A woman died and four other people were injured when a fire engulfed a residential area in Muntinlupa on Jan. 30.

In a report, the Muntinlupa City Fire Station said the fire started about about 10:20 a.m. from a house in Marquez Compound, Putatan Itaas, Summitville in Barangay Putatan, located at the back of F. De Mesa Elementary School. The fire quickly spread to adjacent houses.

Firefighters raised the first alarm at 10:26 a.m. followed by a second alarm at 10:39 a.m. before it was put out at 11:09 a.m.

A 75-year-old woman, who was a person with disability, died in the fire. Four other people were injured.

The fire station said 15 houses were razed by the fire, affecting 15 families or about 45 individuals. The blaze destroyed properties worth P750,000.

Investigators are determining the origin and cause of the fire.

A total of 23 fire trucks, four ambulances and two rescue vehicles responded to the incident.

That is 33 reported incidents for January. Remember, these are only the major fires reported in the national media. Residential fires are up all across the nation and they do not all make the news. This is the tip of the iceberg concerning the real situation in the Philippines.
