentance is a a return to those very same dead works, i.e. keeping the Torah. That is the exact opposite of Biblical repentance. Tim's very foundation is dead and rotten being stripped bare of Christ.

The transformation of the heart which enables one to obey the Gospel by repenting and having faith toward God is done not by ourselves but by God Himself.
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
It is simply amazing that this man pretends he is preaching a restored Gospel. All of his doctrine is devoid of the Gospel. For Tim the ultimate foundation of not Christ but keeping the law. He has no need for Jesus Christ whatsoever in his religious system. As Tim has said before, the law is what redeems us and faith in Christ is not enough.
So this is another example that we aren't to just have faith in Yahusha. That’s not enough. That’s not it.  No, no, no, no. We are to keep His commandments.
Sabbath Series: Part 5: The End Times Sabbath at 19:30
The law written by the very finger of Yahuah Himself.  The law is what redeems us.
If the law redeems, then Christ is reduced to a teacher or example, not the Savior. Paul's warning applies directly: "If righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain" (Galatians 2:21). Timothy Jay Schwab who is The God Culture has built a system in which Jesus Christ is dead in vain.
