Assassinated Citizens July, 2025

Assassination is normal in the Philippines not only for government officials but also for regular citizens. The most common method of assassination for both citizens and officials is a motorcycle duo riding up on the target and then blasting them away.  This series will document the number of citizens assassinated on a monthly basis. These stories are to be distinguished from regular murder cases which happen on a daily basis.

A 44-year-old woman was killed in a shooting incident inside a subdivision in Barangay 169, Caloocan City, according to a report on GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita on Tuesday.

The victim aboard a vehicle was already close to her home when the gunman riding a motorcycle shot her multiple times.

Recovered from the crime scene were six bullet casings 

Authorities are still determining the motive behind the fatal shooting.

A 35-year-old oil depot assistant terminal administrator was shot dead in Sitio Central, Barangay Castañas, this town, on Wednesday night, July 2.
Police identified the victim as Ronel, married.
Investigation said the victim was driving his motorcycle when a man onboard a motorcycle appeared and shot him.
Ronel died on the spot.
The suspect wearing a helmet and black jacket fled towards the boundary of Candelaria, Quezon and San Juan, Batangas.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.

A woman was found dead along the streets of Barangay 105 in Tondo, Manila, with a bullet wound in the face late Monday night, July 7, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported. 
According to the MPD Homicide Section, the victim was already lifeless when officers arrived at the scene. Her identity has not yet been confirmed as of press time. 
Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators noted the lack of surveillance cameras in the area, making it difficult to immediately identify the suspects. 
Police are appealing to residents who may have witnessed the shooting or have any information that could help in the investigation to come forward. 
The case remains under investigation.

A man was killed while two of his friends were left injured after two motorcycle-riding men fired upon them in Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati City on early Thursday morning, July 10.
According to the Makati City Police, the 25-year-old fatality was invited by his buddies for a drinking session when the suspects suddenly approached them and shot at the group. The victim was hit in the head, instantly killing him.
One of his friends was also hit on both of his thighs, while the other sustained a gunshot wound in his arm. Both of them are now in stable condition.
Witnesses said the suspects fled towards the northbound direction after their assault. 
The police said the fatality possibly knows the identities of the shooters. 
Further investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Two men were gunned down in Sitio Padungsul, Barangay Naddungan, this town, on Wednesday, July 23.

Police identified the victims as Kiko and John, residents of Barangay La Purisima, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija.
Investigation said the victims were onboard a car when three men appeared and shot them.
Police identified one of the suspects as Harry from Buguey, Cagayan.
The suspects took the victims’ vehicle and escaped.
Police are conducting follow-up and manhunt operations.

Authorities are pursuing armed assailants who killed the younger brother of Mayor Duma Mascud of Kadayangan town, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Special Geographic Area (SGA), on Thursday morning.
Police Lt. Col. Benhur Catcatan, Midsayap municipal police chief, said the victim, 55-year-old Dhen Mascud, was driving a private minivan when motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on him while he was on the national highway in Barangay Agriculture at 7 a.m.
“His wife, Anisa, sustained bullet injuries and is now undergoing medication in a hospital in Midsayap,” Catcatan said in an interview.
Police have yet to identify the perpetrators or the motive behind the attack.
Kadayangan is one of eight BARMM municipalities in the North Cotabato SGA which was formed through a 2019 plebiscite. The SGA was created by carving out 63 barangays from the municipalities of Carmen, Kabacan, Pikit, Aleosan, Midsayap, and Pigcawayan.

A popular vlogger from Sulu province was shot and killed outside a coffee shop in Patikul, Sulu on Friday night, July 25.

Police identified the fatality as Mohammad Riza Adela Muksan, also known as Doofz Muksan, 37, and a staff of the Municipal Social Services Development (MSSD) in Jolo municipality, Sulu.
Patikul police station chief Police Major Kier John Leaño said the victim was shot while riding his motorcycle outside the Shara Coffee Shop in Barangay Umangay.
Photos and videos from the crime scene showed Muksan’s body beside a motorcycle leaning on its side.
Doofz was known for helping residents in Sulu.
In a pinned post, however, Muksan wrote: “Maraming ayaw sakin kaibigan man o kaaway, kadugo o katropa kasi PRANGKA ako. Pag ayaw ko, ayaw ko!!! Ako lang ‘to.”
Muksan’s murder triggered an outpouring of grief from his followers and cries for authorities to immediately bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.

A 23-year-old woman was shot to death by an unidentified gunman while inside her apartment in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo, Rizal on Sunday night, July 27.
The Antipolo Component City Police Station (CCPS) immediately responded after receiving a call around 10:20 p.m. from Barangay Cupang regarding a shooting incident. 
Based on initial investigation, the victim, "Ericka," was allegedly sitting inside her apartment and chatting with two friends when a man suddenly kicked the door open and shot her without saying a word.
Authorities found the victim already lifeless with gunshot wounds. They did not specify where the victim was hit.
Police probers have requested the assistance of the Rizal Provincial Forensic Unit for technical crime scene investigation.
They are also looking for CCTV footage, which may lead to the identification and immediate arrest of the suspect.

A man survived an attempted shooting in Dasmariñas City after the suspect’s gun malfunctioned early morning on Wednesday, July 30. 
A report from the Police Regional Office 4A said the victim was having coffee just outside his house when the suspect, identified as alias Edison, approached him with a gun and pulled the trigger. 
Fortunately, the gun failed, sparing the life of the victim. 
Following the foiled shooting, the victim reportedly tried to subdue the suspect, and the scuffle led to both parties sustaining head injuries. 
Arresting officers from the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station collared the suspect as he was receiving medical treatment at Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas. 
The victim, meanwhile, recovered the suspect’s gun and surrendered it to the police. 
Authorities are now investigating the case, and the suspect is facing charges for attempted murder and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
